Why get a charmer set when Sakura farm gives just as many charms
Because it's the Blue Guild armor and it looks fabulous. :D

You can get slightly more charms with a Charmer set eating for Explorer and Farcaster'ing out than you can by just running out, mining coal, and coming back. Over 10 trials of each, I got something like 12 or 14 more charms in the same amount of time (if you recalculate it based on time spent vs. charms obtained). Also, you get a LOT more Shining Charms, which is useful given that there are several skills that don't even exist on Timeworn Charms (Perception, for example).

I really...really want the Black armor set and a good pierce bow. I just...I die too easily using Rapid and Spread shots.

I think for now I'm going to upgrade my Lightning bow because I like the way it looks.

EDIT oh shiiii alatreon bow plz giev
There's no appreciable difference in hunting with Rapid and Piercing shots for a bow, really. The Pierce shot critical distance is, at most, one more backhop of distance away from you, and the critical distance is recalculated for each individual pierce hit, making it very unlikely that you'll get critical distance for all of the Pierce hits unless you are scrapping at Spread distance anyway (3 backhops or about 2 rolls).

If you REALLY want to pursue the Piercing shot lifestyle, you should probably go with a bowgun. More accurate, more powerful, and longer critical distance (especially for higher level Pierces). Not to mention the built-in Piercing Element shots that a lot of bowguns have.

Even though I joked about it earlier, I'm really uninterested in Bowgun hunting

LBG seems alright, but I much prefer the feel of Bows

Played through this up to the hunt all 4 new dudes in Village, exclusively using Aerial Swaxe. It's a bit weird, that every fight plays out exactly the same way and in less time than my CB hunts took in 4U? It's kind of broken the reward loop of actually getting better and fighting new things.

the short answer is realistically you don't and any mizu claws you're going to get are from end of hunt rewards

if you're dead set on it better make a destroyer setup or something.

Or carves. It's a 20% carve from LR Mizu. The LR village quest gives 6% for 2 from both main and sub rewards, and the subquest is just break head - much easier.

Omg finally got my redhelm set to level 7 last night.

Now I'm now longer gated by ragehair, but by my own lowly hunter rank.

But the HR7 key quests look like such bullshit!

I found I could sub in Alecunath S for helm and arms to get a sort of Toka lite. It's not bad and will hold me over.

I always intended to sub out the helm anyway to drop Ele Crit and pick up another skill in it's stead.

Hmmm. . . There's a mix that will give me Antivirus, Mushromancer, Chain Crit, and Crit Boost.

Question for the thread. It's been established that I'm bad at MonHun.

Given that, is soloing the Guild lagiacrus in 22 minutes bad? If so how do I get better?

I hit most of my arrow shots with at least level 3 charges, if not power shots, and most were at critical distance.

I didn't bring bombs or traps though, because I expected him to be a pushover. I didn't cart but it took, like I said, super long.

Using Redhelm lvl7 and a level 3 Teo bow for reference. (with mushroomancer)

Honestly, 22 min for a solo hunt against multiplayer scaling is fine.

Like, you can definitely do it much faster, but my normal target for that kind of fight is 15-20 anyways. They're going to more or less take twice as long as offline due to extra health and reduced damage.

Or you can cheese shit hard with min-maxed shenanigans that let you drop G-rank endgame stuff solo in like 2 min, but...

Yep. Only needs one more accolade for the Toka gloves and then I need to build Gore S helm and Silver Sol chest.

I have everything else for it.

    edit:

    Gore s
    Silver solmail
    Toka
    Toka
    Toka

    +5 Frenzy resist 3 slot.

if you didn't want frenzy resist your helm+charm option would depend on your charm. You could probably build it out a few different ways depending on what skills you wanted instead.

edit: remember antivirus is solely there to boost affinity off of the Frenzy Body art.

Improving at bow really means learning where the Shot weakpoints are and aiming relentlessly for those places. For Lagiacrus, it's the head > neck > hind legs. Shots that hit the body will do around half the damage of hitting the head.

I was very focused on trying to maintain 100% affinity all the time for a while there with my builds but I think going with this mix has some advantages.

It's still high crit (65%-70%) with burst potential up to 95-100% but has the ability to give me Mushromancer or any other situational 5 gem utility skill.

Edit: crit numbers based on the fact I am using the Narga lance(40%) with it.

Hmmm I forgot I built the Aelucanth S blademaster set a bit ago in my quest to make all the bug armors.

I think I can get this to at least Critical Eye +3 and crit boost, but I don't know if I'll have the slots for anything else. Maybe I'll make the Insectiscythes after all, just for the two slots

  • ArchArch Neat-o, mosquito! Registered User regular
Honestly, for a similar reason I might upgrade the Twin Chainsaws to the Guillotines instead of the Golem's saws. I lose a decent amount of Raw and the sharpness is harder to get to white (although it has longer blue and green), but I'd rather have the two slots so I can get to 5 open slots when using Deviant armors

all you really need is an expert charm that's +5 or has 3 slots

I used Aelucanth S before i finished Silverwind for crit eye +3 and crit boost but obviously silverwind is superior even though it has lower defense due to freeing up a talisman slot and having evade +2/evade extend

I'd be all over silverwind if I wasn't so into the crit lance thing right now.

With a fairly easy +7 expert charm (or +4 2 slot or whatever) I could do all Toka except the head and use Alecunth for it. Then get Crit Eye+2, Chain Crit, and Crit boost.

As optimal? no. Looking like a Bug Samurai does tend to add extra pro points to it's column towards it's consideration though.
