    What's apricot balls
and DANG the third UB is kicking my ass.

Apricorn balls are the not-very-well-thought-out variant pokeballs from Gen II. You could get pokemon in them by transferring from HGSS, and there's one of each in SuMo as nostalgia, I guess.

They are the only thought out balls aside from "a Steven Stone did it", though.

I mean mechanically. Like the fast ball that's good against Tangela, Grimer and Magnemite, no-one else. Or the moon ball that's literally no better than a pokeball. Even with the bugs fixed they're all worse ideas than the gen III ones.

The Raichu was completely kicking my ass. I was completely caught off guard that fucking Raichu can use Psychic? I don't have anything anti-electric at the moment. I have some anti-psychic, but sheesh.

    That Alolan form is weird.
Setting aside the fact that it looks like it should have Levitate, gaining a psychic type when at least two other Kanto mons went dark seems bad. Training Raichu-A in a world full of Raticate-As with Sucker Punch is not fun.

Wow, getting a Mareanie on Route 9 was an arduous process. 5% chance to find a Corsela and then I still had to go through multiple SOS calls before she finally showed up.

It might pay off when fully upgraded and breeding your final generation to get that hexaperfect mon just because you're working in parallel, but I don't think it's worth it for previous generations just because you're constantly refining the parents every handful of eggs and the hot springs will just ruin the turn around time for your early generations.

I think you're right. I had dropped some in the other night thinking they'd be hatched by the time I woke up. They weren't, so I tried again last night with beans. Still no luck, I'd have expected that several hours would've been sufficient but that doesn't seem to be the case. At this point I just put them there if I have an excess or as mentioned when I'm going to sleep so at least something gets done, although it doesn't appear to be much

Is it upgraded? I think that the hatching rate boosts alongside capacity. Hatching some eggs in a few hours when maxed. The time per egg is dramatically improved when you divide by 18, especially since you can conventionally hatch 5 eggs like normal while the batch of 18 is cooking.

The long turn around time just makes it bad in the earlier generations of a breeding project.

So I see the fully upgraded version being useful in a few cases :
1: casually hatching the occasional egg just for duplication purposes, but you don't want to spend any time working to hatch them yourself. Perhaps just to get a few extra copies of the species for accumulating a living dex or exchange copies with friends. It would be a good way to mass produce boxes of popular pokemon like evees and starters for those Christmas wonder trade giveaways.
2: breeding the final generation in search for a hexaperfect pokemon.
3: bulk breeding to get a shiny via the masuda method.

I have it at level 2 currently. I don't think I could collect 18 eggs to put into the isle without hatching the majority of them. Currently just riding enough to generate the eggs has me almost constantly at 1 or 2 in my party.

So Chinchou is apparently fishable on Route 8, with 1% chance normally, but 20% if it's bubbling, but I keep leaving and returning and have not seen a bubbling spot even once

...Actually, I'm in a good spot now. Thankfully I've maxed the playground island so I can use that for EVs until I get power items rolling. Does pokerus apply to the island? I need to contaminate some pokemon and spread the love... I think I may send a batch of infected Cyndaquils into the wonder trade wilds...

Pokerus is just having a fight with it in your party to spread, right? Is it percentage or...?

I'm at the point where I'd really appreciate a pokemon with pokerus!

I think it may take more than one battle potentially to spread it. IIRC it spreads to adjacent pokemon in your party, so if you put one in the 4th slot it gets spread to 3rd and 5th after a couple battles.

Seems like a lot of the new mons are only two stage. It's a shame because they end up with base stat totals of 450~480 instead of the ~530+ most of the competitive ones will have. I wonder how many will actually have an impact in the meta.

That said I'm still on the second island so I guess I'm still at the weaker early mons stage of the game.

I've noticed something strange throughout playing Pokemon Sun on an original 3DS XL. There will be times that, for seemingly no reason at all, a text box will show up blurry, as if 3D was turned on or something. Has anyone else experienced this? It's reproducible too. Say if it happens when you talk to a NPC, the same text box will have the blurriness.

Probably an issue with 3d settings. I hope it gets patched.

On a different note, I got to the Acerola trial.

I'm a way behind everyone, but kind of surprised as to how many times people seemed to say that the Trial Captains were no walk over in this and give the fire totem as an example that messed them up. Like the game forces you to encounter an insanely strong water type multiple times in a row in the preceding section. I can only assume they were square pegging this round hole as they had their team sorted and weren't changing for no-one.

That's really interesting to see. Of course flying and water are the only "complete" ones, there are so many of those dang mons.

And also understandable that normal is one of the least complete. Even less than fairy! It makes sense because "normal" really lost its identity after gen 1. Like what would be the point of a normal bug or normal ice creature. What the heck would a normal steel look like?

Cyborg Rattata. Robatta. I've had this idea since Gen II.

EDIT: Beated just a few post down, but I'm still proud of this idea.

I remember reading something about exploding trees not from Earthbound and thinking that could be a good idea for a Grass/Fire Pokémon.

The Manchineel could be worked as a fire/grass poke.

"All parts of the tree contain strong toxins, some unidentified.[4] Its milky white sap contains phorbol and other skin irritants, producing strong allergic dermatitis.[5] Standing beneath the tree during rain will cause blistering of the skin from mere contact with this liquid (even a small drop of rain with the milky substance in it will cause the skin to blister). The sap has also been known to damage the paint on cars.[6] Burning the tree may cause ocular injuries if the smoke reaches the eyes.[7] Contact with its milky sap (latex) produces bullous dermatitis, acute keratoconjunctivitis and possibly large corneal epithelial defects.[8]"
