That's some odd logic, there are already far more quests then your followers can manage and it's difficult to impossible for some classes to have say the bodyguard they want and still cover the various hazards that pop up.
Which is the point. You're meant to not be able to complete all missions, you're meant to be picking and choosing and having to let some missions expire instead of doing them. If they raised the follower cap, they'd have to offer more missions to maintain that.
Just makes the system clunky and frustrating to manage. With the need to have as many hazards covered as possible...just in case because you've got such a hard limit on actually changing the roster.
Even worse if you have a combat ally assigned.

I actually find you rarely need to cover all the hazards. If you want to 200% a mission, you'll usually need to counter any Cursed hazards, to enable bonus rolling, but it's been pretty easy to get 100% on a mission even with only one or even none of the hazards countered.

I'm not a fan of the design. IMO at the very least, there should be a "Combat Ally" spot that doesn't count towards the overall limit. As of right now I'm not bothering to use one because it wastes a follower slot that could be doing missions for me, and every mission is like 12hr or longer (seriously, the "increase success on missions less than 4h" follower items are USELESS. There are almost no missions this short!)

Agree with that much, I don't use a combat ally on my DH because loltank, but I get a lot of use out of Koltira on my Frost DK, and it's annoying not being able to use him for missions sometimes.

The dh ones are both dps, wouldn't you want the extra as a tank and yeah the dk one stings particularly because he's got the 20% less mission time effect.

EDIT: Also, and they aren't both DPS, I don't think. One of them is Belath Dawnblade, who is Vengeance-specced. The other is Shade of Akama. And I dunno, if I was going to have a bodyguard, I'd rather it be another demon hunter or nobody, really.
oh also i recalled earlier someone was asking why the spriest dagger refers to the emerald nightmare as yogg-saron's nightmare, when it's generally understood to be the work of n'zoth, and the answer to that is that yogg-saron was the old god who first discovered the emerald dream even though he wasn't the main workhorse
If people ask for gear and I don't need it I'll give it to them, but honestly if someone puts on their fanciest douchebag suit and demands anything, I will do anything to make them miserable.
I generally give away gear unprompted - I check people's overall ilvl early on in the run and if anyone is notably less geared than me and shares my armor class, whenever something nice drops I always check their character pane to see what they have in that slot. If it's an upgrade I just hand it to them. Lots of people don't yet know you can trade gear because it's a relatively new concept.
That said, there's also a surprising amount of people who don't seem to realize you can only trade the gear if it's not an upgrade.
I did LFR last night and someone had an add on which stated who could trade their drop and who it was an upgrade for, pretty cool.

I love the trash talking the dagger does about the legion.

It's a cool addon, but also kind of dickish since it calls people out who may not want to trade or it may be a side-grade for. I use it, but it doesn't publicly announce things for me, it just tells me what I can and can't trade.
beyond don't bother, anyone got any advice for running a spriest in 5mans (hc/ mythic)? my first attempt since cata was a hot mess last night. most suggested talent set ups seem to be raid-focused. also, attempting to multi-dot packs is a ballache, is it worth the effort?
with a bit of thought into which four followers you have active for missions (assuming you want a combat ally 100% of the time) it should be pretty easy to get all the counters covered. There's only what, like four? And for most missions you don't need to counter them all anyway
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

It's also nothing NEAR as complex as garrisons. I can't have a single complaint about missions this time around. I almost feel like they are to useful still.
There are 8 total followers. Not a difficult puzzle to solve to pick 5.
The problem with missions for me is the difficulty ramps up far too quickly. I upgraded two of my guys to ilevel 800 and now I am getting mainly 810-830 missions. Including that raid mission which looks really good but I cant do it.
Vashj was sent to meet Illidan because he basically put out an arcane APB to anyone who hated night elves, and the naga answered. She likely went at the behest of Azshara, but based on your interactions with them in the demon hunter campaign, it feels like their time in Outland basically superseded that particular allegiance, especially since vashj died and the rest may not have been as devoted. Pretty sure there are some coilskar in Magister's Terrace as well, which means that when Kael'thas betrayed Illidan to join the Legion, some of them joined him, too.

Multidot is probaby your life.
It will get better once you get to mythic+ where mobs live for 30+ seconds.
I don't think mind sear is buffed enough yet?
And I guess timing insanity right so it maximises potential.
Spriests do well in multi target raid environments so I think they may he similar to warlocks: not enough burst for speed runs but once fights get longer they may rise.
Also remember that you can queue healer and set loot prio to shadow. Instant queues and variety.
Personally I haven't used the bodyguard ability of any followers yet, even on my mage. I've needed my followers to counter too many overlapping abilities.
I'm currently running Kalec, Esara, Modera, Meryl, and Vargoth. Millhouse has a dubious bonus, and Ravandwyr and the Arcane Destroyer are nice, but don't cover as well as the others
Random lore speculation: the Shadow dagger statement "her heart is a crater and we have filled it"
Azeroth is too easy as an answer, and doesn't seem to mesh with what else is going on.
What if they are speaking metaphorically as well? Who had everything she loved turned into a crater? The idea you'd want to think it's literal and Azeroth would fit Old God misdirection.

