i am guessing we will be looking at late october early november for tickets this year just cant wait another pax. I remember doing my 1st one and thinking may just be a one time thing now this will be my 4th one in a row and its one of the things I look foward to every year
Same here. March 1st is my birthday, so I tell my family that if they want to give me anything for Christmas or my b-day, just contribute to my PAX fund
After attending my very first PAX in Boston earlier this year, I was really looking forward to attending another. Now you guys are talking like early March is the time its happening. I really enjoyed getting outside and exploring the city. It sounds like exploring the city is not such a good idea in March. Hmm... I could always go to a Bruins hockey game. I hate the cold.
abdooooo, We're just saying that the weather in early March in Boston can vary widely. It could be sunny in the low 50's, cold and icy, or have 3+ inches of snow on the ground. It's very hard to plan for. Remember that if you're the type that wants to get in line early, you'll be standing in line 1+ hours outside as well, before they even let you in to the line queue. I've been in shorts and a tshirt in this line. I've been in 4 layers in this line. It's literally crazy sometimes.
I have been to every East except this year's, and the weather is generally fine for general tourism provided you bundle up. The only exception is last year, when blizzards turned the city into a winter maze with walls of snow stacked up on every curb.
It'd be nice if East was routinely in April, when the weather is prone to be more favorable, but I imagine competition for BCEC slots is fierce.
The forecast for this winter is generally much colder and not as snowy. Lots of NWerly winds bringing down cold air from Canuckistan, but not as much moisture to deal with (we're already in an extreme drought right now).
That said, the forecast for this past summer was "much hotter than normal" and we had days in June where the high was 60. It got up to 95 a couple of days in July/August but nothing close to a "heat wave" really.
El Niño really threw everyone for a loop this year.
Definitely Twitter! And if you have a smart phone, set it so that it text you the tweets from the official PAX Twitter feed. It saved me last year. I have Twitter on my phone, but got the text before the tweet arrived!
How do you do that? I tried that on my iPhone and I found where I could set for a notification, but not a tweet. I'm not clear if notifications will work on this as I keep clicking on the same item and it keeps showing me that I'm not subscribed to the notification. So, I'd love to get a tweet on this.
i know its someplace but to save me for having to search for the exact thread does anyone have the file with all the dates and times that pax east tickets have gone on sale I know someone had a excel file

The Prime sellout dates for 2015 and 2016 could probably be changed to reflect how long it took before you couldn't purchase a set of all four (with annotations stating this, of course). It's still a useful metric even if the parameters have changed.
How about INCREASING PRICES so that we have a FAIR SHOT at a badge this year? My past three years of badges cost an average of $250 (each!) Reading that posted spreadsheet made me look at numbers and tendencies, and I wonder if the organizers are doing the same. Having fans competing with e-bots is unfair, and every year it's even more upsetting to be greeted at the convention center by scalpers with HUNDREDS OF BADGES on hand! Give us more than a battle of frustration and a window of 15 minutes! If you increase the price by 20-30 extra bucks, it'll be cheaper for the fan and the profit margin of a scalper is reduced. And more of the $$$ goes to organizers, workers, infrastructure, etc... Pretty please?

You are not the first person to suggest that, nor will you be the last. This interview goes over a bunch of "fixes" people have for ticket sales and how they won't work, plus touches on the epidemic of scalpers (tl;dr: there isn't one).
Oh, please don't raise the ticket prices. It's expensive enough as it is. We are a family of six (myself, my husband, and four daughters). We already have to jump through hoops to get enough tickets for all of us. The small ticket limit does not consider larger families at all. I know they want to try to stop scalpers, but does it really help? Anyway, it cost a lot of money for all of us to go already. Add on another $20-30 per ticket is like asking us to pay another $120-180.

wait...why wouldn't the scalper just raise the prices to compensate?

