So, Odin Sphere pretty much slipped under my radar until PA frontpage mentioned it. Looks like PA wanged Atlus' site, so I headed over to game trailers.
Dick, cumming, pants gone, etc.
This game looks STUNNING. I mean, really. Hi res sprites that look at least as good as Guilty Gear (different artstyle, obviously). Gorgeous animations, and it seems like real time action gameplay with RPG backing, sort of like the metroid-vanias. I've counted what appear to be 5 playable characters:
Some sort of bird-woman princess?
A fairy girl
A rabbit guy
A demon swordsman
Little Red Riding Whore with Double Chain Weapons Like That Guy From God of War

God there's no need to be obnoxious.
(Assuming that's what the first response is complaining about, anyways.)
Anyways, this game looks...pretty good. I dunno, I'm just done with JRPG/similarly stylized games for a while. Great for those of you that are interested, though.
Nerds are lazy as hell.
Mono is especially nerdy, and therefore especially lazy.
You mean the beautiful backgrounds? The detailed sprites? The lovely effects?
Do you hate 2D.
No, he got his mortal combat in your final fantasy which then stepped in my Harvest Moon.

First post has been edited. If I find anything else, I'll post it here. Maybe when Atlus gets unwanged.
I honestly can see what you're saying - you mean how each individual section of the sprite is animated a'la flash movie. But I think they did a damn fine job of minimizing it's visibility. We know it's there, but honestly, at this resolution, the cost of the next step is prohibitive. Hell, I imagined a game like this would never get made because this level of animation is cost prohibitive.

what other elements of the graphics? what's missing?
It's also getting a release within a week of the Japanese launch, which is pretty nuts. I think this is a big global initiative on Atlus' part, since it's being hyped on their Japanese site to death, too.
(You could just go there, if you absolutely need to find something on it.)
It was also made by the team that did a Saturn game called Princess Crown that never came out here, which I've always wanted to play, so I might just get it on that principle alone.
Also, an action game is always a nice change of pace.
I thought it was pretty amusing too and endorse the message behind it.
Also, Gabe elaborated on the game a bit more beyond the frontpage in the New Comic thread just a bit ago.
Thanks, and I fixed your bbcode
It does look pretty neat. I'm not going to get excited over it and be disappointed later, but this is definitely something to keep an eye on.
your right..I just watched a few more clips of it and I was wrong. While on second viewing everything looks like its well done..theres still something about it that just puts me.. off. I think its the animation, i just can't stand the way it's done for some reason.
Well, they'll be dirt cheap soon, and I will be buying one.
I don't know if this happened to you, but the first time I watched it on GameTrailers, the video was choppy, so it seemed like the animation was really choppy and terrible, which made the sprites look cheaper, but when I reloaded the video and got it to play smoothly, I got to see how it really looked.
Game is already pre-ordered, and looks so good
If you dig this artstyle, you might wanna check out Grim Grimoire. It's also being dev'd by Vanillaware with a similar artstyle. The gameplay is, oddly, a RTS thing with an RPG type story laid on top. Theres some clips up on Youtube that sorta show what its about. We're releasing it around the end of june.

But the action looks awesome. It reminds me of the Crescent Pale Mist demo.
You mean the Generation of Chaos one with pretty banners everywhere?
With moonspeak.
