I got a purple engram along with the Kvhostov design the first time, so I went back thinking it's be a good way to get an occasional purp and have yet to get another purple from it

At least the pilot counts for 3oC
Those gauntlets weren't even an engram. It was a decode on pickup. I keep going back when I get another relay and it's just been blue engrams the last handful of times. I think I just got REALLY lucky.
However, I have used almost 15 3oC on strikes and haven't gotten an Exotic yet. :bigfrown:
The areas you open with them seem to have legendary engrams in the chests about 50% of the time for me. Anecdotal and all. Also useful for getting into in-progress Perfected forge runs when you run across one.
This seems like a pretty wild outlier
I've been using them constantly because of the book, and I don't know if I've seen even a blue engram out of some odd forty chests behind Splicer Keys
If you're just trying to use them for book progress, save them for Archon's Forge. When you die, hit X to respawn and use the Key to get back into the match-in-progress. Archon's Forge events also count as Public Events, so you can be working on What's The Use, Archon's Forge, and Team Player all at the same time. (Not to mention all the engram farming.)
Oh, speaking of What's The Use, has anyone seen these mysterious Isenfyre Tokens yet? Is that a Raid thing?

I'm usually more concerned with actually running Archons Forge when people are there, since ultimately the rewards are pretty nice
Not in a huge rush to finish off the book stuff either, I've got awhile (I did already run enough Forge to get the Forge specific stuff and the public event one done though)
Not a raid spoiler, but I'll spoiler this just in case. It's about light level only.
Everything outside the final encounter is doable with 358-362 light level raiders. The group I was with went in and got all the way to the end while our light level was slightly below or slightly above 360, but nobody was 365.
TL;DR Heroic Strikes to 365, Crucible to 370, save your Exotic Engrams.
I decided I wanted to focus on filling out the book as opposed to leveling up, and while I have a full Days of Iron set, I'm languishing as a mere 350. Looks like it's tons of Heroic Strikes for a while...

At this point the only thing left is hard mode, so I'm guessing it's to do with that.

Raid LL comment
My group was average LL350 or so and we did the opening and spent an hour on the first boss inside before calling it a day. It was definitely do-able at our average LL but the execution needed to be tight. Our best attempt got the boss to ~30% health. I'd definitely recommend LL360 or so.
Please consider the environment before printing this post.
Not looking for raid spoilers or raid-referencing advice, just venting: I don't know what I want my build to be as I gear up and get ready for the raid. My thought going into this expansion was that I'd rock Ruin Wings pretty consistently to constantly feed my Gjally, and that's my current highest LL loadout; but I've also been experimenting with Insurmountable Skullfort and Striker subclass tanking, and I really, really like that I get two melee charges to heal (with Transfusion perk built in). That being said, being in melee range during raids has (historically) been a dangerous and inadvisable strategy (or maybe that's just the case when you're lower LL than recommended, starting out). I guess my third option is Defender with No Backup Plans and an effort to keep my overshield up at all times, to be super tanky... plus I'd have a bubble, in that case. But I really don't want to have to default to Saint-14, because that's boring Year One shit.
I'm leaning towards Striker Titan-ing. I just love to panic smash, and I prefer the grenades, and I love Juggernaut for my frantic run-around-damage-mitigation.

I think a Defender spec with NBP + the Dead Orbit shotgun (partly because its good, partly because its void, which fallen captain shields also are) could be pretty good.

I stayed Striker for almost the entire time we were in the raid.
Non-mechanic just general statement how this raid compares to others:
Way way way more use for short range weaponry than any of the other raids in actual encounters. Not sure that snipers are actually required for everybody all the time.

