I'd really like for this to be a first-person Alien Swarm/Red Solstice. We'll see how the co-op is.

Hearing regular voices come out of those helmets is like watching a Godard movie. Where is the speaker sound that you hear from every helmeted space marine in every game and trailer? Just make them sound like Dawn of War terminators and you're good.

It's kind of funny that their trailer narrator guy has a better Spess Mehreen voice than the actual Spess Mehreens in-game.

I'm holding off until release and reviews. While I love the 40k's IP in general, something about this so far... hm. Wait and see sounds best.

yea, with the first bits of footage and pitches the developers gave, it really did sound like vermintide in space.
I've changed the title to reflect the new game footage that's been given. if coop is good, hopefully it can be turned around.

and yea, they really really need to work on their voice overs... they don't feel like space marines to me, and they repeat the same line over and over and over. that shit will be annoying.

Dev response from the official forum:
Hello! The squad mate voices have general improvements coming to them before release. With regards to the voice occurrence frequency, they're a bit bugged - our tech priests will be reducing how often you'll hear them.

Game looks sort of okay, some of the sound design I'm fine with and some of it needs work. Even as someone who cares less about the lore, I'm bummed about how paper-thin they've made Terminator armor look. I also watched that gameplay bit for thirty seconds and already heard voice lines repeat, so that's terrible!

I'll wait and see on this one. The quality of Warhammer games these days is so wildly up and down since they've started handing out the license to anyone with a few thousand bucks and a development company

Now THAT is how storm bolters and an assault cannon should sound like. Storm bolters should sound like you're firing miniature cannonballs and assault cannons like an A-10 Warhog minigun throwing out an impossible amount of shredding rounds.

This should have been a third person game imo.

Would have suited the game a bit better.

Not feeling the hud and such not sure why.

This is the best strategy for all things Warhammer lately. I'm not sure how GW determines which developers/publishers it deigns worthy to partake in the Holy Licensing Rites, but it seems to involve a dartboard.

I'm assuming the stuff we're seeing now has been in development for a bunch of years. We'll see how GW goes ahead with their new CEO. They already yanked the boardgame license back from Fantasy Flight.

Which is a shame, because FFG did really great games... but they also make miniature games now (including X-Wing) so they're probably seen as actual competition now.

The weekend multiplayer beta last week told me absolutely nothing about the game that isn't already in gameplay videos. It was literally just one multiplayer stage and no single player, they really didn't let us do much of anything.

You can pretty easily find footage of it on the youtubes being as how Russians tend to treat things like NDAs and copyright as more of a suggestion, but as to how much of what's in the video will be live I couldn't remotely guess until we see the preorder beta come online. That solo gameplay video looks pretty par though.

I will say that you'll love how the apothecary heals teammates, provided they polish it up a bit more.

This cant be too hard of a formula to fail with:

    [ X ] Wear terminator armor
    [ X ] Purge Xeno Filth
    [ X ] Praise the Emperor
    [ ] Has enough Dakka

I mean that's a solid 3 of 4 critical aspects for making this game successful

Also GW is making their own boardgames again, so yeah, nakes sense they parted ways.

I still maintain that GW diversifying into videogames so much lately is not only because hey, revenue is great, but also because they are terrified of low cost 3D printers.

Its amazing how many different armies you can have for warhammer fantasy when you just put a piece of paper on a movement tray with what units occupy it and how many.

Eh. I don't think they're making the kind of branding effort you'd expect if they were refocusing their business away from miniatures, although I tend to think they ought to. The only big licensing job they've pulled is with Creative Assembly for the Total War game (which doesn't even tie into what's going on in their tabletop game), and I guess Dawn of War 3 although that's really continuing an existing series. Aside from that they got somewhat lucky with Vermintide and maybe did okay with the Battlefleet Gothic game. Deathwing is coming from the guys who made EYE Divine Cybermancy, not really a household name, and everything else seems to be mostly under the radar. I don't really know that their videogame strategy isn't still "license IPs to anyone who asks and see what sticks."

I'm kind of surprised they haven't made some kind of free-to-play mobile game to squeeze money out of whales. They're constantly releasing new models, rulebooks and fiction, so there's already a steady content stream for them to work off of.

They've been going nuts lately, throwing their franchises at whatever genres they can. I don't think they're refocusing but they are definitely diversifying.

As a result, they've gained (I'm a assuming a considerable number of) fans like myself, who enjoy the universe and lore/fluff, but don't have the time, interest, or (most likely) money required to get into tabletop miniatures. I've given them money going as far back as Vengeance of the Blood Angels, money they wouldn't have gotten from me if they hadn't branched out.

There will come a time when a lot of people will be looking at deciding between spending $50 on a pack of five minis or spending a couple bucks on raw materials to print a set themselves. Right now low cost 3D printers don't have the resolution required for decent repros at that size, but within a few years I'll bet they will. If you're a hardcore fan a $100-$200 printer would pay for itself before too long, especially if you went in on it with a few friends.

I've never really gotten the feeling that these games are the results of GW's efforts. It's always seemed more like the developers or publishers are the ones approaching them to make a MOBA, a twin-stick shooter, a chess game, etc. If a game is lucky it might have a teaser from GW and that's the extent of the marketing push; I don't think any effort is made to tie anything into current releases. I feel like if this was an actual strategy from them they'd advertise these games more on their website, and there'd be in-house commitment to some titles that can support a broad, long term content stream -- a cashgrab mobile game, a MOBA, an electronic card game, things like that. I know someone made a MOBA for them, but without a spigot of GW material it doesn't really have much going for it. Their 40K MMORPG isn't doing well, right?

The first Space Hulk computer game was how I got into 40K (actually Space Hulk and then 40K). It is a field with a ton of growth potential, they just seem astonishingly lackadaisical about it.

GWs minis are pretty insane these days in terms of quality and detail.

I think it might take a bit before affordable 3D printers are making stuff like this:

3D printers won't be doing that anytime soon, but they shouldn't have any trouble with what the average mini looks like out of the box:
