Come on, guys. Would it kill you to make sure you don't fuck up "its" and "it's"? In the same fucking sentence?

Did they really fuck up the balloons?

    Yeah, kind of.

Balloongate is depressing. They were literally created using the despair and suffering of children.

“It’s the tying that’s really really really hurting us. So yeah, that’s the problem,” he says.
“The majority of our school is African American, so you can only imagine how we’re gonna feel about Donald Trump and how he feels about us,” says 14-year-old Kahlil Tyus.
As they sit there surrounded by the red white and blue balloons, I can’t find a single student who says they would vote for Trump.
Eighteen-year-old Terez Siggers says police shootings are weighing her down. “I woke up one day, went on Twitter, and this video just went viral. The next morning it was another one. I couldn’t take it. I couldn’t–like it’s too much. I don’t want to keep waking up to bad news, I want to wake up to ‘Hey look at this, it’s a beautiful world.’ I’m waking up to another man killed for selling CDs, like I can’t. I don’t want to hear it anymore.”
“What’s most important to me is a president who’s trying to make peace with almost everybody, trying to bring everybody together, because you can’t have peace if everybody doesn’t love each other, so you have to make everybody come together and love each other for you to have peace.”

Announcing at 1 AM on Colbert's show would be kind of dumb. I think the Stewart appearance was the thing we'd be talking about tomorrow.

I thought Trump came off as having gotten better at reading the teleprompter. He still couldn't help himself and tone it down a bit on the red meat and throw in a few believable "our best days are ahead" and "beacon of freedom" lines. The "I'm with you" joke worked pretty good in the moment, but I'm not sure it works in the real world. "I'm with her" has a be part of something that Trump doesn't have. Trump still has a lot of work to do and a lot of pivoting to do to be a threat in November.

CNN Instant poll had 75% approval on his speech, but nothing for crosstabs or anything. And they admit it skewed Republican because GOPers are more likely to watch the speech

Announcing Perez in Florida would make more sense than Vilsack given the Latino/Caribbean factor. Kaine speaks Spanish so he'd make sense too but he's apparently going to be in MA all day

I couldn't watch, so what about Trump's speech was that bad? Was it really that much worse than his typical prepared remarks+occasional ad libbed shittiness? Are there any memorably awful one liners?

There was the part where I couldn't decide if Trump was advocating for international racketeering or neo vassal states, but mostly the speech was just a boring (and looong) hodgepodge of Trumpisms. I was starting to read a Fusion article and the author of that article put it nicely: "the gist of his speech was that we are all about to be killed by immigrants, terrorists and other evildoers unless we put our faith in him."

    Edit: So, y'know, Trump!

    He alone can save.

I have no idea since I couldn't find anything to compare it to. I'll say that I thought Trump did pretty well given a low bar. Not sure if that translates into anything. I'm taking the default view that the polls don't change much in the next week or at least much more than they typically change after a convention. I kinda thought he'd go boom but so far not yet.
