Legend tells us of the Green Comet that lit up our night sky and opened the Gates to the Pokemon's world. From those gates came the fae monsters and our world changed. We reacted poorly to them, fought the new monsters and nearly destroyed ourselves doing so. But Legend also tells us of a child who befriended an injured Pikachu. Together, they changed our view on Pokemon, and we learned how to coexist with them. Together, humans and Pokemon grew closer and stronger.
The child grew up and became our first Emperor. And peace held over Kanto for years. Each Emperor that sat in the Indigo Palace did so with the wisdom, strength, and courage that the previous Emperor had. The light of our land spread across the world and we lived in a time of greatness. But the last Emperor grew sick and people feared that without a heir, we would return to the chaos. Their fears became our reality.
When the Emperor died, 8 Warlords rose to try to take the throne. They fought a war that destroyed much, cost us nearly everything, and in the end, earned them nothing. The seven remaining clans, tired for the war, bound themselves in an uneasy truce, claiming small areas of Kanto for their own. The Indigo Palace Gates were closed and for nearly thirty years we've lived in a new age of darkness. The wild Pokemon, once kind creatures who were our friends, now see us as threats to the world, and they have became a danger to those who travel. We struggle to find that peace we once held, all the while we wait tensely for the one word, one action, one mistake that will break the truce and plunge us back into the darkness forever.
This is a Pokemon Voltage game, first created by
@Marshmallow and slightly modified by me.
You can find the rules here. This game is set in a feudal Japan time, thirty years after the death of the last Emperor and the Clan Wars. There are 7 remaining Clans; Stone, Flame, Tide, Lighting, Shadow, Leaf, and Wind. The 8th Clan, Star, was wiped out during the War when their warlord died.
The idea is that your character is a young teenager from Slate Village, where modern day Pallet Town is. It’s a small fishing village that was once a popular port for fishermen and sailors going between the Kanto and Jonto region. The closest town is Malachite Post, a small trading town that is neutral to all Clans. Slate Village is claimed to be under the protection of the Stone Clan from the Pewter Mining Camp but the village protects itself and the people rarely claim any loyalty to the Clan.
While the guide has directions on how to build your Pokemon, it doesn’t state how much starting Exp you get. This is for testing purposes. For now, your first Pokemon will start with 30 Exp to spend on stats. All Pokemon Stats (HP, Atk, SpAtk, Def, SpDef, and Speed) start with 1 point in them. So to raise it to 2 will cost 2 Exp. For now, just list what moves you would like your Pokemon to have and I’ll make the move myself (which you can argue against the strength of if you like, I’m willing to work with you). This is because I’m not sitting down right now and listing each and every move. This is just an Alpha Playtest. For your first Pokemon, pick one that is pretty common. Legendaries will not be allowed as starters, nor will final evolution Pokemon. In this game, I’m going to be dealing with native to the Kanto region, but that doesn’t mean that there is only the first 151 in the world. Trading between regions did exist at one point (not quite so much now) and so you could inherit a Pokemon not native to the Kanto region. Just make sure it’s something common. Starter Pokemon from the games are fine to have too.
If you have any other questions, ask. I’m looking for a 4 players max for this test. You must be able to post once a day on weekdays, maybe once a weekend, although this isn’t a concrete thing as it’s Play by Post and real life does slow things down. I’m not sure how long this adventure will be as I have just the slightest idea of where it’s starting but we’ll see.

History of the World, as known by the characters:
-Long ago a Green Comet flew through the night sky and opened portals to the Pokemon World. These Portals let many Pokemon into our world before closing when the Comet flew away.
-People fought the new monsters until a young boy befriended the Pokemon. This boy created peace between people and Pokemon and became the first Emperor of Kanto. His and his heir's reigns were an Era of Peace.
-When the last Emperor died from sickness, he had no heirs. This created chaos that caused 8 clans to rise up and try to claim the throne. This time was the Clan Wars, which lasted 5 years. During that time, the Star Clan was destroyed. In the End, the 7 remaining clans signed a truce and no one took the Indigo Throne.
-Pokemon in the wild have returned to not trusting people. They now attack travelers who trespass through their lands, attack villages and cites and are a major threat to humankind. Some people use Pokemon to protect themselves from Wild Pokemon and as weapons against other people. Others see them as pets or companions.

