Didn't even remember that Sosa was with Texas for #600. Or that it came against the Cubs.

It always makes me sad when I remember Piazza ended his career with the A's. But apparently he actually had a pretty good year before that with the Padres? Huh.
Also holy shit he had a seven WAR in his rookie year. That was his second-best year.

Scooter Gennett smacking 4 dingers and Scherzer striking out 11 through 4 innings (14 total) were good, but baseball had a couple of old white guys talking racist bullshit today, so net negative, unfortunately.
Not a great look! Especially for a city that was so adamant about not being racist about a month ago when Adam Jones called out the fans who were yelling racist remarks at him.
Addison Russell isn't suiting up for tonight's game because he's under investigation under MLB's domestic violence policy. It looks like a friend of his wife posted a claim on social media that he abused his wife, and they're reportedly already splitting up
Which...is awful. The whole situation is very new and still moving, but...

Hey baseball thread, baseball is happening.
Aaron Judge led all 3 triple crown categories in the AL going into play today.
Also, while I'm here, trade:
Raijin gets:
Francisco Lindor
Justin Turner
James Paxton
first Miguel Montero gets himself kicked off the team for blaming the pitching staff for his...inability to throw out a single baserunner all year, now the cubs are meeting with trump? smdh
(It was a tweet where a cubs player appeared to flip off Trump (but didn't really). The twitter account changed their name to something i don't endorse so i took it down.)
what's fun is that he's definitely been the best pitcher in the rotation
I fully expected the starting pitching to regress some this year, but it's been dramatically worse. they keep talking like they want to trade for pitching, but...the offense hasn't been lighting it up either, and they're going to need more than one pitcher, probably? like, I could see Lester and Hendricks rebounding some in the second half, maybe, but Lackey looks dead in the water and Arrieta is...he's been fine, relatively, but I think this is probably who he actually is as a pitcher
I don't want to doom and gloom and mope given that they're still within some sort of range of the brewers, but it does feel kind of miraculous that they're even hovering near .500 at this point

Trust me, I'm a multi-cat owner.
My family had a cat that would leave his toy mice at the top of the stairs, and would chase them and bring them back when we tossed them down.
Anyways, back to baseball. 7 straight losses for the champs. Oof.
I think the cards social media person has to retire now, I think those are the rules
Nobody cares.

This link has autoplay video of Mike Schmidt saying that the Phillies couldn't build around Odubel Herrera because of a language barrier
And this link has Jerry Remy, TV analyst for the Red Sox, saying he doesn't think a translator should be allowed to go to the mound during a visit and that (in this case) Tanaka should "learn baseball language."

I'll miss you Yoan even though you never even played for me.
Hey wait a minute. I thought it was always sunny in Philadelphia.

Dan Gilbert was, apparently, there. I don't know why.

plus two errors!
that's as bad of a first inning as I've ever seen from the Cubs, and I've seen some bad Cubs teams

The White Sox now have 7 top 100 prospects.
