Geometry Puzzle [chat]!

Who wants to do geometry constructions?

No, well we’re gonna anyway.
A bit of backstory. Way, way back in the late aughts I had a crappy phone support job and watched a lot of anime. Fullmetal Alchemist was a favorite of mine, and I’d often doodle the various alchemy seals from the show while listening to customers blather on. In the course of my drawing I became intrigued by one of the shapes, and I posed myself a brain teaser that took me several years of poking at during bored moments until I finally solved it. Now I pose it to you:

Select a point, then create a circle centered on that point. Now, using only straightedge and compass, construct a 3x3 square grid so that it intersects with that circle thusly:
y4fKfMz.jpg

This is real easy if you start with the grid, but deceptively hard if you start with the circle. Until you know the trick anyway.

Good luck, math nerds!

If you'd like to work on a solution and post it, this site has a nice tool for drawing geometrics.

Solutions
Clipse: A coordinate system? Madness! And the proof.
Hirocon: A trisection and projection.
Surfpossum: A circle and a quartered inscribed square.

My solution:
Really don't look if you're interested in solving, I'd like to see if anyone else comes up with it.

life's a game that you're bound to lose / like using a hammer to pound in screws
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze
bad things happen, no one knows why / the sun burns out and everyone dies

    No, it's a mathematical construct

    No, it's a mathematical construct
    It is both and neither.
Thus it is a quantum construct.

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaah

so many things wrong with the math here

    1) a limit can never equal infinity. If a limit approaches infinity (technically: diverges) then the limit does not exist
    2) Even if you ignore #1 that limit wouldn't exist because it approaches either +infinity or -infinity depending on which direction you approach 8 from. And the definition of a limit for real numbers requires that the limit be the same regardless of direction.

yeah but in standard calc you totally write limits as if they = infinity or -infinity

Actually I could probably solve something like this but I don't have the right tools and fuck trying to map it out in my brain because, again, stupid.

well, no you can't. In common english you can. It is usually understood as a sloppy shorthand for "limit does not exist". But in no form of rigorous mathematics is that acceptable.

are they? it strikes me more as someone weary after years of being exposed to game communities for mmos and the like knowing that most players don't know what the fuck they want or even if they did, they want something that would be bad for them, and having to answer questions along the vein "why don't you do this" again and again

Since coming back to wow, I have found that it is the current popular meme in general chat, and yep, that is about the appropriate quality.

I'll post my solution later, with pictures.

Since it is possible there are infinite solutions, but I think mine is fairly elegant.
