I give 0 shits about gen 3, since that was the gen I hated so much that it got me to quit Pokemon, so I don't think that'll even pull be back in like gen 2 did)
I will catch different color poo as long as it adds something to my Pokedex. Catching the new things and evolving them are the only things I actually enjoy in this game. I won't bother catching the same poo in special hats though. I draw the line there.
Hehe I am kinda the opposite. I very much enjoy the hats, though maybe less so if it's on a Pokemon I think is dumb.
I would mostly agree also on the "I enjoy collecting everything" but that would be more the case if I was still playing. All I'm saying is gen 3 won't be enough to bring me back, since I hate most of the Pokemon in it anyways.
In any case, I'm the same in that I only really enjoy the collecting aspect of the game. The problem there for me is that aspect seems to not matter much to Niantic who is focusing more on raids and "social" things (I hate being social and would rather avoid it :P)

I don't mind being social, but the only other person I know that plays this game is my wife. You need at least 4 people to take down one of those birds, so we are SOL. When gen 2 came out, we knew a dozen or so people that played. They didn't hang on long enough for raids.
That's a really good patch. I've not played in a bit. The raids kinda burned me out.
I mean, I guess. Nothing that really makes me want to boot the game back up though (and as a bonus, I give 0 shits about gen 3, since that was the gen I hated so much that it got me to quit Pokemon, so I don't think that'll even pull be back in like gen 2 did)
Man. Talk about differing opinions.
Gen 3 was my favorite gen. Groudon and Kyogre are my favorite mascot legendaries, Team Magma and Team Aqua are my favorite villain groups, and my all time favorite Pokemon, Gardevoire came from this gen. Other favorites too, such as Blaziken, Aggron, Absol, Metagross, Dusclops... such a good generation. Can't wait!
Heh, I did like the legendaries. But I mostly felt a lot of the new pokemon were dumb compared to gen 1 and 2. Like, literally what the hell is Mawile? Or Gulpin, Meditite, freaking Solrock and Lunatone. God damn Probopass... like, gen 3 was when they completely ran out of ideas/animals to rip off I think :P Also all the surfing was kind of lame :P
I quit after that and didn't come back until X & Y. Which I sorta liked, but I think mostly just because I had been away for so long. The story of that game was pure trash. Sun & Moon was the first gen I've truly loved in a real long time (to the point I actually finished the pokedex).
I'm not really arguing here, because I totally agree. Nosepass and Meditite and Gulpin are all super dumb. Solrock and Lunatone I'm kinda okay with. The precedent for crazy space rocks has kind of already been set since Clefairy requires a Moonstone to evolve. This just seems like a natural progression.
But it also seems like not a very strong argument to say "this gen has stupid pokemon" because Gen 1 has Mr. Mime, Jynx, and HitmonChan/Lee. And Gen 2 has Dunsparse and Wooper/Quagsire, and Shuckle.
No generation is perfect and they all have several retarded Pokemon each.

It's not that the gen has dumb Pokemon. It's that a good majority of them are either dumb or really underwhelming. :P (also Shuckle is ok, at least from a design perspective)
I just got home from work, and the Starbucks across the street had a Moltres with 17 minutes left on it. I checked the local Discord and FB groups and there were no posts about it. Actually, there were no posts at all from today. I think raiding in my area is dead. (for now)
But! The crazy part is that after the 17m timer expired on this Moltres, it instantly respawned. I've got a fresh new Moltres with 2 hours left on the timer at Starbucks. I have been granted a final chance by the Pokemon gods to not miss this dex entry.
Now I need to make as many pagan sacrifices as necessary to the RNG gods to let me catch this fucking thing. I'm 0/7 on Moltres attempts. I also need to make additional sacrifices to get people to show up and actually raid.
This doesn't mention the rumour going around my city that catching and then passing the raid catch screen by hitting OK decreases the chance that other players have of catching the legendary from the raid.
Not sure if that's confirmation bias or not.
I've actually seen that rumor in reverse enough to confirm that it's true. People in my city are very good at waiting - and reminding others to wait - at the capture screen and not to advance until everyone has exhausted their throws. And capture rates are way higher in raids where everyone waits. I was a part of a Zapdos raid that was something like 11/12 captures when everyone waited to hit OK.

Oh yeah, I saw that a few days ago. Like I've been saying, this game is broken as shit and it drives me crazy they spend more time trying to block scanning maps and shit than fixing their damn game.
It honestly boggles my mind with how much Niantic is making they can't seem to actually deal with some of this stuff. I still remember how long it took them to hire someone to actually communicate with people when their game was crashing every day
I still don't understand why they just don't provide their own scanning map.
Then the strain from scanners could be limited to that map rather than their player server.
And they should have enough money to do that...

