Yeah I'm still waiting on spoilers until I can catch it in theaters. Was expecting weird since the directors were announced so that's not gonna be a surprise.
I find it fascinating to use Godzilla as a metaphor for Japan's National emotional trauma. It makes me wonder how you could represent this with the United States, but I fear it would be exceptionally freaky.
Whether or not I would see either one is up in the air.
I'm assuming that this Godzilla is basically a nightmare creature reflecting all of Japan's recent woes.
mmmmyes, kind of
spoilers for shin
the movie actually doesn't spend too mcuh time with zilla themself, there's a lot of talking between people on positions of assumed power (because it's an anno movie)
the crux of the movie is: what does japan, a country that's basically only allowed to have a token self-defense force because of treaties following WW2, do in a situation requiring so much more than that? what lines do you cross?
tying in with this, this is definitely the most otherworldly zilla to date imo

Pretty sure that was what cloverfield was going for.
Or is going for? I never got around to watching the second one but I it sounds like its aiming for that sort of ground? The first one is pretty straightforwardly a metaphor for America's ultimate fears of what a terrorist attack means.

I feel like just making a hot take post about Shin Godzilla in here but I'm tired of making hot takes, clearly a lot of people think it looks good so me saying I disagree isn't going to add to anything.
What is the current most ethical and comprehensive source for people who want to go on a kaiju movie binge?
Hulu has 4 godzilla movies - vs. Gigan, vs. Megalon, vs. Sea Monster, and vs. Hedorah. Netflix I think has at least one or two but it's not loading for me right now. Crackle used to have a few of the newer ones but on examination seems to have none now.
the true correct answer is to get all the blu-rays
yes even the Mothra 1-3 one

I watched Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) on Crackle and it was interrupted every ten minutes by the same Blackberry ad. What a weird experience for a very weird movie.
I just got back from Star Trek. Boy was that bad. I actually liked the first two, but this was just disappointing and boring. I had to apologize to my friend for asking him to see it instead of the Bourne movie he suggested.
I am glad they are going full weird with Shin Godzilla even if it doesn't interest me at all
I've got American Godzilla now if I want good old fashioned monster smackdown action times, which is what I come to Godzilla for, and this let's folks who enjoy Godzilla for its social commentary and also people who like weird Eva bullshit have something to dig into
If you want non-scary David Lynch I recommend The Straight Story which is a beautiful and lovely movie from a bizzaro alternate universe where David Lynch makes G-rated Disney movies
Maybe Elephant Man is less on the scary side as well. I mean it is scary and nightmarish but it doesn't have any malevolent supernatural spirits from a sinister nether-realm or anything
I actually watched that whole RLM review posted a few pages back, just to see what they'd say. They basically covered everything I would have and said the same things I did...except they would then say they liked that. I'm so confused.

Ghostbusters was fun, put me down on the register under the "it's pretty good" heading.

Welp, I guess we fight to the death now, because hop boy do I not agree with this.

Just saw the Queen trailer for Suicide Squad. Looks like a fun movie teetering on the edge of disaster, and I'll probably catch it on DVD.
However, I now blame all my awkward teenage boners on the space-time ripples caused by my 15-year-old self and this trailer existing in the same timeline. Everything about this trailer is so solidly the jam of my 15-year-old self that I'm almost positive that a Time Cop fucked up and this trailer was supposed to end up underneath a box propped up by a stick in rural New Mexico circa 1999 so that I could be arrested for future crime.
If I jumped out of a time machine and yelled "15-year-old self! What is best in life?" he would say "Fight Club and comic books and cute girls making bad decisions at Hot Topic! Now what's that video you have there, and why is it everything I've ever wanted?"
Sorry, 15-year-old self. It was too beautiful for your world. At least you still only have the one Matrix movie.
According to a former contestant, they were filming for about 12 hours by the time that part started. Which would certainly explain why so many contestants seemed to progress so damn slowly in the temple.

I dunno, the big speech in Independence Day is how the 4th of July won't be an American holiday anymore because the entire world is gonna team up and work together.

I don't mean fascinating as a synonym for weird
It genuinely intrigues me, even if I'm not sure I'll ever actually see it

So far what I've read sounds far more straightforward and coherent than Evangelion

Anyway, I kind of enjoyed heavy metal 2000, and read the comics in my horny youth, would I enjoy the first movie?

FYI
Those kids weren't always as incompetent as they looked.
Additionally, those kids are way more tired than you'd expect by the time the final round began.