I'm not into the price increases. The $5-10 each year has been manageable but the $20 hike especially was troublesome when I'm buying for 4 people. I may not mind it so much if they were to brace you and release pricing at least a few weeks in advance so there's time to set aside some extra cash for the difference.
I really don't believe anything can stop scalpers/bots. I compare it to copy protection on games. Given time, someone is going to find a way around it. And yeh, raising prices would just make the scalpers raise theirs. Just like whypick1 said, basically for everything suggested, there is a negative effect to us, the fans. They could tie id's to the badges, but that essentially block kids from going (what 10yo has a legal government id?) Putting names and id numbers on the badges might work, but then you have to have someone at every entrance scanning badges every time anyone goes in, which means more workers and more special equipment.
What I would like to see is some kind of better regulation for handing out swag bags. We have missed out on getting any the last two PAX Easts. Then you see them in the garbage with the goodies picked out. What if you received tickets to exchange for swag bags with your convention passes? Or maybe some way to punch your pass to show you picked yours up for that day? Or some way to scan the pass when a bag is picked up, to note that that person already received theirs? I know there is mostly little fun things in the bags, nothing worth much, but they are still fun to get and part of the convention package. Each year, there are people who greedily take more than they are allotted and others end up with none. It shouldn't be first come, first serve. It should be you bought a ticket, you get a bag.

You aren't missing much....they've been less than stellar the last 2 times I've gone.

If that ends up being true, I'm good with it. Saturdays took over an hour to sellout for West 2016.
Second thought about the dates....Daylight Savings Weekend AGAIN?!?!
Can confirm, prices are now displaying $53 per day AND no 3-day passes (fine by me).
Also, badge status indicator has changed to SOON so all hands on deck!

Well, presumably the average scalper prices are a more accurate reflection of the value of the tickets based on demand. If they could charge more and people were willing to pay, they would have already been doing so. I couldn't speak to how much demand will be reduced, but you will reduce demand for the tickets by increasing the face value. I really don't know how much the face value would have to increase to see a meaningful reduction in demand, though. But if demand is meaningfully reduced, prices won't go up.
I figured the no 3 day option would be coming at some point. Wasn't it like that at West this year?
As for swag bags, I gave up on those years ago. It's seems like all it is now is a way to distribute ads/flyers and stickers.
I am glad to see that the dates and the obligatory SOON message have been put up on the site. At least the dates were announced before the tickets went on sale.
As for those interested in tickets and never bought any for this event before, I cannot stress more, GET TWITTER! Personally, I hate it and normally never use it. For PAX, however, it has been a godsend for me for the last 2 years. PAX is the only thing I use it for. Install it on every device you have (computer, tablet, phone, refrigerator (I kid)). Follow @Official_PAX and Khoo's (which escapes me at the moment). Also follow @PAX_lines when you are at the event. Configure twitter to refresh as fast as possible. It can be a drain on your battery, but hey, this is PAX. Also, configure twitter to send you a text and an email every time a tweet goes out. This saved me the most!
man up to 53.00 a piece and no 3 day passes that is a almost 60.00 jump for the people that were getting 3 day passes seems a lil steep kinda sucks but is what it is. Glad we have the offical date now and the soon
I wonder if the lack of three day passes will make getting a hotel easier? I will admit, 53$ per day is gonna hurt but I guess I should have been saving earlier. Three days will be 159$ per person so for me and my husband that'll be, omph 318$ Well, lets hope with the increase more people have a shot to go and maybe some new stuff is in the works!

Well...fuck. So now I'm looking at $636 just to cover my group up front. That's beyond a pain.

Well think about how many 3-days were available last year... Maybe 10% of the entire attendance count? The removal of weekend badges sucks for the very small number of people who do usually get them, but realistically the mass majority of us are only paying $9 a set more than we would've anyway.
I've always gotten the passes as individual so this doesn't hurt my pocket book any more than it did in the past. And I have to pay in Canadian, not American, so it's even more for me. But, I've been saying since the PAX finished so I'm good to go that way

People weren't actually thinking that I hope. September is clearly too early.
I'm in NY and never left the east coast in my life, as far as I'm concerned, East is the only one that exists.

No need to follow Khoo (@rkhoo) regarding PAX passes as he's moved on to bigger and better things. Indeed a sad loss to the PAX family.
