Also there is a build-able teleporter as well? I'm not too sure on that. You can move base planets as well I think so it is a thing that doesn't anchor you to one planet forever.
I played a couple hours of it tonight and I'm still quite enjoying it. It makes for a good chill out game. Still working on getting the things that will let me get the things to build things in my base.
Looks like there's craftable beacons that let you target planets and go directly to them with some in game interface?
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Finally found a decent enough planet to call home, despite the perpetual rain and frequent subzero snow storms. Oh and the carnivorous 12-foot-tall dinosaurs.
Also bought what looks like a space galleon to follow me around the galaxy.
These new materials to harvest are kind of annoying me though.
Edit: so of course the very next freighter I come across is a friggin Star Destroyer but whoops my money went to the galleon
Boy talk about an article I do not want the read the comments on on any newssite
I took a peek at the comments in the linked article and they actually weren't completely awful.
My takeaway is that whenever you see the words procedurally generated you should always dampen expectations so that if a computer actually creates something compelling you can be pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, the 13 slot freighter I bought was about 7 mil. The 15 slot star destroyer I found soon after was about 11 mil.
I'm kinda annoyed too because prepatches I had huge stacks of those things that normally don't stack and I wish I could've sold it instead of having it all disappear.
Also you can buy storage cubes for your base which have only a handful of slots, but larger capacities for each slot. The fact that you can color code them is also nice (I've been putting my isotopes in a red box, for example, while iron goes in a yellow one).
The credit grind was really bad because it really pointless, pre-Foundation at least. The only thing that needed credits were ships with bigger inventories and the only reason for a bigger inventory was to make more money to spend on
a ship with a bigger inventory. Rinse and repeat, ad nauseum

I played this game for around two hours, then put it down to play some other games.
I didn't put it down because I disliked it or was tired of it. Far from it!
But I heard the buzz about it and quickly realized the direction Hello Games was going to go with this. Investing a lot of time in that beginning stage would mean that I'd be likely to tire of it very quickly and be rather unlikely to return to it later once it was more.... more.
Also it crashed when I tried to land on a planet (PS4!) and I got mad.
This update looks good. Real good. It has me itching to play it again.
But I will resist. I still have a backlog of great games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and World of Final Fantasy that aren't going to receive more huge updates. And every indication is that there is a whole lot still to come for this one.
So, I'll keep waiting. But I'm excited. And that feels really great. I love looking forward to games.
..I'll just try not to think too hard about how I could have saved $30 by waiting to purchase it at the right point to play.

Also, not being able to mine stuff like Titanium anymore without an advanced mining ray or whatever is some horseshit.
Work on the base building questline stuff and the weapon-alien you hire will give you a quest to get an advanced mining laser for like the second or third thing.
Takes a number of chores for the other aliens you hire to get to that point, mind.

so i booted this up to check out the new stuff and now i get this annoying staticy/buzzing sound at all times (except in menus and when certain UI things pop up like a new signal found), in trying to mess with my sound settings to fix it, the game crashed twice on exit leaving me with a black screen and forcing a restart
Master the surface of your home planet using new Exocraft. These land-based vehicles give new meaning to planetary navigation, combat and mining – and can be summoned from anywhere on the planet they were constructed upon.
The smallest Exocraft is the Nomad. What it may lack in cargo space, this hovercraft makes up for in speed, agility and its ability to glide over water
Each starship has a specialisation (Shuttle, Fighter, Hauler or Science) that improves performance in specific areas.
Shuttles are all-rounders, Fighters specialise in combat, Haulers have expanded cargo holds and Science vessels feature increased warp capabilities
In addition to new ship types, all ships will now be class-rated: A, B, C or the ultra rare S class.
When purchasing a new ship, you’ll now be given the option to trade in your current ship for a discount.
This all seems pretty cool? Good on em for carrying on with free content like they said too

I started a new save this past week just to get re-familiar with it.
I've been looking at this as something to try after I finish Subnautica. Seems a good time to try with the multi-player update - bit of co-op base building and exploration.
Was wondering how it compares story-wise? Is the plot just the whole getting to the centre of the galaxy thing?

Getting to the center is more an over-arching goal provided by the developers than a plot.
They added a lot of proper story content in the last major update, but I didn't get very far into it before other games distracted me again.
Also I have just discovered the exocraft mining laser and now I need to figure out how to set up an exocraft on a planet with a shitton of expensive metals
Apparently everyone gets a freighter/frigate now???
like, hoping that's not just a rumor because holy shit that would make things a lot more convenient
yeah, in one of sean murray's big new interviews he outlines bringing freighters in a lot more easily for players: it's apparently about 8 hours into the main questline.
Yo, this character customization is actually more robust than I was expecting!
Not robust enough for a Monster Factory episode, unfortunately

Fuck it. I bought it on PC. If I’m going to play it again I might as well have it look the best it can. Wish they make the interactions am immediate click instead of the slow circle fill.
I thought there’s an option in the settings that lets you change that? Maybe it’s a mod though

Has anyone seen any official word on if there's going to be a fresh Galaxy with the update? It's been a while but I seem to remember them doing something like that before when they split into creative and survival modes?

almost certainly: the terrain generation has changed substantially by the sounds of it

I've seen the word that the patch resets the universe. Don't know how true that is.

I always roll my eyes pretty hard at false advertising claims
13 slot ones are like 7.5 million or so. I've heard there are larger ones out there but that's the first size I saw and what I jumped on.
Each slot can store 1000 of resources.

I bought one for 7 million, so less than a lot of the ships
It didn't have a huge inventory though, so I'm guessing there's a similar size/price escalation as the small ships

I wish there was an option, unless I missed it. My very quick mod search found one mod but it seems out of date.
