Thanks to some republican judge in Texas, the anticipated salary overtime ruling that was to go into effect next week is now dead in the water. Naturally, my company HQ was super excited to let us know that we will not, in fact, be getting paid overtime now. They followed up that notice with a notice that we will now be working an additional half-day starting next Saturday (for no additional pay, of course).
No raise. No sale for me. Fuck everything.
In other news, Grim Dawn is still pretty fantastic. Anyone who doesn't own it should rectify that.
What a great top of the page!
Here's a fast turnaround giveaway of a game I've been mildly curious about and waiting for it to be "done". Over in 5 hours.
EDIT: Much like Pixie has been doing, I'm totally down for putting people's names into my most definitely doomed settlement. So PM away and I'll start up a list to roll through as needed.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is on sale for 80% off instead of the usual 75%, which brings it down to 10 bucks. But Dragon's Dogma is around 12 bucks right now. I assume I already know the answer, but which should I get?

Anyone play Earthlock? For some reason drawn to it. Heard solid enough things, but it was one of those debuted free on Xbox One games so I'm not sure if that's just inflated by people getting a free game.
You know, the write-up for the “I'm Not Crying, There's Something In My Eye” Award says the game has to have blindsided you with feels. I was going to nominate Brothers, but I was expecting feels in Brothers. Ditto for Thomas Was Alone and To the Moon (and Spec Ops: The Line for that matter.)
The game that surprised me with feels where I had no expectation of them at all is Borderlands 2. As much as I loved Borderlands, it certainly wasn't the hollow nega-story or paper thin characters that endeared it to me. Borderlands 2 not only had a compelling story with a real emotional rollercoaster, but it retconned BL1's characters into something more substantive than they'd been for the hundreds of hours I'd played.
So there you go. One nomination down.
Now I need to decide if villian who needs a hug is Pre-Sequel or Tales from the Borderlands.

If you gonna buy it, buy it there, and get 6 more games for the same price.

Mordheim wins that award by a landslide... made me cry when i realized the game was absolute garbage and they were ruining one of my favorite IP's.

Climbing on enormous monsters, amazing magic, fun combat, etc

Dragon's Dogma is also in the Humble Monthly Bundle. So you get a bunch of mystery games to go with it.

Fun combat, for starters.
Really, aside from being open world (and even that is probably not accurate for DD), they really aren't that similar. Oh and people get into the Fashion aspects of both games, I suppose.

Re: Dragon's Dogma:

Much better fights and magic.
Skyrim may be good at many things, but not at actually fighting the same monsters, over and over and over and over and over
A lot of games profess to be "fantasy" and have "magic." Most of them are really terrible at actually making magic fun and workable. Hopefully Dragon's Dogma is able to. Skyrim suffers from the "you start off ultra squishy but eventually are godlike." Other games have the opposite problem where you just cannot compete at the end. Most games that have a mix of party members do ok. I've been unwilling to try magic in games like Grim Dawn because it usually ends up in a place where you just can't compete as effectively. That's my hard earned opinion over the years anyway.

Companion AI that learns enemy weaknesses and strategies based on observing the player.
Climbing up on dragons to stab them in the chest instead of tickling their toenails to death.
Combat that actually is fun and can vary between combo based to more positioning and timing based.
Climbing up on a lot of monsters to stab them in the weakpoint or cut off a tail or extra head.
More realized dungeons.
For the most part, it's really the combat. Fighting mooks feels good. Fighting big enemies feels epic. Some of the stuff you scamper across makes Alduin look tiny.

Good combat. Better story. More interesting locals. more variety in combat encounters and monsters. Better post game. Reasons to get to post game

I had the excact same reaction at Borderlands 2 plot - i played this game to have fun, not to have feels, damnit!
And it's no loot, no shooting, not humour, but characters are the reason that im waiting for any news about Borderlands 3.
And Pre-Sequel definitely deserves nomination more.

Isn't dragon's dogma the game where someone said they were here plinking away with a crossbow like the mage was calling down meteors, erupting pillars from the earth, calling huge lightning storms and so on? Had them wondering what they did with their life apparently. I'll climb on that boat eventually. Just want some other games first. MUST GET RIMWORLD. And sunless sea looks pretty fun too. Oh and Stardew Valley. And Grim Dawn... so.. yea. I'll get there.
yeah so, NIS lets get moving on you making some exlcusive disgaea games for the PC. I need the newer shit because I've already invested hundreds if not thousands of hours into the games you are porting over to steam.
I need some newer content to lose myself to.

Well then, Dragon's Dogma for soon on Humble Bundle Monthly thing, and then I have to figure out what to do with 27 bucks from my birthday. Thanks, folks!
Edit: One question, can I gift out those 6 other games or are they all locked to me?

They'll all be individual keys, so yes, you can do whatever you want with each game in the bundle.

Besides Dragon's Dogma over with the Humble Monthly, I've decided what I'll do this sale: DLC. I don't play games in my library if I don't have all the bits, because the chance that I'll come back around to them later is very slim. So most every game gets one pass and then I move on. So this sale, I'll just grab any DLC on my wishlist that's at or higher than a 75% discount, and instead of hurting my backlog, I can help it along some.

I personally never got in to Dragon's Dogma for whatever reason. I gave it a pretty fair shake, but it just never grabbed me. No idea why.

There is only one version of Dragon's Dogma on PC - Dark Arisen, and it's available both on Steam and Humble Monthly.
It is in this week's Humble Bundle for cheaper than Steam price plus it comes with a passel of other games if you were going to buy it anyway.
I put about five hours into it...
Yo dawg, you like clickin on stuff and pickin up loot? You like grainy colors and doing the same stuff over and over and over till your eyes bleed?
You are gonna have yourself the grimmest of dawns then.
Please note that this review also applies to literally every hack&slash arpg i've ever played so, ya know, there ya go.
