DS Games to Bring

MattyPMattyP Registered User regular
edited June 2007 in PAX Archive
Just as a thought, what games will everyone be bringing for their DS? Just want to make sure I bring games that others will actually play with me. Here's a list of games I plan to bring:

Starfox Command (6 player fights, single card :D)
Mario Kart DS
Metroid Prime: Hunters

Games I am considering on taking, if enough people will bring it as well:

Pokemon Diamond (Maybe Pearl too, if I feel like picking it up after finishing Diamond)
Mario Hoops 3 on 3
Lostmagic

On a somewhat-related note, my DS' touch screen is broke, and I forgot where I put the receipt from when I bought it D:. The only thing that's wrong with it is that between the center and half way between the center and the right side, the touch screen is misaligned. I causes major goof-ups when playing games that require precision with the touch screen. I'm pretty sure it was doing this before I put a screen protector on it, but I don't want to take it off to find out. :P

I plan on bringing Pokemon Pearl, and probably just the entirety of my DS collection, which includes the first two you mentioned (Star Fox Command and Mario Kart DS).

Also, Brain Age for any Sudoku cravings I may receive, and Elite Beat Agents.

Im thinking about picking up the new pokemon game. I remember really liking red, yellow, and silver when they came out. However there are two problems. 1) I want to be sure that I can get a nice challenge when I go to PAX. 2) The new pokemon look a bit too cutsie for my tastes.

Also I may pick up something else if I see alot of people will bring it or something gets really good reviews. (Although spore wont be out yet D: )

Do GBA games work through the DS wireless for multiplayer? I've never tried that yet, but would be interested in some Super Puzzle Fighter 2 if someone's got it.

I love how many people had DS's last year. If you didn't have one when you showed up for PAX, you had two ort three by the time you left. I didn't because everywhere I went they were fucking sold out.

    Mario Cart
    EBA
    Tetris
    Starfox
    Metios

First, I'm going to show people my Pokemans. Being last year was lag-filled due to how many people had DS's, having a turned-based game probably will be good.
I'll also bring along some Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters and Tetris.
Things I'll be looking forward to others bringing Jump Super/Ultimate Stars and Bleach, since I am reluctant (in part due to price) to import anything.

Bomberman was a hoot in last years' line. There were also a lot of Tetris and Mario Kart matches. So I'll bring those three games.
Sega Casino has single-card multiplayer. It'll be easier to use that than to bring chips. Play some poker.
I'll also bring Advance Wars, but the battles are too long in that.
Oh yeah, and Brain Age to wake me up in the morning, and for Sudoku.

Ah, Tetris, the one game I didn't seem to pick up for some reason. Seeing as how it was just payday... *zips to Futureshop*

    Also...
The new pokemon look a bit too cutsie for my tastes.

I'd say it's about half, quarter, and quarter. Half of them are fairly cute (one place you can only go in with a "cute" pokemon, which is a pretty small list), a quarter of them are pretty ugly (Purugly...lol), and the last quarter are pretty badass.

I find that as long as you battle at least half of the trainers (not a problem, half of them you always hit) along the way, you'll always keep up with the gym leaders, your rival (who's actually your friend), etc. However, where it breaks down is the elite 4, who end up with level 55-63 or so, and you with around 40-50. Time to hit up the trainers in the area, and chum around victory road for a bit...

Games I am planning on bringing:

Every DS game that I own now, plus whatever I get my hands on before PAX. Seriously, just get a container to put them in and bring them all. No such thing as too many games to play, as long as you have a container that you can put them in to keep the from getting lost.

Bring all of them! You can get two DS games in a matchbox, with room left over for matches. I say bring all of yours. It'll be a perfect place to trade games you will never play again for games you were not interested in enough to buy the first time.

I actually use some cases that hold 3 games each. They're nice, and I don't have to lug around cases or anything. They're like $10 for a 3-pack too (total of 9 games to hold + 1 in the DS).
    Lindygamer wrote: »

It's true, when I picked up my copy of Diamond, it kinda went down like this...

Sales guy: So, is there any difference between the two?
Me: Yea, I'm sure there is, probably with what kinds you can get and such...
Sales: Oh yea? Weird, we've sold like 25 Diamond and only 10 Pearl today.
    Me: Hmm.

Then I paid for Diamond and a 360 rechargable battery pack and left. So yea, apparently they had gotten like 100 of the games, because they had two stands of it (one near the front, one in the electronics section), one of which was about half full still.

Need to get a list of ones that you can get in each version that you can't get in the other...then stockpile a bunch to bring to PAX.

...or you can just use the GTS, it's all the same.

BTW: Anyone want to trade me for Kirby Squeak Squad? It's a good game, but playing through it more than a few times (to get 100%) just gets boring.

While you are in Seattle for PAX, take a trip across the lake to Nintendo's HQ in Redmond. You can walk into their customer service center there and they can fix/replace it for you. And they even know if it's still in Warranty without a receipt, because when you buy the system they scan in its serial number.

Don't forget Animal Crossing! Some stuff has to be unlocked by visiting someone else's town.

I actually was playing my DS in line for the American Idol tryouts last year and a guy and his girlfriend behind me brandishing their own DS's asked if they could come to my town to ninja some bananas and pears. They left me a golden rose. :)

Just for the record they won't replace 72 pin connector on a NES anymore... Wonder if I can get the battery on my Super Mario RPG cartridge replaced though. Would be nice not having saved games randomly getting deleted.

It's not out yet, but Planet Puzzle League - basically tetris attack/pokemon puzzle league/panel de pon is coming out on the DS June 4.

This might be the only DS game I need to bring, as it will surely monopolize most of my mobile gaming. Of course that won't stop me from carrying all the games I have, but I don't expect to play most of them.

I had thought about this. Only problem, I bought my DS on June 12th, the day after my birthday (and the release of the Lite). Bought it June 12th, warranty expires before PAX... :|

There's a bright side to it though, my local EBGames is running a promotion to trade 6 games for a DS lite. a DS Lite retails for about $150 Canadian, which is about $25 a game. Now, imagine if you will, a bargain bin full of games in a Futureshop that EBGames will take for the promotion. Imagine those games being $10 each.

    $150 DS Lite + 6 $10 games = :winky:

I might just get two, just to piss EBGames off. ;-)

Actually, something I found out a while ago is that if you have a Nintendo product that hasn't been out passed it's warranty period, you can just call them and send it in, no proof of purchase or receipt needed. Since the DS Lite hasn't been out for a year yet (June 11 was the release date), call Nintendo and see if they'll replace it.

If you say so, I'll see about giving them a call today and see if they'll take it without a receipt.

Would be kinda hard explaining the problem though. The left shoulder button is broken, won't activate unless pressed hard, that's a given. The touch screen problem is a little wierd though...

Take the touch screen, make it face you as it normally would, cut it vertically down the center, take the right piece, cut it the same way, now take the left piece. THAT's the part that's messing up. it acts like I'm pointing furthur right than it is, to varying degrees depending on how far to the right it is.

    Anyway, giving them a call...

Customer service is closed today for the holiday, opens at 6am PDT tomorrow, I'll give them a call then.

While the multiplayer in touch is great, the singleplayer is horribly bad. It doesn't support the d-pad so you have to control the entire game with your stylus. While this is great for the minigames, there's no reason an adventure game should be controlled like that.
