First herioc tanking of halls of valor. God the starting trash was terrible. I was terrible. I may have raged into voice chat with bros a bit.
Calmed down. Got back into my grove. God so rusty having to pay attention to trash pulls and losing things and such. My brain got into the normal just run around the room and grab things mode. I feel normals actually made me a worse tank.
But we finished. Only wiped twice at the start, and twice on Odyn because it was the first time on herioc for all of us and there were new mechanics we didn't have down. I will say our clear of the Valkyr lady was gorgeous though. And the Fenryr fight was really well done.
I guess I should just keep tanking heriocs till I know all of them by heart before even attempting mythic. That is how my brain is feeling. And I was at 827 ilevel. I do know my bros are like 810 though.
I will say I felt the nerf to warriors though. I was running through my ignore pains and unable to constantly reapply with the rage nerfs. It hurt way more than I thought it would. I was expecting it to be less noticeable but it seems almost like 20% drop in ignore pain or more. I feel talent that gives rage on my shout is a requirement as it lets me get an early large ignore pain in some fights to tank some early incoming hits I can't do with just charge+slam anymore.
The other dungeon was on my level 100 warlock. I went affliction for my weapon as I use it as a level spec. Dot all the things, clump and finish with aoe. I have been doing this since vanilla and it is super effective and speeds up farming. But I prefer destro for dungeons.
But since I don't have my staff yet I went in with affliction. Man that spec just can't put out what I can on destro. I think maybe I am better at destro which is why. But I feel I do half the dps I do with destro and 3/4 of what I can even do with demo which is my least favorite.
Dungeons with bros are the best! If you want to do a lowkey Mythic, let me know and we can figure something out!
I felt bad getting all cranky. I don't know usually shit doesn't bug me that much and when it does it tends to be some external thing fucking with me.
I would do a mythic as dps just to get a view of the whole thing before tanking it. But I need to get some points in that arms weapon right now. But I am less than 700 ap from my second gold on my shield so that is my goal for tonight with world quest.
HoV is a weird dungeon, in that the 3rd pull, first boss, and 4th pull are the hardest in the game until the final boss.
If you want to warm up, Thicket is really smooth. Eye of Azhara has tricky but different bosses, but the trash is manageable. Neltharion needs some tank knowledge on boss 3/4 but is otherwise straightforward.
Wardens and Maw have mechanic heavy final bosses but are easy otherwise. Rook has nasty trash and easy enough bosses.
Violet Hold is.. Violet Hold. Not very engaging. I feel it's in the game so they could put "10 new dungeons" on the box.
Arcway and Court are mythic only, but neither is very hard. Arcway the Spirits can be a pain, and the run back if you wipe can be really long. Court the final boss is a dps check and if you can't make it the final part is really annoying.
Find it funny how people are taking the whispers to be truth. Thered be so many corrupted because they wanted to give the evil voices a fair shake.
It's because Blizzard doesn't have a track record for writing characters that deceive you (beyond cartoonish "do this thing, I won't betray you, I swear"), whereas fairly simplistic "cryptic" clues is right in their wheelhouse.
The only times they've pulled this off were with trolls:
1. The troll who got you to resurrect Hakkar in Vanilla
2. The troll in Grizzly Hills/Drak'Theron Keep.
But even assuming these talking, emoting, goal having props are just that how does that effect the messages they deliver...are you saying everything they say and do is solely to evoke a theme and in no way related to the story?
There's a difference between characters who are important to a story because they advance the plot and characters who are important to a story because they support the other characters. Those supporting characters are obviously related to the story, but dramatically their purpose is not the story, it's to evoke a theme, or to set themselves against another thing, or to prove something about something else.
For instance, in Hamilton, Peggy is a character who is extremely unimportant to the narrative. ("And Peggy!") But dramatically Peggy has an important purpose in that she represents the general feeling of the populace and of the rest of their family ("Let's not rock the boat"), which serves to set the other two sisters apart from the mainstream opinion. Peggy is clearly related to the story, but her purpose isn't to interact with it, it is instead to augment it.
[EDIT] I'm not saying xal'atath or Il'gynoth are those sorts of characters, just that those characters exist and are commonplace in stories of all types.

That's just the way the old gods stuff is in WoW...and in Lovecraftian fiction, they leak impossible truths. They are impossible Truths.

Ouch, tried out some arena skirmishes last night for the quest. Attempted like 10-15 of them, and I'm still 0/10 on the quest progress.
I don't think I've ever felt more ineffective as a player and a class than those rounds.

