Silent Hill Origins for the PSP!

Did a search and didn't see this talked about yet.

Seems like this version is less like RE4 than people were worried about, and sticks to the SH formulae. Anyone else looking forward to this? I am loving what I see so far!

This and FFTactics are the two reasons I will be getting a PSP eventually.

Until then though I plan on buying both of the games when they come out and waiting for cheap PSPs :)

I thought the game looked like shit until I saw the latest videos. It looks pretty damn good, but I still don't think Silent Hill would work on a handheld. It takes away half the game right there.

At least make a PS2 or a PC version or something, I don't care.

Looks awesome, I find that the size of a screen hardly changes a game's atmosphere after just a few minutes for you to get "drawn in," so to speak. RE DS really worked for me, and I hope the trend continues. I can't wait for this one.

EDIT: God I want an RE4-ish game for the PSP, it would work so well...no need for a second analog stick there.

Good for you, but no body cares about your purcasing plans. I won't be getting this game, I just dislike the survival Horror genre. Only 2 good ones were RE2 and RE4.

So, what is this exactly? A remake of SH1? Or another edition in the series, like a prequel or something?

If only people with a PSP were allowed to talk about this game, then the thread would quickly be dead.

I knew I was never going to get a PSP, I've been buying Nintendo products for most of my life. But:

    Final Fantasy Tactics Remake
    Castlevania X remake
    Silent Hill origins
    Cave Story

Why do you tantalize me so Sony?

It is a totally new game. But supposedly it kinda answers some questions about SH. Not sure when it occurs in the timeline, but I get the impression it is before SH2, if not SH1.

It takes place before the first one, hence the Origins in the title :P .
Of all the series' i can think of SH is one i dont really care to know its begginings in depth.. I like the way the town feeds off your fears and guilt, and i just sort of accepted it.

But im really impressed at the latest screens. They took a great leap from the last 80s purple spine monster thing.

It depends on how much detail they give. Seeing as the series has always been sorta vague of pretty mcuh anything, if the story is done right, they can give you an Origin, and still have you filling in the blanks yourself.

This looks cool, but a whole lot of why I enjoyed SH2 (the only one I've played) was based on playing it on a big TV in the dark with the sound turned way up. I think a lot of that would get lost in translation to a handheld.

I really dont think it will be less scary... I mean you can put yourself in the middle of your room with your head down at the screen and no walls to cover you... and piss yourself as much as needed

Wow that trailer was awesome. I wish there had been some gameplay footage, but judging by the cutscenes it's classic silent hill. None of that SH4 bullcrap. I'm kinda worried about it being a prequel though. SH1 already revealed a lot about the story, and I don't think there's much that could happen in this game without having a huge impact on the rest of the series. Hopefully I'm wrong and the story will be as great as the other 3, but we'll see. I'd just hate for this game to end up being very forgettable just so they don't have to retcon the other games for the story make sense.

Hush. This isn't a PSP game thread, this is a SH thread. The fact that most of the other entries in the series have been multiplatform means it's worth mentioning.

By the same token, this may be one of the games that'd push me into getting a PSP (along with Loco Roco and God of War PSP). There's nothing to bring me out of cautious enthusiasm, though, so far.

Dunno about that. I'd imagine similar chills could be had while playing the PSP version in bed with the lights out and headphones on.

But then again, I got creeped out back in the day by Res Evil 1 and 2 with the lights on.

Heh, I remember a friend and I playing thru D with the lights out and getting spooked.

Id just like an honest to god straight up remake of 1. It sounds like the more time has passed the more this has deviated from that. I've sworn to myself that I will complete 1 before continuing with 2 and 3 and its just so damn ugly.

Yeah, 1 is pretty fugly. So much so that I will break a personal rule and use the word "fugly."

It still really holds up as a game, though.

Gametrailers has 2 new trailers up with gameplay footage.

Gametrailers has the same videos that Game Informer put up, except they're a little bit better quality-wise. Game Videos however has some gameplay footage up:
    Hammer Video
    Burning House Video
    Hospital Video

Anyway, I really wasn't liking the look of it when the US office of Climax was developing it but now that it's been moved to the UK office, it looks really good. The monsters don't look like placeholders anymore and the camera seems to have gone back to the normal SH camera.

Graphically it looks ok. Better than SH1, but nowhere near SH2, 3, or 4. I still have doubts that it'll have as much effect on a handheld, personally.

SH is one of the few series that really benefits from boosted graphics (IMO). The texture work in SH3 was phenomnal, as were the character models. Sadly, I don't see myself getting a PSP so I won't get to see how good or bad this is, but if brings in more fans, that's good, then.
