Spontaneous Trip to Grand Canyon

My gf and I decided to go visit the Grand Canyon for labor day. I still have to work today so it's going to be an 8 hour drive through the desert in the middle of the night coming from Southern CA so we are gonna need a place to stay. A hotel/inn with breakfast in the morning type of deal. I need help in looking for a room around $150 or so??? Hopefully less because we most likely wont sleep much anyways. Any advice to get me to some cool spots along the canyon? Should I bother going to the visitor center?
Any help is appreciated :)
Also I heard on the radio (NPR I think?) about London Bridge and its whole history up until now. It's should be close to the path I chose so I was thinking of stopping by to take a look.

Look here and hope they have something in your price range and availability

Because otherwise you will be staying by the 40 with an hour drive up to the park with Labor Day traffic

The Grand Canyon is absolutely completely worth it though.

If you're not getting much sleep anyway is there a reason you don't just sleep at a rest stop?

If you haven't seen it, the Grand Canyon is worth a traffic jam the chinese would call inhumane

Yes, I would sit through this to see the Grand Canyon again

Hope you found the lodging you could, otherwise you can check the public land map around the area and as long as you're a quarter mile or so from the road you can camp for free (or so I've been told, so I'd double check this just to be safe).

Or sleep in your car, that's always an option if the car is comfortable enough.
