Road Trip [Chat]

RMS OceanicRMS Oceanic Registered User regular
So I'm thinking of taking a ferry to Britain and visiting Edinburgh and Lindisfarne and Newcastle and the Yorkshire Dales and York and the Antonine Wall and Hadrian's Wall and my sister's house in Manchester and the Talyllyn Railway and Anglesey and Dublin and my brother and my nephews and Newgrange and my house oh wait that's after I get back.

Another Road Trip I'd like to take is a San Diego-Seattle version of the Pacific Coastal Highway. Also some sort of Continental trip in the future.

Where would you want to go on a roadtrip, [chat]?

At some point when I have way too much free time, I want to do the former Route 66.

I've done Route 66, or at least Santa Fe, NM to OKC.

It's interesting. You see a lot of odd Americana along the way, not to mention some p cool mom and pop diners.

I kinda want to do the whole thing. And then maybe follow it up with California 1.

Isn't Cali 1 the one that runs along the coast and is in about a billion movies?

We did a little bit of the PCH going from San Francisco to LA, but we only got as far as Monterrey, because earlier we had taken some windy roads to see some redwoods and Mum was terrified, and when I confirmed that there are stretches of the PCH that are high and windy I couldn't put her through that. So we turned inland and took I-5 the rest of the way.

I didn't mind it, Steinbeck Country was interesting, but I wouldn't do it again.

Yep. Ideally I would drive it like they do in the movies with a mostly empty road. That seems unlikely for large stretches of it.
