This might be the first AAA multiplayer shooter I buy in a while. I like the idea of the objective modes going back to a Wolfenstein/Medal of Honor style of gameplay.

Edit: this is from someone who has not cared for the series since I sold MW2

While I didn't hate boosting around as much as some others seemed to, and BLOPS3 was my favorite CoD since MW2.

Been feeling like playing a new CoD lately so hopefully the beta is good.

I'm all for it, because it means variety in character models, but they were hammering "historical accuracy" pretty hard during the initial reveal. I assume they're just trying to nip the "U guys r sexist!" nonsense in the bud so they don't have to deal with the same dummies that went after Battlefield 1.

They've had female characters playable since ghosts, it's one thing not to put women in your game, it's another thing entirely to take them out.

I also couldn't be happier to see the end of jump jets, they either break the maps entirely like they did in advanced warfare, or just make one predetermined corridor dumb in the later games. Give me my feet, give me a gun, give me a bombing run. That's all I need in cod.

I've seen an interview with one of the devs where he said that 'historical accuracy' was important for the campaign but for MP they care way more about being fun and inclusive. He sited that while you'll see swastika's in the campaign there will not be any in MP. Which pissed off the usual suspects who of course only want them included in the MP for 'historical accuracy'.(My personal favorite idea was that they should take a page out of the old America's Army game and has every player see themselves as the Allies and the enemy as the Nazi's.)

I've been out of the CoD cycle for a few years now but I could see giving this one a shot, although Activision has done much to garner any goodwill from me in a long time, so we'll see how it looks.

I will nitpick colored people and women on the nazi side, because even America had segregated units for black soldiers and USSR had women fighting but nazi ideology wouldn't allow either (and that is bad and should be put on display which is why I took issue with it in TNO), but it's clear what they're doing.

I don't think you can do the America's army thing if they have that War mode in he game. It's supposed to be objective based multiplayer during historical battles so protecting the beaches of Normandy from invasion as Allied won't make much sense. Does anyone remember what they did for Call of Duty 1 and 2 multi? I never got into the series until 4.

CoD 1&2 were axis vs allies with fixed load outs to pick from. The Allied team was dependent on what map was being played so Russians on a Russian map, Americans on Normandy maps and so on.

I'm having fun with Infinite Warefare single player. Though, every so often, something weird happens. Like someone accidentally nudges the 'jank' knob and quickly put it back.

I can't wait to be rid of bunny hopping skinny bots roaming around with their fucking laser beam NV4s. Honestly the only game that have done jump jets right is Titanfall 2.

As a whole, I'm two minds of it!

The multiplayer, or the meat and potatoes (for many people) is... functional? It honestly feels kind of dry and bog-standard. For me it's much more fun than Ghosts, thank goodness - the weapons have decent-enough gimmicks to have some degree of variety - but it also suffers from Ghosts' insistence on introducing a billion systems to nurture complexity in customisation, as well as unlocking stupid broken shit through loot crates. It's mostly unneccessary fluff to encourage microtransactions. Overall the map design is better than Ghosts, but mostly because the new movement options don't make the map feel so excessively large.
Which I guess is Infinite Warfare's major problem - that Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3 exist, both wholly superior titles, multiplayer-wise. IW's multiplayer still holds to the slower cadence of Infinity Ward-produced Call of Duty games to some degree, which doesn't fare as well when two out of three games now produced in the franchise are now more fluid and consistent in the pace at which games progress. I actually do enjoy the absurdly-low TTK, make-everything-broken design philosophy that the custom weapons have, but they're really just novelty in a game that is mostly just 'fine'.

And that's a shame, because personally I adore the story campaign. I haven't enjoyed a campaign for Call of Duty this much since the original Modern Warfare, because for all the shit and dislikes that the trailers got, the cast of the game feel like a cast of actual characters. To be sure the Black Ops series is fun in its own right, with its psychological mystery bent on it being pretty interesting, but past Call of Duty 4 up until now most characters haven't felt much more than caricatures to prop up the plot.
We always had a sense that Captain Price or Soap MacTavish could be plausible people but the story never really gave them much past being operators operating operationally in Very British operations. The villains in Infinite Warfare are nebulous and poorly-executed as Zakhaev, Makarov or Menendez, of course, but the crewmen and women of the Retribution feel more believable than most other characters in the franchise. The lead characters have struggles and ideological conflicts, but push past them as part of their duty and the story ends with a good, long look at the meaning of self-sacrifice (in between obligatory explosions) and a genuine respect for men and women in military service. Brian Bloom hands in a really great performance (and a great story script!) as the player character. It's ironic that the most outlandish setting in the series has, to me, a story that I felt was pretty straightforward and well-grounded (by the boundaries of sci-fi, at least).

