    I also think it's 100% okay to like Hamilton and not like rap. Just like it's 100% okay to like Hamilton and not like musicals. Or 100% okay to not like Hamilton... it's not for everyone. But if you are a huge theater geek like I am, there are a lot of awesome hidden gems throughout Hamilton. Like the lyric "You've got to be carefully taught" from Burr (South Pacific) or "Now I'm the model of a modern major general" (Pirates of Penzance).

    Some "I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this message" commercials have started popping up in Illinois. They're hilarious. They're clips of things Trump has said, then clips of high ranking RNC members talking about how fucked the Republican party is. And that's about it really. Not that there needs to be anything added, of course. Hillary could basically just stream the news as her campaign commercials at this point, she doesn't have to come up with things to say because everyone else is already saying them.

    The weird part of listening to Hamilton was that it was billed as being like The Rap Musical and like I guess it is but mostly the ones that stuck out were just straight up good sad musical songs about his dead kid or his troubled marriage.

    I saw one from a pro-Hilary PAC that was footage of Donald Trump talking about how he prefers soldiers who don't get captured and then an angry Vietnam Vet talking about being shot down and taken prisoner.

    In the Heights was also billed as "The Rap Musical". There have been dozens of Rap Musicals over the years, actually, but none really with the style and talent of Lin-Manuel Miranda (I can say similar things about Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez). Lin-Manuel Miranda is crazy brilliant and not just a freestyle rapper (although that part is also crazy brilliant). He grew up as a theater geek, listening to cast albums and doing a lot of theater growing up.

    there are a lot of examples of people only conditionally liking the stuff. either they only like eminem (who's white), or they only like socially conscious hip hop (blackstar et al), or they love jokey shit (like weird al or whatever). that + the popular music stations that say 'all the hits, none of the rap' or whatever.

    people can like what they want and it can be totally innocent. but hamilton is another object on the pile of 'white people approved rap' that makes some people a little uncomfy.

    so it's totally ok, just like a movie with only male leads. but viewed holistically, i think it can expose some ugly opinions in popular culture.
