And then I have the worst luck imaginable trying to cram in 3 games. 2 games go all 3 rounds. Get out of the second game and the brawl switched over while I was queued up for my third.
It isn't a bad talent. Colossus Smash and Twin Blades are both insane by comparison. I took Taunt in that match because it was the right choice for that match, which is kind of the whole point of the "multi-role hero" thing.
But yes, it could use some love. It has handshake range, so you basically have to burn charge before you can even utilize it. With Warbringer, I found that I could Charge in with a stun, slow them with my Q, and then Taunt to keep them where I wanted. By the time that was finished, Charge was basically off of cooldown again.
The tank build seems underwhelming in the face of the damage and sustain the two other options put out. And Warbringer practically provides more tank-like gameplay then freaking taunt does. It's a goddamn 1 second stun on a 6 second cooldown and it's longer range. It's kinda ridiculous.
If your team desperately needs a Tank, though -- which is to say, if your team desperately needs someone with high health to be a meat sponge -- then Taunt isn't bad in those scenarios.
Yes, Varian is already a really really good initiator and engager. But, he's still an Assassin, and he's still frail, and he can still be blown up. Taunt makes him meatier at the expense of his damage output, but at least you'll be soaking up that damage instead of one of your squishies, and you won't die immediately when you engage.
I'm not saying Taunt isn't bad in general. It's not great! But right now it has a certain niche use that can honestly really help your team if you REALLY need a tank. Taunt does need help, it does need some love, but it's also not completely useless right now.
But it's also not a general-pick Heroic right now either.
I think the biggest problems with Varian as a tank right now are that his baseline Charge is just utter garbage, and Second Wind provides more sustain and defense on it's own than all the Parry talents together.

Hey, nobody's talked about our amazing success with double support incorporating Kharazim and Brightwing! Iron fist Khara+second support is definitely something we should do some more. We absolutely crushed the other team which seemed like a decent comp and their MMRs are all quite high.
Yeah, that last match was fun! Double support is something we should do more often. Double warrior, as well. There are plenty of viable bruisers and utility supports now, and I feel like they really round out a lot of teams.
Dual bruiser + tank + support + specialist should be good too.
No burst damage but great aggressive style that can eliminate a back-line quickly, or peel and delete anyone out of pos.

I'm just really glad I can play Kharazim again. He's legit now, especially into AA heroes. People really underestimate his damage mitigation w/ Earth Ally - 50% off of all basic attacks is amazing given you get it at level 4. And once 16 rolls around, Way of the Hundred Fists means he has insane burst and finishing damage.
Arcane Explosion has a higher winrate than Master's Touch in both HL and QM... But here again I'd love to be able to break down the stats a little more: I'd like to filter out the games where Master's Touch was taken but the quest wasn't completed so I can compare.

Honestly, I think Kharazim is your best hero. I'm glad he's coming into his own with regard to role and comp position, so you can play him more often.

u too bae. But what about my amazing Medivh play?!?!?!?
So is Varian not actually OP? He's almost at the bottom at hotslogs, which I realize doesn't tell the full story, but it's usually a reasonable indicator of when a new hero is way out of line one way or the other.
Varian is still #2 in QM, though I have never seen such a split between QM and HL. At any rate it seems less than certain that he will eat heavy nerfs, which... I would like. Isn't that was everyone wants? A hero that feels OP when you play them but isn't regarded as such by the populace? Haha.
I'm seeing some black Friday details on Reddit, though they are only for Europe right now. A bit underwhelming. A couple bundles and a return of the year long stimpack, but no universal 50% off or extended duration on the sale. I hope it is better for NA, but I'm not optimistic.

QM is a shitshow with regards to team comps. People will play whatever, whenever, and have no idea what kind of heroes they will be playing with/against beyond vague notions about hero popularity at the time. Varian will always thrive in that kind of environment, because it takes his biggest asset - his flexibility - and exaggerates it. In a draft, if you see Varian, you might not know the details of how he will spec, but you have enough information to work with to counter or mitigate him in some way. But in QM, Varian can queue into any given game and adjust his build accordingly. Morales is just gonna queue as Morales and choose between grenades or some shit.