It's not the most amazing first-person shooter story even in the year it was released (obviously, it had to butt up against the likes of DOOM and Titanfall 2). It has a weird pace with the open-ended mission progression and transitions between ground/shipboard combat and dogfighting, and the bad guys are so embarrasingly poorly fleshed-out. But even though it's couched in the usual gun porn and technobabble of future warfare there's an honest story with themes about the goddamn call of duty, and it isn't afraid to change things up mechanically in a departure from the linearity of previous titles that hasn't been challenged since Black Ops II. To me it's a genuine breath of fresh air in the franchise that was maligned because of the way it was poorly marketed and bundled with lackluster companion components.

I saw gameplay for the next CoD and honestly it just looks too slow for me. Though I'm sure a lot of folks will appreciate it with the more grounded WW2 vibe.

I think a lot of the more recent shooters have just started to take me back to my Unreal Tournament roots and I've been having fun being there.

I hope BLOPS 4 continues in the vein of 3 though.

Boy, the more I played CoD:IW the less impressed I am with it.

Everything just feels....halfassed. Why is all the missions in battle ships with the samey corridors? Who the fuck design the flight system for the space combat, because they have no idea what they're doing. And why does every CoD game feels the need to stroke the player dick? "You're a captain who doesn't sit behind a desk like a pussy! Instead you out on the field killing winning the war single handed!" Honestly, I wished they took the money they spent making CoD;IW and used it to make TF3.

Then again, what was I expecting from a CoD game. Oh well, $30 wasted.

I wish it showed some gameplay. I really hope there's more to this year's zombies than the normal lame thing they always do. This looks good and creepy, and some of those zombies looked real necromorphy.

How much information is there for the multiplayer out yet? It seems like there's usually a decent amount of info by this time of year.

I'm probably gonna pick this one up because i've skipped the last two and also there's no jump jets in this one.

Yeah I've been playing killing floor and I much prefer that. Short rounds, clear goals, classes with roles, special zombies types.

Endless waves of the same zombies until they become litterally unkillable is not fun anymore.

Just played some TDM and War matches. Pretty good stuff, but it's CoD so of course it's 90% sniper rifles... Still, it felt great to play some old-school CoD without jumpjets and wall runs. Ran into some hinky hitmarker BS, but I'm attributing that to the beta for now. I also think they might need to tweak the War map. It's practically impossible to build the bridge as the allies.

I did end up cancelling my preorder in favor of Battlefront II, but I'll definitely be picking CoD up down the line.

I've been having fun with it something about the pace of it seems deliberate in a good way. They seem to have made hardscoping snipers way more compelling than quickscoping, which is still possible, so I imagine there's going to be even more sniping. The maps I've played so far have mostly mitigated the effectiveness of snipers by making every room have like a dozen different places to flank from. I really like the design of the maps.

Stormvoid and I will be on tonight for ps4 beta if anyone wants to join us. my PSN is the same as my forum name, mention PA when you friend request because I'm currently getting spammed with bogus friend invites for some reason.

Looks like the expedition division gets to use a tactical and lethal at rank 3 or 4. Those incendiary rounds on the shotgun are really good!

Silenced PPSH on Point du Hoc feels like cheating... love it. I kinda want to pre-order this know and just juggle CoD and Star Wars together, but it seems like the connections are still P2P? I thought they were going servers for realsies this time... I'll be having great games, and then suddenly a string of hitmarker shit-fests.

I think CoD uses P2P and dedicated servers. I'm hoping that any connection issues are Beta related. I had a lot of bad games yesterday and a lot of good ones today. Unless you are a die-hard fan i don't see a reason not wait a week and see how it goes.

Whelp, taking a gamble that the connections in the final game are more consistent and dropped a preorder again for CoD. Digital on PS4 so I can't back out this time! Just going to have to juggle Star Wars and Cowadoody together.

The beta was super fun! PPSh is my jam, and shotguns feel good again. At least that starting shotty felt good to use, especially with those incendiary rounds. I am excited for CoD again (they find a way to hype me up every year...) I hope the campaign and zombies are great too.
