IIRC, Bill has been having some issues, he got checked out for Parkinson's because people have noticed his hands shaking and his voice cracking during speeches.
I'm not saying he has or doesn't have it. I said that's the kind of thing that happens, and it would be sad if he has it. I would totes do that though.

There's a company about 15 minutes from my house that *always* has at least 3 IT openings
Check glassdoor and apparently they pay well and all that, but they require everyone to wear a suit and the glassdoor reviews are full of IT people who "left for a less uptight work place" as soon as they were able
I love the idea that a reasonably large corporation probably suffers from IT staffing issues because of their dress code
I'll apply there if I can't find anything else including stocking at wal mart
Somehow at my last place we found really good it people and they always were business casual
Here they dress out of the clothing that comes out of deluxe editions of games and they sort of suck
So I'm assuming that IT folk in suits must be incredible
Homogeneous distribution of your varieties of amuse-gueule
A dresscode when it makes sense is ok. If you're outward facing, have to be easily identifiable, if it protects you and others from harm, if you are preparing food.
But if a company is very strict on the dress code for people behind closed doors it makes me suspect they're also going to be annoying as hell in other ways. Because they're showing that they believe in rules for rules sake, not because rules are needed.
And that sets off my anti-authoritarian streak something fierce.
The one I'm referring to has ultra strict dress code and it's literally a factory, there is no customer facing aspect to it at all

There should be times to relax it when the right people aren't feeling welcomed and are vitally needed.

Shit boss made us all wear white dress shirts with black slacks.
He got upset with me when I decided to wear a sweater over my dress shirt one cold winter day.
I believe my exact words were "Oh. Oh well I guess" when confronted with "that's not in our dress code Bowen".

Having a strict dress code when it's a nightmare to keep IT staff in this town is kind of silly
We're right in between Milwaukee and Chicago, both markets pay significantly more money and have better prospects. If I want to wear a suit every day I'd go where "fantastic starting pay" isn't $40,000
Amazon Chat Rep: Yes, <Drez>. The delay is totally not acceptable and I will make them to deliver the product today by end of the day. as a token of apology I would like provide you with some discount on the product to compensate inconvenience.
"I will MAKE THEM deliver it today."
(In this case "them" is UPS.)
For some reason I am hearing this in the "righteous fury knight voice"
This slight shall not be born! On my fathers grave I swear you shall be avenged this day.
I get that reading too, but what gets me more is that this is learned behavior. The Amazon script almost certainly doesn't go full ham, keeper of oaths, defender of the package delivery time. These reps have learned to play it up because customers like it and think it's genuine. This is what your aunt wants to hear. This is what your cousin wants to hear when he contacts Amazon. So they do it even though it's a farce, and take in the sweet, sweet performance metrics.
@Donkey Kong It certainly worked on me. I was ready to blast the poor sod with fire from the pulpit as if this rep were Satan himself.
I also wrote out my entire story before hand and basically pasted my diatribe as my Amazon chat opener.

My visit to the italian consulate was a great success. Now I will have a passport mailed to me in however many of the weeks.

Apparently getting my wife's citizenship and passport will be a whole seperate ordeal though. Hopefully I'm better at working the levers of Italian beurocracy now.

I've heard nothing but horror stories about working for Amazon at all levels.
That said, one of my college roommates passed through there--just worked there for a few months I think, as a data scientist--and used the name to leapfrog to a well-paying position elsewhere. So maybe that's what you're supposed to do there? (I have no clue whether she's a good data scientist. I used to think she was not very gifted quantitatively but that was probably pretty uncharitable of me).

sometimes I feel bad about only wearing jeans and a sweater/tshirt but then I remember that 10% of the time I have to crawl through the plenum space or get into dusty shit.
Cleaning dress clothes was annoying when it had some dust.
I remember I ripped some nice pants because I snagged on a loose metal piece on an old server rack.
Fuck that garbage.

wish I knew what an attainable ask would be for a cost of living adjustment from houston to seattle-ish error. Cost of living calculators I've looked at seem to be ~25 to 30%. Most of that from housing of course. Looking at salaries for equivalent job titles, mine would be in that range (surprised how high Boeing's are). The hiring process is so weighted towards the company. I guess unless you're a super rockstar or something. Even then, the employers can collude to depress wages. boo.
If I was going to work 70+ hours a week, I'd want nearly 200k a year.
Fuck that noise, you want me to kill myself, I want hazard pay.
they pay like $45k too, that's the hilarious part
New salaried campus technology positions pay almost that here at the university as well. The difference is that I know from working here that the entire staff will drop whatever they're holding and leave the building at 4:30 sharp unless the place is literally on fire; you work for a smallish public university not for the pay but because it's a low stress environment with good job security
you work for amazon out of... desperation I guess

Yeah, I'm 29 with no debt. If anything, I'm looking to keep my salary about the same and work progressively less.

okay yeah no I'd literally rather work retail
It's so gauche
Is this how the rich feel about new money
(Not really an apt analogy because I'm not rich or getting loads of rt's)
at my last job i had to wear button downs and dress pants every day
but was also expected to like, crawl in the disgusting dirty ceiling and run cable if necessary
having a suit dress code is fine its just kind of ridiculous to make people who do physical things also do it
maybe i'm streaming terrible dj right now if i am its here