i'm doing the flip side of this, queueing shadow with loot set to disc, since it pays out both dps and healing trinkets. the stat priority on armour seems to be the same for both. basically i don't wanna heal harder dungeons as disc until my gear is better.
First herioc tanking of halls of valor. God the starting trash was terrible. I was terrible. I may have raged into voice chat with bros a bit.
Calmed down. Got back into my grove. God so rusty having to pay attention to trash pulls and losing things and such. My brain got into the normal just run around the room and grab things mode. I feel normals actually made me a worse tank.
But we finished. Only wiped twice at the start, and twice on Odyn because it was the first time on herioc for all of us and there were new mechanics we didn't have down. I will say our clear of the Valkyr lady was gorgeous though. And the Fenryr fight was really well done.
I guess I should just keep tanking heriocs till I know all of them by heart before even attempting mythic. That is how my brain is feeling. And I was at 827 ilevel. I do know my bros are like 810 though.
I will say I felt the nerf to warriors though. I was running through my ignore pains and unable to constantly reapply with the rage nerfs. It hurt way more than I thought it would. I was expecting it to be less noticeable but it seems almost like 20% drop in ignore pain or more. I feel talent that gives rage on my shout is a requirement as it lets me get an early large ignore pain in some fights to tank some early incoming hits I can't do with just charge+slam anymore.
The other dungeon was on my level 100 warlock. I went affliction for my weapon as I use it as a level spec. Dot all the things, clump and finish with aoe. I have been doing this since vanilla and it is super effective and speeds up farming. But I prefer destro for dungeons.
But since I don't have my staff yet I went in with affliction. Man that spec just can't put out what I can on destro. I think maybe I am better at destro which is why. But I feel I do half the dps I do with destro and 3/4 of what I can even do with demo which is my least favorite.

I would do a mythic as dps just to get a view of the whole thing before tanking it. But I need to get some points in that arms weapon right now. But I am less than 700 ap from my second gold on my shield so that is my goal for tonight with world quest.
Find it funny how people are taking the whispers to be truth. Thered be so many corrupted because they wanted to give the evil voices a fair shake.
It's because Blizzard doesn't have a track record for writing characters that deceive you (beyond cartoonish "do this thing, I won't betray you, I swear"), whereas fairly simplistic "cryptic" clues is right in their wheelhouse.
I guess the disconnect for me is that I don't see Il'Gynoth or the dagger as characters. They're vessels purely used to evoke the very particular C'thulhu/Elder One atmosphere and aesthetic that they consistently apply to the old gods.

Yeah but even Fandrel was always a complete dick and I think even in vanilla is was implied he was poisoning Malfurion to keep him in the Emerald Dream

Yeah I have no idea what you mean by this Dhal. Either you only fight minions with sub 1 mil health, or you somehow do more dps than anyone else in the game and kill things in mere seconds.
They add damage. We do not kill bigger mobs very quickly. If you do WQ, you will fight bigger mobs.
Savings seconds is still saving seconds you otherwise wouldn't save.
I'm starting to wonder why they gave followers any sort of threat radius. For example, Nobundo is so random when he shows up, that half the time he's an instant liability by facepulling another 2-3 packs of mobs that would otherwise be standing around. I mean, sure, he heals me while I fix what he fucks up, but he's certainly not helping my cause half the time.
Regarding follower gear items: do they work like Relics; in that they can't be transferred and get destroyed when you replace them?
I guess the disconnect for me is that I don't see Il'Gynoth or the dagger as characters. They're vessels purely used to evoke the very particular C'thulhu/Elder One atmosphere and aesthetic that they consistently apply to the old gods.
I don't really get what you mean. Some characters aren't characters because they're related to old gods?
No, I mean that a boss encounter can be, and often are, used to deliver the atmopshere and aesthetic of the dungeon, and aren't necessarily intended to be characters with any kind of agency. Xavius is a character because while he serves the old gods, he has a pretty clear agenda and actually does things. He actively promotes the atmosphere. Il'gynoth and Xal'atath are props that are used to evoke a certain feel, while not having any agency on their own.

I'm pretty sure xal'atath has an agenda. Certainly has a personality. So does Il'gynoth, not much of one but he does have an agenda and goals.
But even assuming these talking, emoting, goal having props are just that how does that effect the messages they deliver...are you saying everything they say and do is solely to evoke a theme and in no way related to the story?
Il'gynoth feels more like a ravenous mad thing that can't tell the difference between the past and present anymore. After all, it's in the Emerald Nightmare and has been there for who knows how long.
Xal'atath definitely has a personality and an agenda. It's also got a lady voice that I want to talk more often (and while it's in my bags and not equipped please)

Yeah but even Fandrel was always a complete dick and I think even in vanilla is was implied he was poisoning Malfurion to keep him in the Emerald Dream

He doesn't taunt or generate extra threat, Just dps...I find them very useful when I go tank, especially VS rares and boss mobs. Every bit helps.
I don't really get what you mean. Some characters aren't characters because they're related to old gods?
Yeah I have no idea what you mean by this Dhal. Either you only fight minions with sub 1 mil health, or you somehow do more dps than anyone else in the game and kill things in mere seconds.
They add damage. We do not kill bigger mobs very quickly. If you do WQ, you will fight bigger mobs.
Savings seconds is still saving seconds you otherwise wouldn't save.
Regarding follower gear items: do they work like Relics; in that they can't be transferred and get destroyed when you replace them?
Xal'atath definitely has a personality and an agenda. It's also got a lady voice that I want to talk more often (and while it's in my bags and not equipped please)