That rumor is 100% confirmed to be the bullshit it sounds like because the game transmits no data whatsoever to the server when you press OK (or wait).

This is gonna be the biggest obstacle to raiding is that once everyone in your area has the mons they want. What's the incentive to keep raiding?

Yeah, this is why, along with a lack of mobility (kid, no car, stay-at-home-dad) and only knowing one other person playing, I haven't gotten a single legendary yet.

Something something social bullshit. They don't want you using a map, because apparently if you wander around aimlessly you will stumble on people and talk and have good times and such. I'm sure that's what they are thinking.
Honestly the maps made the game fun for me. I don't have time to fuck around hoping I find something good randomly. But they seem dead set on killing them, devoting a lot of their resources to that instead of fixing bugs.

that might be what they were thinking, but by now they know it doesn't work that way (especially outside of major cities). They don't care. They have the most popular mobile game because pokemon. If this game had been called 'randommadeupthingGO' it would have failed inside the first week.

Well, I finally got the patch. Takes them forever to push it out on iOS. The patch notes were released like 3 days ago.
And anyway, the game is now broken so bad that I cannot even access main function screens. Instant crash when I open my profile page. Cannot check my buddy, journal, or badges because as soon as I tap on my player icon, the game dies. On top of that, when I access my Pokedex, the character models for the Pokemon do not load in. Well... some of them do. I'll scroll past like 6 that are working fine, and then I'll have 30 in a row that are just loading a plain white square where the Pokemon thumbnail image should be. Oh, and one time I scrolled through the list of Pokemon and they were all Dittos.
So yeah. Good job Niantic. Fix 3 broken things in raids, break 3 others.
EX Raid passes being sent out. You get 48 hours of notice and there's a 2 hour window. I don't think there's any sort of confirmation or anything that you'll make it.... Seems like a poor implementation but not surprising.
I just changed cities so haven't done many raids in the new one. Hopefully I can still hit some invites. I do have all of the legendaries released so far though.

Two hour window? What the fuck? I thought there was some sort of indication you'd have longer.

The hard part is that you need to ensure at least 20 people are there. If you put the window at 4 hours then there's a potential for a lot of people standing around doing nothing for 4 hours. They really should have just implemented some sort of RSVP method so people could schedule their days around it.

I can't wait for the stories of people showing up for their exclusive raid passes and no one else being there, wasting their one chance at a Mewtwo :P

The first week or so that won't happen. The fans are pretty rabid about Mewtwo but anytime after that.. Yeah it'll happen. I'm not sure if I will even attempt the fight to be honest.
If I even get one at all. I haven't raided at all since Raikou started spawning. I kind of don't care about this game anymore. Way too much burnout after chasing those damn birds for a month straight and still never getting a Moltres.

Hell I got all but a Lugia (who I really don't care about) and haven't played since early last week. The burnout is real.

I'm not convinced. What if your one chance is in the middle of the day while you're stuck at work? There are reasons people can't make it at specific times besides just apathy. I have a bad feeling stuff like that is going to make this whole thing fall apart.

We'll see! Hell the legendary raids were super populated and those spawned at various places (many of them during work hours). And this is Mewtwo. I suspect demand will be high at first and then taper down quickly.
The Raid Burnout is honestly just too real. Until today, I hadn't been out raiding in over a week, and I know groups have been slow. There have been people in our local chats posting "There's an Articuno here!" and nobody responds at all, because too few people care to drive over and take it out.
That being said, I did get a group together when there were 3 Raikou at the same time downtown, so I managed to catch one! One was at a Starbucks and a woman walked out of the store, saw the group, and asked if she could hop in with us, which was funny and the exact kind of interactions Niantic probably hoped would happen with the Raid system. I have to admit that it is super cool when it happens organically...though it's hard to engineer.
Seems like there is enthusiasm for the first few days of a new raid, then it drops as everyone has one or ten caught.
I.e. get while the getting is goodbin the first few days of a release.

The weird thing is, I'd have to hoof it, and in this heat, it's still not even close to worth it even with a few gyms within 15 minutes walk time or less. And then the rest are, once again, 20+ minutes out, walking in the blazing heat, and I'd have to have a kid strapped to my front.
Edit: note that when I say "blazing heat", I mean anything above 75 degrees. We're currently getting regular 85-90 degree weather.
