But, I have a tattoo aging question: the colors on the molecule are very light and have no border. How is that going to age?
Probably better than any linework. Linework obviously bleeds/fuzzes out over time, but watercolor splashes and the like should still look good even with bleeds/fuzzing, specifically since they're borderless.

Don't different colors wash out at different rates? I am thinking that the lighter colors may just disappear. Again, not bagging on your ink TRV, just curious. I have nothing but pretty traditional, heavy border black. Hopefully we both still look this good in twenty years.
From what I've seen of various pics online, the aging process for watercolour tats can vary by a large degree. There are various factors in play: skill of the artist, brand/colour of ink, both short and long-term aftercare, genetics of the tattooe.
In TRVs case, the watercolour only parts are pretty darn bold and they aren't foreground of the piece, so I imagine it will hold up very well even after a good few years.
I think combining the watercolor style with regular well done linework is a good way to make sure the aging of the colored parts won't have a big effect on the overall look

I have no clue how they'll age but let's meet in 20 years and update each other!
*Sets calendar*
If I am still posting here at the ripe old age of 62, then, well.
I'll be a pretty damn hip and with it 62 year old.
Posting in a 30+ year old forum?
Nah, you'll be just as old and out of date as your grandparents seem now.
We'll just be spending out time complaining about the neural interfaces and the super porn not being what it used to be and Amazon's army of kill drones instead of whatever current old people are complaining about in regards to the youth.
@Lost Salient
as far as European tipping for tattoos, i am no help -- my artist was an American on tour. i tipped 20-30%, and i'm pretty sure i shocked him (happily) since i think he was expecting to be tipped the local way.
but in that general area, they're not big on tips, so if you really want to, i'd ask first, and go 3-5% or round up to a nice even number.
My one concern that’s been holding me back from getting my tattoo started is finding someone who can do the colors well.
I want to get a space-themed sleeve but I don’t know how well these kinds of colors would even show
Though I suppose looking at that one, it really just looks like a rainbow, huh?
My girlfriend has a watercolor fox on her leg that still looks great after a couple of years. Even the white still looks pretty good.
She also has a nebula on her shoulder that's mostly blues and greens with some hints of reds and other warm colors. That's about a year old I think and it still looks awesome.
Hopefully this surprisingly relevant anecdotal evidence is helpful!
I love those. That's definitely my kinda tattoo...that I'll probably never get....because I'd want it to stay perfect forever, and tats don't work like that. :P
But DAMN they look nice!

I mean, fwiw, my oldest tattoo is eight years old and it looks mint still. I haven't even needed to get the white touched up. It's not like they literally disintegrate into mush, especially if you take good care of them.
But then, I love tattoos.
Everyone get tattoos.
Do it.

I used to want a large phoenix around my back and ribs, but I think that might be Hella Overkill for me now. Also what that represented to me back then seems no longer "needed" to me? I also have a weird enjoyment of having a back that has absolutely nothing on it. I have considered a small leaf or tree somewhere, and that's been something I've been interested in forever, and seems like it would be really straightforward...either base of the back of my neck, on my wrists, or something. But then that would be a small tattoo, in small lines, and would probably fuzz out again
Problems with being both an artist and a perfectionist, want the art on me to be perfect-looking forever.

Just do what a girl I went to elementary school with did, and get a cool spider web on your chest centred around your nipple, with a neat little redback spider on the web.
Quite why she decided to show me (most) of that when I was catching a bus out to my parents house 10 years later when I hadn't even seen her in that long I do not know...

I mean it's not like your face won't change in twenty years time.
People don't say, oh, don't get a face, imagine how it will look in twenty years time. Fuck that look good now and express your self?
Do you know how I'm going to look in twenty years time? Probably wrinkly and old, and so probably so are my tattoos. And if you really want to, your can get them touched up.
Yeah, but a touch-up doesn't ever seem to really solve that problem, you know? They'd have to remove the bleed of ink, not re-tattoo over it. And isn't that what a touch-up is, just adding more ink? It may look sharper in the end, but it's not the same as how it looked when it's original. And that's okay to some people, which is totes cool.
And yeah, my face will age, but I don't want any art on me looking out-of-focus or aged. It's entirely a personal preference. It's like...I have 7 ear piercings between two ears. One of the things I like about this body modification is that the earrings won't ever age! So the art I have on me there, via earrings, can look exactly how I want them to for decades, if that makes any sense.
I do love tattoos and looking at other peoples' tattoos, I just think I'm too picky for my own unless it's something very small...and even then, I'd have to accept the fact that it won't look perfectly new 20 years down the line.

I can't, which is why I'm in here living vicariously through all y'all. Y'all go get more awesome tats so I can oogle them!
So there's an artist nearby (some nsfw pictures) but their bio says they enjoy doing blackwork more than color and they don't have a ton of examples. But just looking at the one example they have up, the blending is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Might have to go have a chat and see if they have more examples.
Edit: I made an appointment so we'll see what they think!
Hey @godmode in regards to what you were asking, I just got this done a few months ago. While it doesn't have ALL the color I wanted (I liked that pick you posted) and theres a bit more pink then I'd prefer, the blending worked out pretty well I think. The stars in the background help a bunch too
Edit: I am actually pretty excited, The guy who did this tattoo also did my second one years and years ago, it was the first year he was tattooing and he wants to rework it a bit because everytime he sees me and sees that tattoo it drives him nuts. After we get settled in the new place I'm going to go see him.
So I realized I never followed-up about asking for improvement ideas on my back tattoo quite a long time ago (except for the upper part, which I shared), so here it is.

Still not 100% happy with the background trees and that middle trunk that is so crooked, but I love the rest of it so I'm calling it done =p.

Gah, does anyone have a link to that internet comic strip about why the artist gets tattoos? Because they make their body feel more like home, basically? I'm trying to find it for @Erin The Red and not having any google luck.

That is some amazing work right there. The detail level is crazy.
Since the end result is so absurdly badass, I don't feel bad mentioning how the red ovals on the left just look like a bunch of fingers with smiley faces to me

I follow a lot of blackwork artists but I know I've got some colour tattoo gold in my feed, I'll dig up some more when I'm in the office