Trying to decide what my goals are this expansion. I'm ilvl ~840 for both Prot and Fury and I haven't even really started doing mythic dungeons seriously. Do I want to raid? Not sure yet. If I do, I'm not sure LFR is what I want, I'll probably want to find an actual active guild and raid normal+. I'm enjoying being able to get my character this far basically solo, but I'm feeling that itch to start pressing group content outside of the queue system.

Xavius, normal, felt weird. I don't think we had a single DPS hit 100 corruption in the dream. I'm going out of my way to soak every puddle, stand in meteors, and if I broke 20 corruption I was lucky.
We are clearly doing something wrong, and I think it has to do with the adds we need to intercept or the fact we're stacking the whole raid in Meteor which is splitting the corruption.
I mean, we killed him easily, but it's like, we need these people to hit 100 corruption on Heroic for sure.

What class/spec were you playing as? I went 11-1 with the same 2 randos in like half an hour. I was playing a healer. Pvp can be a little crazy right now if no one peels or uses any cc. 2s is way more unbalanced than 3s is.
I guess the disconnect for me is that I don't see Il'Gynoth or the dagger as characters. They're vessels purely used to evoke the very particular C'thulhu/Elder One atmosphere and aesthetic that they consistently apply to the old gods.
I don't really get what you mean. Some characters aren't characters because they're related to old gods?
No, I mean that a boss encounter can be, and often are, used to deliver the atmopshere and aesthetic of the dungeon, and aren't necessarily intended to be characters with any kind of agency. Xavius is a character because while he serves the old gods, he has a pretty clear agenda and actually does things. He actively promotes the atmosphere. Il'gynoth and Xal'atath are props that are used to evoke a certain feel, while not having any agency on their own.
I'm pretty sure xal'atath has an agenda. Certainly has a personality. So does Il'gynoth, not much of one but he does have an agenda and goals.
But even assuming these talking, emoting, goal having props are just that how does that effect the messages they deliver...are you saying everything they say and do is solely to evoke a theme and in no way related to the story?
It effects their message based on what atmosphere they're trying to convey. If the theme is 'We're very directly borrowing everything from Lovecraft' then I wouldn't put much stock in what they say being true, because those themes are all about cosmic beings driving people to paranoia and insanity by warping their reality.

In normal mode your corruption gradually falls off. Heroic it doesn't, so corruption is much easier to accumulate (for better or worse)

Yeah me either. After awhile I kept a closer eye on my bar, and even after absorbing the pools after Blackened was dispelled in phase 3, my corruption never went up by more than a little, and then would go back down again later.

Holy is the only bad pvp spec for healers. Disc is really durable and can contribute to bursting someone down. Shadow is probably going to require a half decent healer and a competent dps that has good peels.

Grrrr, hate these account-wide raid lockouts that last a week
I need one (1!) more achievement for my Glory of the Icecrown Raider 25 man, and it's the 'Been Waiting A Long Time For This', where you have to bounce Necrotic Plague for 30+ stacks
I have addons that counted it, got up to 36, killed Lich King, and no achievement
now I'm locked out of the raid until next week to try again
Raid lockouts are account wide? So if i have two 110's i can't send them into the same raid over the course of a week?
Raid lockouts are character-specific, but I'm not sure if meta achievement progress for things like glory of the X raider are account-wide, even though the rewards are.
Like if you get half of a meta achievement on one character and half on another, I don't think either character would then earn the meta achievement, though I could be wrong about that.

Completion credit for the metas are account wide but individual completion progress is not I believe. So if you get it, all your characters benefit from the reward. But you can't do bits and pieces on multiple characters.
They're account-wide, however some of them (like 'Once Bitten, Twice Shy' where you have to defeat the Blood Queen while as a vampire, then as NOT a vampire) are only per-character. So you have to do one of each as the same character in order for that achievement to pop, but once it's popped for one character, it's popped for every character on your account.

From what I can gather, blue banner achievements track progress account-wide, and gold banner achievements are character specific.
So if a meta achievement has 11 parts, and a blue banner, you can earn 10 of the achievements on one character, and the last one on another, which would then trigger completion of the meta.
Man I wish I had as easy of a time as you guys are saying on Xavius normal. Maybe I'm not noticing things, or maybe something was explained to me wrong, but I was in a group last night that wiped on him like 5 times and just couldn't get him.
My corruption shot through the roof. Maybe I was missing things, but as a healer, I had to dispel the tank at 4 stacks once and it took me up to like 30 in one shot. After that I went up to 60 in no time flat. I have no idea. I guess I need to watch that fight or get in a better group.

Only sleeping healers should ever be dispelling the debuff.
Pugging xavius is tough since the people who get put to sleep each time are random, so there's no strictly assigning jobs.

Yeah, that's correct.
