I love how upset the Trump supporters in the comments are
they are just shocked and appalled by this disrespectful act
I love that someone like professionally took video of a criminal act (I might agree with it, but it is outright vandalism/destruction of property) posted it to the internet so everyone in the world could see their crime and no one gives a fuck. Fuck yeah dystopian cyber punk futures. Also that not one person there even thought to call the cops or report anything despite on video claiming to have witnessed it happening, because everyone in attendance just thought it was awesome. Also that chick was right, I did see the mute symbol on Trump's star a few days ago in my Facebook feed so that's fun.

of course nobody called the cops
why would anybody have called the cops
Witnessing a crime in progress (destruction of property). Like if I saw someone doing something like this to the monument right outside my apartment I'd probably call the cops or at least report it and give a description of the vandal. Like I wouldn't 911 it, but I'd least call their business line. Then again I really like the monument outside my apartment so really it's just apples and oranges to this event here.

Oh no, an act of incredibly benign graffiti that doubles as a political statement, performed in literally five seconds by a nearly impossible to identify person on a busy walkway who didn't stick around after dropping the tag. Yeah, I'm sure the cops will be all over that one.

Like I said apples and oranges to if someone were defacing the monument outside my apartment. Defacing it wouldn't be benign. Firstly it's a monument a bunch of folks the town killed 300+ years ago. Secondly it's the centerpiece of every tour through this city. It is a major part of providing some people's livelihood here as tour guides. Messing it up wouldn't be benign, and any political statement it would be trying to make would likely be disgusting.
That's what I liked here, that no one gave any fucks about Donald's star. Most of them were standing there appreciating then new art that had just been introduced to the region. Which is awesome.
what we're denying is the idea that anyone anywhere would give enough of a shit to actually press three buttons to report it unless their name rhymes with Sodald Bar Dump

Reporting a graffiti artist to the police because it's a crime is like reporting someone for littering
They'll never catch the guy, the most he'd get is a misdemeanor or a fine or something, and all you'd be doing is inconveniencing everyone involved, including the cops

If you called 911 to report a guy making a graffiti mute button on Trumps star, they'd probably chew you out for taking up important time on a busy hotline.

And rightly so, there is an actual police line for non emergency issues.
No idea what it is, and i suspect almost nobody else does either, but one exists, i think.

It does, and it's definitely the one I'd call (dad was a cop I know the types of things to call into the business line). You know if the graffiti was on something I cared about, but Trump's star isn't one of those things.
I once tried to call the non emergency line where I live for like 10 minutes because of a guy doing doughnuts in the parking lot next to my house in and around other cars. I never managed to get through so eventually called 911.
5 seconds later he crashed into a railroad bridge. At least I didn't have to feel bad about calling 911 after that.

Hello, 911? I'd like to report a crime
911: What's your emergency?
Me: Someone just spray-painted a mute icon over Donald Trump's star on Hollywood Blvd.
911: Oh shit, really? That's awesome, hold on *muffled* Hey Jay, guess what this dude just told me? No come here you'll never believe me, let him tell you.

This would be the ideal outcome.
I hope we get a musical number.

Exactly.

I've actually been thinking about this lately
in my life I have never seen graffiti done to property that didn't have some semblance of public ownership about it
businesses, bits of infrastructure, mailboxes, stuff like that
never a car or house that wasn't clearly abandoned/condemmed
people are weirdly respectful of that sort of thing, it seems like
Not in Minneapolis. They tag all the homes they can.
huh
that's weird
well, different. maybe you just have a nicer city
I do right now but I didn't used to

what about train cars
whenever I see a train go by, the cars are always covered in graffiti
the bane of imprisoned Johnny Cash
that's something else that seems like people think of it being on the edge of public and private property
like the wall of a convenience store
A cop being the guy who filmed that video is more likely than an LAPD officer showing up to "investigate"
An LAPD officer tagging that star is more likely than an LAPD officer who was walking by the tagger going, "Hey, man, stop"
With that punctuation, mind
It was the best use of spraypaint I'd ever seen. Brightened my whole fuckin' day, Ricky! did.
