No big surprises this week. Infinite Warfare is trying to eat Battlefield's lunch by launching the Beta when Battlefield 1 comes out which is something, I guess but I imagine fans can balance the two. Lego Harry Potter Collection, The Jackbox Party Pack 3 and Batman: Return to Arkham join them on PS4. Superdimension Neptune Vs. Sega Hard Girls comes out for Vita with Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky coming out on both.

How do the stores work?
Each region basically has their own, separate store. SCEA run the American stores, SCEE run the European, Middle Eastern, Indian, African and Oceanian (all of which are usually shortened to PAL) stores and SCEJA run the Japanese, Hong Kong and other East Asian stores. It's honestly a bit of a mess, as some games get released in one region and then take months to come to other regions. The good news is that you can create multiple accounts located in different regions, buy PSN cards online and then buy whichever games you want from the foreign stores.
When does the store usually update?
Tuesday in North America and PAL countries. When exactly the updates occur depends and there are also games that are added early or late, which is usually noted in the PS Blog updates. Japanese updates, on the other hand, occur throughout the week.
Do digital pre-orders offer pre-loads?
Often yes but the times vary depending on region. North American pre-loads are usually offered approx. two days before release and unlock at midnight EST. PAL pre-loads, on the other hand, are usually offered on the NZ midnight release. This means that Europeans get 10-13 hours to preload their games (depending on time zone and DST), while Australians get 2-4 hours (depending on which coast you live on) and New Zealanders get 0 hours. It's pretty fucking dumb, yeah.
Are sales common?
The NA stores get a new sale every week and often get weekend-only flash sales. The PAL stores get a new sale every two weeks but often get new sales or additions in off weeks.
What's PS+?
Sony's online subscription service. On PS4 you need it to play games online (excluding F2P and MMOs). On top of that, it offers cloud storage space on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita (1GB, 10GB and 1GB respectively), exclusive betas/demos and the Instant Game Collection.
Instant Game Collection?
On the first Tuesday of every month, Sony updates the IGC with 6 new games, 2 for each system (though many are cross-buy). You can add these to your account and play them as much as you want, so long as you're subscribed to PS+. If your subscription expires, they are no longer playable but if you re-subscribe later on, they will be playable once more.
Backwards compatibility?
If you've got yourself a first or second generation PS3, your system is backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games. For every other PS3, they're only backwards compatible with PS1 games. And sadly, so far, the PS4 isn't backwards compatible with anything. Hopefully that changes in the future but who knows. You can, however, use the PS3's remote play to play PS1 games on a PSP or PS Vita.
What can I play PSone Classics on?
Most of the PSOne Classics are compatible with PS3, PSP and PS Vita but it does vary with some games. The good news is that they all support cross-buy, so any PS1 Classic you've bought for one system can be played on any of the other three systems, so long as they're compatible. You can also swap your saves between them. For a list of PS Vita compatible PSone Classics, check out the PS Vita thread.
What about PS2 Classics?
Currently, PS2 Classics will only run on the PS3. The only downside is that you can't use your old PS2 saves, they're saved to a separate location.
What's Cross-Buy?
Basically, 'buy one, get the other versions free' across PS3, PS4 and PS Vita. It works just as you would expect, you buy one version of the game and get the other versions for free. Just make sure you check beforehand because sometimes the PS3 version of a game may be the only version that's cross-buy (usually when the PS Vita version is cheaper) or the PS3 and PS Vita versions may be cross-buy but not the PS4 version (usually for a very late port).
Cross-Play?
It's what Sony has labelled cross-platform online play between the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita. PS3 players can play online with PS4 or PS Vita players and vice versa.
Cross-Save?
It means you can transfer your saves between different versions of a game.

No real surprises. Partial Squeenix sale this week. I'm not really sure what the One Way Cross Buy notice for Mighty No. 9 is about, since it's supposed to be Cross-Buy between all three versions. I know the Vita version isn't out yet and who knows when it will be out, but it's supposed to be connected with the other two when it does come out. Maybe, given the game's track record, you should hold off buying it in anticipation of the Vita version until it's out, though.

I don't really care that some person I don't know beat some score of mine 200 days ago, and I really don't need to have them scroll across my HUD every time I continue my game.
Edit: Also, getting the trophy for beating Shadow Complex with just 4% of the items was a fun exercise in abusing infinite foam. Completely enjoyed that experience.

The campaign on Regular is a difficulty "just set right".
I jumped into the campaign in Elite and it is murdering me, which means "adapt your tactics silly!".
I'm currently getting stomped in the Core, even my poor level 7 guys; a mistake is fatal!
And if the randomly generated room spawns with 5 enemies, well, you're going to have a bad time...
I also like the DLC guy, he's so much fun and I like his ninja-like running.

Finally got through to support. They said "Huh, weird, there's a 24 hour anti-fraud hold on your PSN account for some reason because you tried to add funds a bunch of times in a few minutes, no idea why it didn't go through the first time. But if you want to get your game today, you can always go to Amazon and buy a PSN funds code from them, that'll work!" :rotate:

Wish I'd gotten mine yesterday, as it would have meant getting Mega Man Legacy for virtually free, but that was probably deliberate.
Drakengard 3 for $0 is tempting, but that game has a really shitty framerate, doesn't it? Still kind of holding out hope Taro's works will hit PC.

did you contact your bank/credit card company to see if THEY put the hold on it? That happened to me once buying something from an overseas website. I had to call and explain that yes, i did want to let that foreign company take my money.

Sony have an automated, non-overrideable system in place to put creditcards on hold. They're very open about it, because they want to blame it for everything. "Sorry, the system! Impossible to change manually!"
It starts at 24 hours when there's a problem of some sort. Then 48 hours if you try again during that period, counting from the new attempt. Then up to fourteen days if you try during the new period, I believe. The two weeks can be refreshed if you keep trying, but two weeks is the longest single addition.

I'm only an hour in. The combat is fun, the characters so far are... Not great. The dialog so far is atrocious. Some of the main characters, especially Miki, are kind of bad. The small characters are almost offensively bad, like the mayor of the town you start in.
So ah... I really enjoy the gameplay so far, but the rest is not winning any awards.
You might as well have described the little I played of SO3 just now.
Seriously considering canceling my preorder...
