Question regarding Gabe's/Mikes art style

I love his style and would like his permission to use it in an illustration i want to create and submit to deviant art's art for sick kids event. both my daughter and i are going to submit pieces, I just didnt want to use his character style without asking. I would credit him of course but it would still be an original piece (not taking his stuff just his style) Any know best way to ask him for this?
