Not sure how I feel about these changes. Boosts to fighting/ground/other unused types is nice, but their counters are still very strong. Plus Vileplume and Victreebel got nerfed while all my waters (but Slowbros) are the same or better is annoying. Luckily I had a bunch of electrics that got boosted gym battles would be even worse.

Also poor Parasect got nerfed. He was the only good bug!

Secrets, lies, and tragedy. The trifecta.

My parasect didn't really change. He's level 25 though, stayed around 1200 power.

I think it's pretty clear that this wasn't a deliberate balancing pass touching each Pokémon. PoGo gets it stats from the normal games but does some rejiggering because it only has three stats ("special " atk and def are missing). They probably changed something in that rejiggering.

Niantic doesn't know what they are doing I think :P Also when I was in California, Growlithes were insanely common, so probably regional bias ("herp-a-dur, too many Arcanines in gyms over here! Must be too stronk!")

I would agree with you, in that the "balance changes" if real, make no sense. On the other hand, the announcement explicityly frames it as a balance change.
These changes will allow a more balanced and competitive battling and training experience in Gyms. We will continue to adjust the CP going forward to improve the game balance when necessary.
The other possible conclusion is that they really suck at this.

its also easy to explain it the common as a balance patch as opposed to saying we redid the formula that derives the combat power of the pokemons

Seriously? Arcanine is still in the top 10 for attacking. He's never been good at defending.

    In case you were curious:

Duel is the general tankiness of the Pokemon. So if you don't plan on dodging anything then you'll want one of those.

Data miners confirmed that the CP formula remains unchanged. HP values same across the board as well. CP changes reflect changes to the base Atk and Def.

Can confirm that Gengar hits like a goddamned freight train now. I'm so happy about that

Well, at least they're willing tinker with the guts of the game.

I guess we have to give it a couple of patches to see if they can get balance right.

    Interesting!: https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon-stat-change

People figured out the formula Niantic used to calculate the new stats. Basically:

    (a) PoGo Attack stat now factors in Speed from mainline series, finally.

    (b) PoGo Attack and Defense weights towards "specialists" in Attack/Special Attack and Defense/Special Defense, respectively. So a Special Attack powerhouse like Alakazam isnt punished for having weak Attack (because he wouldn't ever use physical attacks in the mainline series), while a mixed attacker isn't rewarded for having good but middling stats in both Attack and Special Attack (reflecting that mixed attackers are good for their move versatility, not punching super hard.)

Gives me hope that Niantic is listening to their player base.

Am I going crazy or did power-up requirements go up a bit?

I had a lot of Pokes that needed 4,000 stardust for a boost, now most of them say 4,500.

    Trainers,

After reviewing your feedback, we have made some changes to the Nearby feature we were originally testing in San Francisco, California. We have changed the feature to only show the Nearby feature if a PokéStop is close to your location. In addition, we have also made changes to the way Sightings now works.

We will be expanding the ability for Trainers to test this updated version of the features and provide us with feedback. Starting today, Trainers in the following areas will now be able to use the new Nearby and Sightings functionality:
    - United States of America: All states west of the Mississippi River (except Hawaii and Alaska)
    - Canada: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the western half of Ontario.
    - Australia: All states and territories

Your feedback submitted to all of our official social media accounts and posted in other channels is important to us. We will continue to review community feedback and make changes if necessary.

Our first six months has been nothing short of exciting and your continued support has been inspiring. We have a lot of content, features, and functionality that we will be implementing over the coming months and years. Our goal is to always improve on existing features where we can while also releasing exciting new content and functionality.

    The Pokémon GO team

Did IV calculation break with CP change? All of a sudden pokeassistant says my pokemon don't exist.

Yeah. Your Pokémons' new CP values will throw off IV calculators.

    Oh. Yes. They do. Duh.

I know there are more than 9 pokes near me, but the list is limited to 9, and doesn't seem to be prioritized by nearness. I hope it's at least going to show me if there are any rare, or more importantly new, pokes nearby.

It's similar to mainline series. He transforms and gets the moveset of he first guy he sees. His stats scale according to species that he transforms to, not power. I have a ~200 CP ditto, he saw a ~800 CP Dragonite (lol), transformed to ~1200 CP Dragonite.

Sadly you can't use this to cheese the prestige system. I beat up the aforementioned Dragonite and only got 50 prestige for my trouble. So clearly the game took the 1200 CP post transform stats, not the 200 CP pre transform set.

Haven't tried switching him mid battle yet.

Second one. You catch a rattata or Pidgey as normal, nothing appears different or off. If it's a Ditto it'll give you a special cut scene showing it transform after you catch.