Yuto was generally an outcast. He was tall and skinny, with almost no physical prowess to talk of. In addition, he had a ravenous appetite for new knowledge. When you looked like a stick and spent all you time with your nose in a book, people had little positive to say.
But Instead of taking his beatings and playing dead, Yuto turned his appetite into a means of survival. He turned his attention to the people in Slate village instead and gathered small bits of information on all of those who bullied them, building little by little into larger more valuable secrets. Trading secret for secret, he was able to soon turn the tables on his tormentors and blackmail them into leaving him alone.
This power opened the world up for Yuto. He wasn't an evil kid, he just realized that all information was powerful and the person who hoarded it was the one who was actually the most powerful. And so, he honed his mind to ensure it was like a steel trap, he didn't often forget anything and even then, he kept a small journal for his most important facts.
Pokemon became a constant source of excitement as he studied them. There was so much to learn about them and so many people who desired that information and would be willing to trade the world for it.

Kaz and Yuto were drawn to each other through a mutual interest and a general obsession of gathering information. In Kaz's case, he was just generally curious about the world. He wanted to see and know everything and being an Abra, he had the mental capabilities to absorb it all.
The duo formed a tentative pair, a codependent relationship where Yuto's drive for knowledge dated Kaz's hunger and Kaz's natural abilities helped enable Yuto to reach his goals.
The two communicate almost exclusively in sarcasm, but it has been building a bond between them as the spent more them together that will eventually surpass their mutual desires for knowing and seeing everything.
Is Class from a selection, or generally just something you make up?

A daughter of Slate Village, Kana has the sea in her blood. Like her mother and grandmother before her, Kana heard the call of the ocean and answered spending her days as an ama bringing back the bounties that could only be found in the sea to support the family. However, the wealth from her fishing is barely enough to sustain the family...the cache of Slate Village fish isn't what it once was.
Kana has a determination to make sure her family never starves and if she needs to seek her fortune elsewhere...so be it. The Father of the Deeps has always provided for his faithful and it is a fundamental truth that where there is water, the Father is there to watch over all. Kana has made the proper offerings at the Shrine and she awaits to see what the portents tell her.

Also, in case anyone wants a fast way to plan out pokemon stats to get to that 30xp, you can use this formula in Excel.
= (A1*(A1+1) / 2)-1
A1 is just the value of what you want the stat to be, and that will spit out how much xp is needed to that level. Put all the stats together and do a sum of them to figure out if you're at the limit yet or not.
Not sure if you want to know like what time in our world this would take place. It would be during some time period when samurai and shoguns were things. There have been 23 Emperors and Empresses since the first Emperor. Most of them lived to be old except the last one who died before he was 40. The Clan Wars didn't last too long, about 5 years, and it's been thirty years since then. Small battles have popped up during those years, but so far all out war hasn't broke out. But each fight becomes worst and worst.
Nah. Marshmallow didn't really require weaknesses and resistances to match so I won't either. When I make the powers, if you guys want them to have a different type (Like I had Fury Cutter, a Bug Type move, turned into a Steel type for Marsh's game) then let me know. I'll make the powers later this afternoon when I wake up (just got off work about an hour ago.)
Yeah, I guess I'm wondering if this is early Edo period, which it kind of sounds like from the "imported pokemon" note, or earlier.

