So I'm tempted to get this. However £60 is a tad steep considering the constant churn of COD games that comes out.
The last COD I got was Ghosts, and that had a way to add bots to multiplayer matches which vastly extended its shelf life for me. Does new MW have bots?

Custom games have bots.
Is that across all multiplayer modes? For example, I'm not expecting to be able to play the co-op modes with friendly AI but the PvP stuff like TDM can?

Just launched a private game to test and the Add bots option is there for all game modes including the new Gun Fight 2v2 mode. I didnt play with any bots so I cant say how good they are but its an option at least. Also even on PC I expect to be not have a trouble finding matches since its all crossplay now.
edit: clarification, the coop mode does not have bots but all the pvp stuff does.
I kind of hate the way challenges only track if theyre activated now though, and you can only have one active. Also ditching prestige seems weird re long term stuff to grind.
Each gun has, like, 50 levels. And you have to get approximately #infinity kills/headshots to unlock the different reticles for each sight per gun, and for all the camo...
It's like 80+ levels, but I personally don't want to have to use guns i don't like or reticles or whatever. But I guess we'll see once the battle pass stuff rolls out how the long term prospects look. Just saying I liked grinding prestiges is all.
random question but once youve earne multiple killstreaks is there a way to cycle the active one? there was in previous COD games but i cant seem to do it this time around.
You have to hold the assigned button and it brings up a radial menu.

Tried a friend's copy...yeah I was never a big fan of the hooray shit and they just keep slowing the game down and nerfing/removing mobility options. So, eh. Well at least I got to form my opinion without paying for it.
You know you can just turn off crossplay if you want to, right?
Not for Ground War. And I see the “cross play enabled” notification show up sometimes when I have modes beyond the five from launch in my filter, whether I’ve disabled it in Account or not. I don’t actually mind crossplay against controllers, but somehow KBM has shown up every time so far that I’ve joined a TDM20 lobby. Must be my karma from all those MW2 matches with OMA catching up to me.

Anyone know if that whole Windows add-on for Xbox gamepass will let me play this on PC using my Xbox license? I thought I read somewhere that if you had that you only needed one copy of a game but could play it on both platforms.

No, it won't -- this only works for certain games. The keyword you're looking for is "Play Anywhere"
If MS could make this work with more publishers/titles, it'd be amazing. I'd probably have picked this up if it was a play anywhere title, but I don't really know where I'd end up playing it more and so I can't be bothered.

I’m about to queue up some custom matches with bots to practice my aim on a higher sensitivity. They’re apparently quite good this time around, though it may be purely down to the quick TTK. The nice thing is, you can try out attachments you haven’t unlocked yet, so you know what you’re working towards. Which makes it bizarre that their details are still hidden in the normal equip screen.
I’m with you on the bots in Ghosts. Specifically, I played a bunch of HQ invasions. Not one of the better COD games, but I liked outfitting an AI squad and taking it into battle, and I’d like to see that feature make its way into some of the more co-op focused games, if not future COD titles.

So I guess your level just keeps going up now once you hit 55. Seems like a pointless change but whatever. Challenges/missions are so so broken that there's not much point trying to grind then atm.

Bot count is up to max of 5 on each team so it looks like you can't simulate Ground war or the large TDM which is a shame. I'm enjoying multiplayer so far. I've come from playing R6: Seige so all the complaints about it being campy and slower-paced don't bother me. If anything, this is lightning speed compared to Seige.
I had some special version of the M4 unlocked so I was using that until I unlocked more parts.

I am also....not very good at this game.
The M4 is beast.
This is a hard COD to jump into if you've been away, skill wise. The maps are real cluttered, the game inventiveness campy bs, and the TTK is significantly faster than the last couple games.
I assume there is some sort of skill based matchmaking going on behind the scenes, right?
I have some matches where I go on an absolute tear and pull out a 5 to 1 KtD. Other times I end up spawn camped and go 2/10. I expect my KtD and W/L to average out around 1 over time, right?

It seems like I might be having an easier time not having played BO3 and BO4. It’s a big change from WW2, for sure. But in that game, the theoretical TTK was actually fairly quick, although this was mainly reserved for a few guns that rose above the clunky stamped metal wood grained fail of the forties. Quick-scoping sniper rifles, in particular, were the bane of any automatic weapon that even looked like it might throw a shot sideways under recoil.
I know some players like to approach things like the gunsmith system without looking up stats too much, but TheXclusiveAce does some good videos on the attachments. The descriptions are often misleading, is one big takeaway.

Kill confirmed is in, that's good. Challenges still broken af.
Seems like the daily ones still work, they just don't track visually after you complete the first for some reason. The mission ones are the ones that annoy me because I feel like I have to reflag the damn things after every round.

With the daily ones sometimes its just a visual bug, and sometimes things dont actually track. Its impossible to tell. And the mission ones just dont fucking work at all. Sometimes they work fine, sometimes they unflag mid match, sometimes they reset your progress to zero, sometimes they just dont track no matter what, sometimes you start the game up and suddenly some of them are completed... like its just incredible how many ways they dont work.
Weirdly, the mission challenges work for me, while dailies don’t. In any case, I don’t like engaging with either. This despite being a fan of the old Challenges system and even the Orders from WW2. These fall flat in comparison.

i hate the single, activated challenge thing SO MUCH. mainly because im pretty trash at COD and things like getting 10+ kills without dying are vanishingly rare so i would like them to count towards the applicable challenges when they do happen. eventually i might level challenges up just by sheer attrition that way yknow. that being said, the systems that they have in place just flat out not functioning is very annoying, even if im not a huge fan of the systems on a base level.

This. In any game, not just COD. I’ve been screwed out of trophies by the way basic and wizard goals work in The Pinball Arcade, for instance. Just put all the random goals out there, like bringing down a helicopter by spitting in the pilot’s eye or whatever, and give me credit for them when and where and how I fulfill them.

The other day, having decided the reticle unlocks progress far too slowly, I tried out a bunch of different optics to find the default that I liked the best. And the APX5 holo emerged as the clear winner. For some reason, I play noticeably better with this thing. It’s not as clean as the reflex sights, but it seems to provide more info to my brain, anyway, to guide my thumb onto target faster and with more precision. And the target doesn’t seem to disappear under it like with the fiercely red pattern of the other holo sights.
On the pistols side, I’ve settled into the 1911. I don’t expect to kick bubblegum and chew ass with any of these, but even as a backup, the other autos feel either underpowered or slow. Making me miss the sidearms from WW2, which I felt perfectly capable running around with after my primary had burned through all three magazines that my soldier avatar saw fit to bring to the most devastating war in history.

I'll take the 725 over that quickscoping horseshit any day of the week. At least I know that they were aiming relatively close to target with that.
As someone who is comically incompetent with sniper rifles, but started leveling the 725 because I thought it would be funny to use a double barrel shotgun until I realized it was comically overpowered- both are bad
As dumb as the 725 is, at least it’s not a guy with a ballistic shield, an RPG, and throwing knives. Which is apparently the new troll class. Especially since that thing shrugs off direct hits from grenade launchers and rockets, and with EOD at least, survives claymores from the front whether crouching or not. A molotov or incendiary grenade launcher round directly on the shield gets the job done, but direct impacts from rockets should always be game over, even with a shield and EOD.

The best thing about Ground War is it doesn’t have Piccadilly. I think Garth summed it up best.
