"Mario's just a tiny hairy man, Bowser will roast him with a single fireball"
The only reason Mario doesnt get served as a three course meal is because the Princess asked Bowser to be nice. She left that poor plumber for a giant turtle after all.
If King of the Monsters ends up being as Apocalyptic as it looks and creates this roaring hellscape status quo that capitalizes on the idea that humanity is a temporary resident of a world walked by gods, I am really curious what they're going to end up doing to make King Kong vs. Godzilla feel like it makes sense
I watched the first part of the Netflix Godzilla series. It's pretty good! I like how in a lot of ways it's just an anime sci-fi movie, but it's also relentless about its Showa-era Godzilla aesthetics for certain elements (like all aliens just being humans with particular hairstyles or makeup, and the musical cues of the space military preparing to launch basically sounding like the JSDF)
I do really like the idea of a big dramatic buildup shot like the first fire breath in 2014 that ends with him getting punched just before he lets it off.

I figure it'll be like, Godzilla and Kong are grappling, Godzilla charges up but at the last second Kong manages to redirect the blast, so we got a shot of Kong grimacing and screaming as the atomic breath is blasting right by his face.
I just don't like King Kong! He's a big lame ape!
Moreover, he got killed by a handful of planes in his first outing, because King Kong is a victim of the foibles fears and technology of modern human civilization. King Kong's tale is one of tragedy because for all of his imposing size and fearsome appearance, he is just a very large ape and a product of nature, and the brutal creations of humanity have subjugated nature.
Godzilla is not the victim of us, we are the victims of Godzilla. Godzilla may be the product of the acts of humankind, and is ultimately dispatched by the products of humankind, but Godzilla comes as an unstoppable personification of divine wrath. The only way in which Godzilla is quelled is through the invocation of terrible knowledge and human sacrifice. Godzilla is not so much a product of nature as Godzilla is a force of nature, and a reminder that humanity is still subject to nature.
This is why I'm kind of fundamentally opposed to making King Kong "awesome", or capable of defeating Godzilla. Him being a threat to Godzilla just is at odds with everything he is.

Only if he sees Kong coming. Kong was very good at sneaking around during Skull Island.
I swear to God(zilla) this argument is the one true reason for the internet's existence.

There's multiple times where he comes into frame with absolutely no loud stomping noise, and actually surprises people.
Godzilla, who operates at that scale, would have an even harder time noticing him than a tiny human.

what if kong pilots mechagodzilla like a gundam
Zilla-Buster
He got killed in Final Wars already.
I despise you
Listen God-Buster is too extreme and the whole name would have been too cumbersome

Alligator vs gorilla isn't really a fair match, even without the gator having atomic breath
It takes a few seconds for Godzilla to charge up, so Kong could just punch him in the face or get him in a headlock or something.
Or a Stone Cold Stunner!
Its sight gag, forced perspective to trick you into thinking it is.

Maybe not defend, but get help from humans who prefer death by giant gorilla to giant lizard.
Pretty sure it worked out okay in Rampage.
