Ask him about the Illidan match where I accounted for half of our 30esque kills and still got shit from a Nazeebo with like 3 kills, 6k less experience, and more deaths more than me.
Yeah, I was just talking about this with my roommate. For good or bad, Metzen has been the mastermind of all of Blizzard's storytelling for the last 20 years or so.
I know a lot of people like to dog on Metzen for telling big dumb stories. He is accused of being the Michael Bay of game writers. But you know what? I love Blizzard's games. All of them. Even with their big dumb stories.
Without Chris Metzen at the helm, there will almost certainly be a major tonal shift in all future storytelling. And like him or not, Metzen has been a major part of Blizzard's success story.

Apparently if you get the Warcraft movie Blu-ray you also get Gul'dan in HotS. You also get Medivh in Hearthstone.
Not worth it for me, but I know some folks in this thread enjoyed the movie, so there you go!

michael bay moves units, and that's what you need to get a game company off the ground
Excluding their old console games, which barely had any stories in them at all, Chris Metzen's resume is basically all of Warcraft except for WC1, all of Starcraft, and a big part of Diablo 3. I honestly don't know how much he has been involved in Overwatch, but I think a fair bit.
There's actually a pretty honest, candid video of him talking about his career with Blizzard in one of the "making of" videos for Overwatch or something. I'll see if I can dig that one up and post it. It's a good watch.

iirc the main input he had in Overwatch was forcing them to include his OC from college (76)

it's not a one to one comparison, but I feel more or less the same way about lucas giving up star wars--appreciate what he did to plant the seeds, but optimistic about what other people will do with it as it grows.
With Medivh you have to know how to make good use of your portals and your team needs to use them. Doesn't do much by himself. Like, you can be very useful to scout with your bird form but if your teammates don't make good use of that info then it's pointless.
Yeah I've been playing too much WoW to actually find five people to even complete TL placements. Maybe I will try this week after the new thing starts. TL gathering up the team and draft and game takes so long though. OW games are far shorter when I want a break from WoW.
I just used /teamleague
It was, and almost certainly still is, full of people just looking for 4 other warm bodies to fill a team to finish placements.
They both have a bit of the same issue in that they are a bit hard to QM with because Auriel isn't the best solo support for alot of comps and Medivh is basically a support but is classified as a specialist. But Auriel is better on this front even then.
Both have some high skill ceiling and are fun.
Medivh really shines with a coordinated team but even on your own you can totally harass like a motherfucker with Q and portals and use your shield to save people all over the place.
Auriel you just gotta be aware tends towards snowballs one way or the other in my experience since often if the fight is going bad for you, you don't have any energy and can't heal so the fight goes even worse for you. And if the fight is going well for you you have unlimited energy and can heal all over the place and often steamroll the other team. So be prepared for alot of that.

They're both pretty fun in my limited experience. Medivh definitely has a higher skill requirement, though. Auriel isn't easy, either, but if you want to be an impactful Medivh you really need to be able to hit those skills on a dime, especially the shield.
Ask him about the Illidan match where I accounted for half of our 30esque kills and still got shit from a Nazeebo with like 3 kills, 6k less experience, and more deaths more than me.
So, I told everyone it was my promo game and it was like people put on their big boy pants and came out to fucking play. Chat was super focused and positive, nobody bitched about picks or taking support/tank. And the game was a straight stomp - we came out with a win on BoE in under 9 minutes.
I'm tempted to just say that all my games are promo games, if that's how people react. =P
For those who are curious, I started at Silver 2, and it took me 79 games, with a record of 54-25, to get to Platinum. The biggest problem I ran into was that I went on a short losing streak (we're talking 4 games or something) and that caused me to drop down a tier in Gold, which then forced me to play a ton of games to get back through the promo. So if you're wondering how hard it is, there's a pretty steep requirement in terms of the number of games, but it's doable if you average roughly a game per day during the course of a season (assuming you have a decent winning percentage).
I'm going to be really glad when they get rid of the promo match issue next season, because that makes moving up waaaaayyy easier.
They first pick Li-Ming
My team first picks .... Hammer/Tassadar
And that was gg right there.
They went Falstad/Chromie and destroyed us.
They were top 4 damage the whole game with me on Anub'arak in 5th spot.
Le sigh
Sounds to me like the Hammer/Tassadar have been watching PPL and high-tier games - trying to emulate the pros, maybe? Hammer is very strong right now at high MMR and pairs well with Tassadar (hell, that duo is in a PPL game I'm watching right now on Chu's stream and winning), but your team has to be on board to build around it AND it doesn't help to take early in an HL draft allowing the enemy team plenty of room to counter you.
Apparently if you get the Warcraft movie Blu-ray you also get Gul'dan in HotS. You also get Medivh in Hearthstone.

Are they going to be on cards or such?
As I can give my brother the Gul'dan card and keep the medivh?
I have Gul'dan but I kind of benched him in favor of Li ming/Lunara
Chris Metzen should be recognized for all of the great work he's done over the years. He's had such a tremendous impact on the world of gaming, and I absolutely respect him and his contributions to many of the franchises I love and have grown up with. Having said that, the dude's been the punchline for every joke about Blizzard written in the past decade. He only knows how to write one story, and he's been writing it since he was 20 years old. I'm sad to see him go, only in the sense that he's such an iconic and recognizable figurehead. But, if I'm being honest, I haven't been this excited about what the future might hold since Margaret Thatcher died.
Ugh, just wanted to make it to Diamond. I'm like 8 games in and barely moved towards getting that promo match.
le sigh
Finally get my promo match just as the servers shut down. The game started but my team was dogshit from beginning to end. And then when the game ended, it just kicked me straight to the login screen anyway, so it probably didn't matter anyway.
They won at lv 18 vs L5 at 16 after a team wipe with Leo the only one dead.
At 18 they went straight mid lane, took out the keep, and into core. Somewhat close as most of L5 started spawning at 20% core and they got one kill on li ming but it wasn't enough.
Going core so early with keeps up and three warriors was impressive.

I wish I knew this even just a week ago, ended this season with 0 TL games played. Oh well.

Oh okay, that makes sense then. I'm not usually online until like 1 because I'm a lazy bastard who sleeps late
This is absolutely the time for a post-game "Great win we got there!" message.

hoh shit, I may have to pick that up
mostly because hearthstone jaina is white hair jaina and I'm not about that, medivh is cool
michael bay moves units, and that's what you need to get a game company off the ground
he must've moved up by the time WoW was happening though, right? and that was really the big hit

no, diablo 2 and starcraft were two of the biggest games ever and they predated wow by quite a bit

When the Smithsonian museum of Art had their "Art of Videogames" display they had a sketch book from Blizz. You can see Metzen's design of Kerrigan.

I'm gonna miss Chris Metzen being the Blizzcon Hype Man
Nothing gets me more fucking pumped then watching Green Jesus himself walk out on stage and just going nuts
Battle.net Tag: Dibby#1582
he has a writing credit on almost everything except for orcs and humans and diablo 2
he is/was the lore guy and one of the key artists in the early days
He did good lord buy his story writing was never good.
Regardless, he'll be missed as a personality if nothing else.
At least she didn't have friggin high heels back in 97. These days though.... sigh...

I haven't played with anyone from pa since Legion dropped i think, are you sure was me? Not saying it wasn't, my memory is crap sometimes.

Still, very annoying.
Mvp black vs L5
MVP black first picked mura on shrine map, and last picked Leo.
This was vs a team of falstad, etc, thrall, zera, uther.
Woo Leo!!!
