In-depth deck construction rules for the players:
Make sure you've got all your decks ready to go by Thursday. For the Ladies only decks, the approved cards are in the spoiler below:
Once you've done that, jump on over to Hearthhead's Arena Practice page. Pick your favorite of the 3 offered classes. Remember, this will be the ONLY class you'll get for all 3 decks, so choose carefully.
Now you'll begin creating your first deck. There are some guidelines here to observe since you'll be recreating these decks in Constructed:
You can only select a maximum of 2 copies of the same card per deck, or 1 Legendary
If you're offered a card you don't have in your collection, PM me to find a suitable replacement (suggestions from your collection will help me)
In the rare chance you're offered 7 copies of one card, PM me to find a suitable replacement (suggestions from your collection will help me)
Your first deck is set in stone! No changing it!
Create 2 decks from the rejected 60 cards
Honor system here! Don't reroll if you get a bum draft
I'd recommend practicing your draft first to get a good feel for it
The site can be buggy at times. Most notably is that it will only offer the same 3 class choices when you go to the page or cards won't show up with pictures while drafting. Sometimes you can workaround by doing a fast draft, then click on the "Choose another class" link for 3 fresh choices. If that doesn't work, try back later or clear your cache/cookies. Worse case scenario, I'll PM you 3 random classes to choose from.
If you're getting the bugged card choice, which looks like one or more cards without artwork and only a colored boarder. If that happens, take a screenshot and choose a card. When the draft is complete, you'll see the rejected card choices and be allowed to exchange that card with the one of the other card choices if you want.
Finally, take a screenshot of your final cards, both selected and rejected. You'll find it at the bottom of the final draft page shown here:
I'd also recommend taking pics of your Lady decks and draft decks and PM them to me. Remember that there is a prize for best or most unique deck created!

Yeah, me too. That was a cool deck. I dunno how much we'll ever see of it again unless they add a very strong neutral heal to the game.
We won't. The molten nerf saw to that.
I don't know that it's the molten nerf so much that the game is way too fast right now. Handlock's whole powerful thing was tap, tap, Twilight drake, tap Mountain Giant for some crazy early game tempo and value. But against current zoo and midrange decks you just die if you try to do that, and without strong neutral heals handlock has no way to stabilize; moltens are part of that, certainly, but the deck was already hugely on the decline before the nerf.
That's definitely true, but fast decks have always been around and handlock has had varying success against them.
The big thing though is that because of the molten giant nerf you can't even play handlock in Wild. That's the real shame to me, because Wild is supposed to be for playing old decks that were fun but have rotated out.

I often wonder if I should create a Reddit account to post my card creations there.
it's nice for getting a few pats on the back here and there mostly
but as always with people on the internet there's a few daft people to deal with as well
I generally find the conversations on r/custommagic more interesting, but you need to know magic for that (also there's some real stick in the muds over there)

Talking about the nerfs, Reynad discusses why he think Shaman will be stronger post patch.
I'm still not convinced. Part of why Midrange Shaman is so good is its super strong early game, which took a pretty serious hit here. I think slower decks will be more able to keep up with it now, and with other aggro reduced might start to creep back onto ladder.
As always, I'm very hesitant to predict what effect a number of balance changes will have, because when they nerf more than 1 or 2 cards it usually takes a month or two to see the long lasting repercussi
edit: The other thing is he says Druid et al. need Yogg to stabilize against Shaman, but it seems like very little experimentation has been done with Baron Geddon (even Control Warriors aren't running it right now o_O), who can single handedly win games against midrange Shaman. Makes me wonder if we'll see that experimented with.

Geddon is decent against steak, but he's an oversized flame imp in the face of trogg, spirits, golem, and thing.

The oppressive shaman start isn't rockbiter so much as a board centered around totem golem and to a lesser extent trogg.
It's true, but Rockbiter as 1 mana removal and Tuskarr Totemic are also really important for snowballing from those cards.

I hit 5 on the back of Tempo Mage. Huge streak up to 6 as I was killing off a ton of Shaman and then did the grind thing until 5 against other Tempo Mages. I didn't think I'd do it this season. Now I just need a gold Call of the Wild to dust.

For all the hate on Warrior's power level, I think it and Mage are by far the most thematic and well designed classes. Both can play the whole gamut of archetypes and have very unique cards.

Finley and Elise are both cards I will be overjoyed to see leave Standard. Elise less so now since there's fewer control vs. control games that turn into clown fiestas because of her, but I still hate her design.

The oppressive shaman start isn't rockbiter so much as a board centered around totem golem and to a lesser extent trogg.
And rolling a Totem Golem/Mana Tide/Flametongue for almost-free on turn 3.
I think the Tuskarr change is a much bigger hit to shaman than rockbiter, but I'm just not sure how much. Midrange shaman doesn't need Tuskar to roll totem golem or flametongue or whatever. It's a perfectly fine card summoning basic totems and it still buffs Thing from Below.
Aggro shaman probably doesn't care about Tuskarr anymore (and maybe Thing as a result) but midrange is the strong list right now anyway.
Elise and Finley have nothing on Justicar Trueheart.

They used to be in a couple decks, yeah. Do you mean that now the meta is slow enough to see certain cards get played?