If I had to wager a guess, maybe it's because people can counterdraft Varian in HL, whereas in QM he can just shit on the enemy team if they don't have any answers to him.
Because unlike Samuro, Varian does have counters. Surprise! Gasp! I know.
Swap the dropdown to Hero League, go to Matchups, sort by winrate. There's a LOT of Heroes that shit on Varian! Which is good. I ran into a team the other day consisting of Zarya/Rexxar/Gul'dan... Uhh, I forget the other two? But those first two alone are HUGE counters to Varian.
Meanwhile, I'm still over here wondering "who counters Samuro?" and the answer is "fukken i dunno dude *SHRUG*"
Samuro still has favorable winrates against a majority of the cast. There's only 5 Heroes where his winrate dips below 50% (Hammer/Zarya/Azmo/Auriel/Sylvanas, with Hammer/Zarya being the biggest problem for him).

Where "biggest problem" means "still 47% win rate against them" :P

I'll be on tonight looking for people to bang out some vs AI for this event if anyone is interested. I'm also down to play QM or Unranked if that's more appealing, I just figured AI would be faster.

I think Taunt should have some form of Resistance built in.
The range needs to improve, but what about the Passive HP buff?
OOO! What if it did something to his W because now he's got the shield when he takes Taunt?
I think Varian has such huge splits between QM and HL because in QM, it's mostly all for yourself, and Varian can 1v1 pretty much anybody. In HL though, where he can get stunned and focused in group fights, he's much less dangerous. And although he is in many ways a better Illidan, he lacks Illidans "immunity" to skill shots and small AoEs because he's much more of a "stand in place and beat on you" type, like Butcher, than a "dance all around and be impossible to target" like Illidan.
Basically, his two aggresive specs are a "kind of divey" melee burst option, and a "super divey i'm in until someone dies" melee sustain option. While his Defensive/Tank spec suffers a lot from not having any in-built hard CC, except for a kind of terrible effect that only works once a fight and then only if you're ALREADY melee'ing someone.
Also, his Charge baseline and the level 4 talents need adjusting. Taunt also needs some serious help.
EDIT: the way his skills diverge at 10 also makes it harder to isolate which talents are under and over performing, because with Taunt at 39% winrate, all the Varians who take it drag down the values for every other talent they take.

My game keeps locking up, and going into an endless 'attempting to reconnect' loop whenever I damage the enemy core. What the hell? Is this something other people have experienced? Any tips for moving past this? It's freaking awful
so, it looks like they aren't doing the black friday blowout again this year, 2 bundles one of which is a very good deal but I own everything in it, the year stimpack, and a couple legendary skins on sale.
womp womp. i kinda wanted the spectre hoverbike but not at full price given all the other good mounts i have.

I have never seen that behavior before, unfortunately. Good luck!
Just finished placement matches, I've been doing mostly Tracer so far and got to Gold 4. She seems great for solo queue because I can safely get out of dangerous situations no matter what the team while still contributing.
Just finished an awesome three game stretch. 1st game, we got both Nova and Abathur during the draft. Meanwhile our Malf spent all game in base complaining that we weren't five at fights, so that's why he never bothered to show up to them. The other team had a damage spec kharazim, who outhealed our Malf 2 to 1. 2nd game, I reported two people in draft. It went downhill form there. 3rd game, I was the only player on our team with over 5k exp. Our Zagara finished the game with 2.3k exp contribution. It was a 16 minute game. I honestly don't even know how that is possible.

i don't recall the last time i had a truly positive thing to say about heroes. not "wow the new hero is cool" or something like that. more that an improvement to the game was made. that being said i really love that now it tells you after games if you are beating your average on something. i wish the stats provided by hotslogs were in client, but this is a good start.

Queue times are super long and you only get 1 super short game out of it.
And it's easy to know how it will end cause if you have to shoot the cannons, you are gonna lose. It's stupid easy to stall out the shots.