My Counterbalance/Focus Fire Soulstealer's Claw quickly became my favorite primary for the raid after I upgraded it as an afterthought, since I had 2 items with highest LL in primary slot to infuse with.
Used Focus Fire over Counterbalance because of the added damage and ammo conservation... (Strangely enough, a Soulstealer with Focus Fire, still shoots incredibly fast! So fast, that sometimes I'm unsure if I have it set to Focus Fire or not.) I think it has 693 ammo when full, my Grasp had some ammo issues sometimes.
My final raid loadout was the following.
Soulstealer's Claw (Focus Fire) for all normal mobs
Black Spindle as the Exotic for massive boss damage
Quilim's Terminus for the "reload while on back" perk and for high damage output when out of sniper rounds

I bitched all last year about Warpriest's head movement - after fighting blahblah (first encounter, whatshisname) and seeing how much worse his head-wobbling is during the DPS phases, I'm wondering if the animations are intentional by Bungie to discourage sniping. It would certainly be easier to just rocket everything.

My weapon loadout Sunday (my second run through)
I went Soulstealer since I had a 269 drop from Variks and also used the raid shotgun - bonus Fallen damage. I rounded out my heavy with either the raid rocket launcher (void damage + Fallen damage) or Young Wolf's Howl in the final battles. Both were good against the Captains.

That was my exact thought during that encounter.
Additionally his back thing obscures his silhouette so in the hectic DPS phase it's easy to lock onto that among the chaos of everybody shooting shit at his face.
Before final fight:
Striker
Flashbangs
Armamentarium
Doctrine of Passing (extended mag + rangefinder)
1000 Yard Stare (triple tap + mulligan)
Party Crasher (for Zamboni pt2, not ideal, I plan on using a full auto + replenish Deidris's Retort next time)
Gjallarhorn
Final fight:
Defender
Weapons of Light
Magnetic grenade
Armamentarium
Keystone 01 (high impact scout, full auto, triple tap, zen moment)
Eirene (triple tap + casket mag + replenish)
Gjallarhorn
CoE is dropping up to 365. That is something that I did not know.
Before RoI, I hadn't played since SRL was introduced and had to Google wtf CoE was. Then I remembered I never finished any of the Prison shit and now I feel bad. Thanks for that

...That is a gorgeous roll on the Keystone 01. Call me Smuckers 'cause I'm jelly.
I'm seeing a lot of people put high-RoF Auto Rifles (like Doctrine and SSC) in their Raid loadouts. I don't usually think of that as a PvE archetype, but I guess it's useful now? Looks like my Rangefinder Soulstealer's needs to come out of the vault!
Boss DPS:
Stolen Pride (hand cannon with Explosive Rounds, Hammer Forged, Hidden Hand) - This one was great for killing 1-2 shanks per shot, highly recommend HCs for this raid given how a lot of it is close range fighting
Black Spindle
Surplus Rockets/Raid Rockets
Non-Boss Encounters:
Stolen Pride
Aoife-D (Void, Surplus, Spray and Play, Exp. rounds)
Gjallarhorn
Uggggh, I've basically had to shut myself off from all of my usual Destiny media sources just to preserve the joy of a blind raid this weekend. Must....resist....clicking....spoilers.....
Explosive rounds are probably going to be extra-good for this raid.
You want to try and avoid too many precision kills (DAMN YOU SEEKER BASTARDS!).
Lots of clusters of mobs.
Shanks can't be crit.
Now I really want a good hand cannon or scout with explosive rounds... Any recommendations?
The old Hung Jury had firefly and hidden hand. Dunno if you can still get them but the one I kept is pretty sweet. There was a FWC hand cannon with firefly and luck in the chamber which would (apparently still will) periodically crash your game if you were standing inside the blast radius of the firefly explosion. Can't recall the name and also don't know if you can still get it.
Also I posted up a non-blind raid for Saturday evening and a "Do the various stuff that gets you +light level gear" thingy for Friday night on the100.
Raid loot question:
Is there any known way to farm SIVA cache keys or fragments other than during the raid itself?

I'll probably use the raid auto rifle or scout depending on my mood moving forward.
Also, Booker told me that he's seen HMG w/Surplus through Crucible, so I guess I need to play more pee vee pees since I'd prefer that to a launcher.
