I want to imagine that they just look at each other and go "So... corruption?" "Yeah, sounds good"

"i'm not corrupt, it is you that is corrupt!"

Our good buddy Illiam Daniel Stormrage has been both corrupted and reverse corrupted.

I am not sure which corruption will win in this expansion.

He nailed the Warhammer 40k aesthetic better than Games Workshop could.

look, I love the dude's stuff too, but come on

Yeah, Metzen is more Battletech than 40k, imo. More ass kicking heavy metal, less high gothic ornamentation.

I bet this is baked into the culture of the company enough that we totally see someone "corrupted" or near enough in whatever their next post-Metzen story is

Talking about the metzen stuff with a friend made me realize I was way behind on WoW lore.

Part of the conversation basically went like this.

"I heard Sylvanas is leader now, how'd that happen"
"She took up the mantle after Vol'jin died, he asked her"
"Wait Vol'jin was leading the horde when'd that happen"
    "He was after Garrosh"
    "Wait,.. Garrosh?"

(keep repeating basically til you get to the decades old Lore that I actually knew)

I know. That doesn't mean that Metzen's art is the same style as 40k's though.

Dang, I guess those happened recently?

Sylvanas is the best tho, so that's yet another reason it sounds like I'll have to get Legion once I have time.

Garrosh took over in Cataclysm, which was...6 years ago? Vol'jin at the end of Mists, which was about 3 years ago.

Read back through Diablo stuff. Can I just run a game set in Sanctuary?

It's more divergent evolution really, Metzen's art would fit in perfectly alongside art in 1st edition rogue trader.

I'm honestly surprised we never got more Warcraft , there are expacs of WoW that would be stupid fun as an RTS campaign. Especially the more Hero party type stuff they did at the end of 3.

Tho lots of potential for old school style warcraft rts-ing too.

Chris Metzen was real good at designing worlds and the outlines of characters, but as soon as character depth became important, you could kind of tell most of the interesting parts were on the surface. I'm not saying I hate the guy, I think he did a very good job in early stages of Blizzard (and is a big reason the Diablo franchise took off, and thus, Blizzard itself) but I also think it was time for some new blood. Comic books that hold onto one lead author for that long start to get stagnant, I don't see why video games would be any different, the industry is just a bit young, yet.

I'd love to see him come back in 15~ years and design a new IP, after he's had time to kind of cool off current projects and let things mull around for a bit to get fresh ideas.

Andy Chambers the man who deisgned the tyranids for 40k was also a big part of StarCraft
