Bannerfall was where the New Monarchy took out the Concordat. Concordat tried to basically raise a coup, were shut down. FWC was let into the Consensus to take the Concordat seat afterwards as well.
I thought the Concordat leader also escaped, but maybe I misremember my lore a bit.
I believe that Bannerfall is marked with the symbols of New Monarchy opposing Lysander's Concordat. Before being exiled from the city by New Monarchist Guardians on behalf of the the Vanguard, the Concordat opposed Osiris' promotion to Warlock Vanguard.
Unrelated, I have my Trials montage from Sunday afternoon.
After Bungie announced that the new map Bannerfall takes place in a different tower, and that it was home to a young New Monarchy, and an unknown faction that is no longer around, I've been extremely curious to know more.
Last night before falling asleep I was looking through some of the Grimoire cards and noticed something while reading Ghost Fragment: The City Age. There is mention of two factions that are unknown in game (at least to me).
First up is the Symmetry (pulled from Ghost Fragment: The City Age):
"The Symmetry has been gaining a strong following..."
"Ulan-Tan's teachings are too dangerous. Too much fear. Who knew he'd be more trouble dead than alive?"
Who is Ulan-Tan? And what role does he play in the Destiny Universe?
Searching through the Grimoire cards there is only four mentions of Ulan-Tan. One on The Darkness, Chamber of Night, The City Age, and Ulan-Tan's Burial Ring.
From Ulan-Tan's Burial Ring one is safe to assume that he was a Warlock (though this is not confirmed in any detail throught the Grimoire cards) because the item is a Warlock Bond.
From The Darkness we learn more about Ulan-Tan's Thesis (the basis on which the Symmetry 'faction' formed). He believed that the Darkness was the necessary opposite to the Traveler. We owe the Traveler for its protection of us.
From the Chamber of Night card we hear Ikora Rey admit that Ulan-Tan's theory is possibly correct. If the Hive could affect the Traveler by shrouding its shard in Darkness, then perhaps all light, and all darkness are connected.
We have already covered Ulan-Tan in The City Age Grimoire Card so I won't quote it again. But why did the city think his beliefs were dangerous? Possibly because his teachings claim that the darkness is necessary to balance the traveler's light. It leads one to believe that if you want to get rid of the darkness, you must also get rid of the light.
This is speculation on my behalf, but I also think these cards that leave the tower, the factions, and the speaker open to ambiguity let Bungie adapt the story in the future. By not providing concrete answers in the first year (hell probably not even for the first nine), they'll allow themselves to adapt to player reactions over time.
Whew. Now on to the second faction mentioned in The City Age grimoire card, the Concordat:
"And so it is agreed. The Concordat shall no longer be recognized among the consensus. We'll begin the dismantling right away. But what of those Guardians who have pledged to them? We can't afford any more banishments."
"I'm sure Zavala can see to their realignment."
Later in the card we get mention that the Concordat is led by a Guardian named Lysander. Searching the Grimoire cards, and item database I saw no mention of the Lysander, or of the Concordat, except in one other card, Osiris
"You were a mighty warrior. I watched you at Six Fronts, and heeded the call of Saint-14 to appoint you Vanguard Commander, even when the Concordat claimed to have records proving you were a Golden Age experiment mis-incarnated as a human by an inept Ghost. Saint-14 assured me you were just a man without much patience for obfuscation."
So throughout all of the Grimoire cards, this small comment is the only other mention of the Concordat.
But if we look back at the City Age card, towards the end of what I quoted we get something interesting... Mention of Zavala. Why is this interesting? Zavala is the Titan Vanguard, and the logo for the unknown faction looks awfully similar to some of the Striker Titan imagery.
Here is PlanetDestiny gameplay on Bannerfall showing the other faction's insignia (watch until around 55s to get a better look).
And here is an image of the Striker Titan skill tree.
Hopefully with the Taken King we'll learn more about this faction, and others like it. But until then, my speculation is that the Concordat is the other faction in Bannerfall, and that it was a faction of mostly Titans, thus the absorption under Zavala, and the similarity to the Striker Titan's imagery.

TLDR;
Bungie said that New Monarchy, and an unknown faction resided in the now derelict tower that Bannerfall takes place on. I believe that it is the Concordat, and that it was a mostly Titan Faction (possibly where Striker Titans originated from).

Got a loss at 8 wins, so lost Lighthouse at the doorstep.
Just got booted from an ongoing match, either because of Destiny's garbage servers or whatever.
3rd time in 2 days I've been kicked out of ongoing trials/crucible matches, reddit also states that its a problem thats happening, sometimes you get a message saying "You left your fireteam" and get booted to orbit, even if you werent in a fireteam.
18 Passage coins down the drain for their shitty servers, a bunch of time made useless and my loss boon is gone on a 5 win card - a little fucking salty.
Funny how the stability of this game keeps getting worse, especially after RoI.

Osiris is insanely powerful
There are suggestions he was in in Radiance mode, all the time. And the lore suggests that this is a ...pretty intense state of being, so that would have quite an effect on one's state of mind.
At the battle of twilight gap there are reports of him being in many places at once
The golden age experiment gone wrong revived by an idiot ghost fuels speculation that he might have been subject for golden age attempts to infuse humans with more light, by an unknown faction, perhaps the Seven Seraphs, perhaps the Warmind.
He was also a controversial figure because he would ask questions about the light, the traveler and how the ghosts and becoming a guardian affected one's personality. And had a Toland-esque approach to the Darkness, in that he wanted to research it more (he in fact inspired Toland's heterodoxy).
But also it isn't clear if the stuff about Osiris's origin was reflective of the truth or just slander.
Anyway Osiris is great.

Made it to 8 wins and lost out twice today. Both times we could have won but mismanaged our supers and fell in line to die. Pretty frustrating to deal with, especially after winning a 2v3 match when the game unceremoniously dropped Siri in round 2.

I did get the new 386 Hunter ToO cloak, a 386 Hunter Pariah chestpiece, a 386 ToO Scout Rifle (with explosive rounds that seems to be pretty fucking good), one of the green/blue Crucible ships, High and Flighty, 385 Exile ghost and the last of the original ToO shaders - Amduat Ink.
Right now, I'd trade it all for not losing the 9 win matches though.
I didnt manage to help Arteen and Jay get their final win on their card for Lighthouse, from that run where I got an extra loss because I got kicked by the servers mid match.

Sympathy, sir. I think back when I was strugling near the end of year 2, it felt like so much was random or out of control. I never got booted from a match though. Or had the lag you regularly seem to get. But it was frustrating, and seemed insurmountable.
So I would bitch and be sad here. And it helped. But it also helped when you (and others) enouraged perseverance. So I'll do the same.
It sucks now, but one card, probably soon, and it'll work. You'll visit Mercury again. You will stand triumphant in the sun. And Light willing, you will have a bitching Y3 cat emblem and Perdition as recompense for today.

I did spend a bunch of motes on upgrading it and used it for some of the matches, its pretty cool, used the Blind Perdition Pulse for a few matches too, I still prefer my Grasp of Malok for now, maybe its just that I'm more used to it, I'll try Perdition out more eventually.
I'll be on after reset this morning for whatever for a couple of hours or so depending on the burns for NF's and Heroics, as well as the quest for the last 2 artifacts needed for the book

Ended tonight at over halfway to 363. I am now up to something like 20 legendary engrams popped with no higher LL gear to show for it. That is pathetic. Hell, I popped one that was four points LESS than my current!

I have a dream that I can complete a raid without having to stay up into the early hours of the morning.