As the son of a Star Clan samurai turned ranger, Nadare was never particularly popular among the children of Slate Village. Luckily, being the son of a ranger, he was more than capable of escaping into the woods for a chance to avoid malice. It was on one of these occasions that he found Haibisukasu, who was following him around trying to eat the flowers he had picked up.
The nickname comes from clatter of nestuke he has carved, and keeps hanging from his belt. He uses these to hang a somewhat ridiculous number of pouchs and boxes, holding flowers he's picked, small woodworking tools, and a collection of "survival" equipment.

Nadare's nickname is especially amusing when compared to the absolute silence with which Haibisukasu tends to move. As a fairly large Ryhorn, she can power through most man-made objects, yet when given her way, will avoid breaking things. Or stepping in puddles. After any amount of strenuous activity, Haibi expects to be given a thorough bath, and maybe a flower garland.

I don't know Japanese Time Periods. History is more my brother's specialty.
I might change things and add Stamina to Trainers, as I see a lot of you are wanting to fight too. So give me a bit on working that out since I originally thought that I would have Trainers be less of fighters. Shouldn't be too hard to do.
It's something you make up. It just tells what kind of person you are, like Bug Catcher or Ace Trainer or Ninja or PokeBreeder.

Arkose is something of an oddball to his family, being a quiet, thoughtful kid during a time when the Stone Clan have thoroughly set on being a bunch of rock headed bullies. He spends much of his time at home, or gazing at the half-broken mosaics of ancient history at the road shrines, though he enjoys hiking out to Slate Village where he has, very slowly, been accepted by the villagers as a decent person.
His dream is to find out where pokemon came from, and whether the door to that magical place is still open- if indeed there is another world at all.
He's really not all that much brighter than other kids his age, but he thinks of himself as something of a pokemon p... What's the word he's looking for? Perhaps it hasn't been invented yet. He settles for introducing himself as a wandering scholar. Kumo is shrouded in mystery, just how she likes it! After getting knocked out of the sky during one of the Stone Clan's training sessions by a battle hardened Onix, Arkose nursed her back to health. She'd love to get revenge on the Clan, and in general, to prove that it's not so far-fetched that her kind can become powerful.
Beyond that, Kumo wants to be respected. If you sit on a chair at a table to eat, so will she. If someone says hello to you, well, she is there too, and she'll let you know about it.
That said, she is Arkose's greatest friend, and practically a bodyguard to boot.

So I noticed that for Ambitions, you have the basic idea but not any of the XP stuff.
So if you've ever played Marvel Heroics, Ambitions are kinda like Milestones. You have 3 stages of an Ambition, each one giving you xp at different ranks. The first rank, 1 xp, is always going to be something very basic for your Ambition. Like if your Ambition is "Best There Ever Was" then your first rank could be "Gain 1xp when you accept a challenge". It's something easy for you go do, so you are almost guaranteed to get it each session (or in this case, each Act). The second rank, 3 xp, is something a bit harder to achieve but do able quite often. So for our sample Ambition, you might have "Gain 3xp when you defeat a challenger who was perceived to be stronger than you." The 3rd rank, 5xp, is the hardest challenge you will face for your Ambition. It's the ultimate goal for your character. For our sample it could be "Gain 5xp when you defeat a challenger of renown, like a Gym Leader or Champion".
The last rank, the Buyoff, is when you give up on your dreams. Doing this means that you will no longer be able to gain Trainer Exp for the rest of the Chapter, however, you will gain 10 xp for doing so. For our Sample, "Best There Ever Was" could be "Buyoff: You lose your Ambition when you run from a challenge that was too hard for you."
When the next Chapter begins, you can regain your ambition or take a new one. You will be able to gain the first rank up to 3 times an Act but the rest are once an Act, and the Buyoff is once a Chapter. You'll know when we reach new Acts or Chapters because I will be changing them in the thread title and open the post with something like "Chapter 1, Act 1: Big Adventures Start With Small Steps!"
I see in the rules doc there are samples but are we basically fine to create whatever ambition as long as we explain the 1/3/5xp tiers?
If those generally work, I'll probably add one more then I think my stuff is done.
