I'm not posting this to wind people up just to be clear, just that I think it's a legit discussion regarding how WWE does business. Some blog member asked the guy running it (who admits he doesn't like the current WWE product except for SDL recently) was asked, "Just curious who you think will be the next big call-up from NXT to Raw or Smackdown? Thanks Again." And his response?
"Why would anyone need to leave NXT? We can watch them every week on the WWE Network, just like HHH said. What’s the point of putting them on a show people actually watch when it’s a much better use of the investment to have them kill each other for 400 people a night on spot shows in Florida?
Man, clearly no one but HHH knows how to run a wrestling business."
I'm almost positive NXT still doesn't make WWE a profit still despite being so critically acclaimed. Is it not unreasonable to ask why they don't concentrate on putting this much effort into getting great talent on "actual" television? Would people really be OK with Nakamura staying in NXT his whole WWE career?
I think this was stemming from an interview HHH did where he questioned why people want talent (he used Nakamura as an example) to go to Raw so they can watch him every week when they can already watch him every week on NXT. To be honest, I'm with you and the blogger you quoted. I want Nakamura on Raw or Smackdown so people other than me will see how great he is.

Yeah this is true, but NXT is a place talent is (mostly) guaranteed to be treated well and used properly. What if Vince "doesn't get" Nakamura while he's on Raw or SDL?

Then Nakamura eventually breaks through on his own like Daniel Bryan, or he goes through the same thing as everyone else who Vince "doesn't get" has. Whatever that may be.

I don't know, I still think he's pissed at that same audience for fucking over his original Mania 30 plans and might not allow another situation like that to change his mind. Though Punk leaving started that ball rolling.
But he's pushed AJ Styles a hell of a lot more than I thought he would so who knows.

Is there a reason why we're not using Scott Keith's name?
Didn't think there was a need. I don't think anyone here really cares.
Wait

Fucking hell, next thing you'll tell me that CRZ is still around too.

Keith runs blogofdoom.com and it's surprisingly hugely popular. It's mostly a place people go to bitch about how terrible WWE is.
CRZ ran for mayor of his hometown some time ago! Lost though. Pretty sure he's still on twitter. Just checked and he is, however he doesn't seem to talk about wrestling anymore.

Not saying he's pissed at the result, but no one can deny how insanely stubborn and vindictive he can be.
He might even like Nak! Don't see why he wouldn't.
There are a lot of dudes behind the scene of the performance center. If all of those are counted as NXTs cost (The people that may train for years without ever really paying off...), it won't ever break even.
But NXT pays off in major ways:
1) It has greatly increased the standing of WWE with their core audience. It is very hard to find people who dislike NXT.
2) It has allowed an avenue for indie wrestlers to come in, serve some time NXT, and then progress to the main card as a Big Deal, while knowing the wrestle in the WWE style. This will happen to Samoa Joe, to Nakamura and Roode, it happened to Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and to a lesser extent Sami Zayn and Cesaro. This is great for just about everybody involved: The indie stars get to capstone their careers, the hardcore WWE fans get to see some dream matches on the biggest stages, the casual fans get exposition to new high quality superstars and the WWE gets to keep their product fresh and high quality by rotating through indie stars in the latter half of their 30s. Still prime and crisp, but probably not around for a long time. (Which I would argue is great for the product)
3) It has improved the quality of wrestlers they themselves develop. The baseline for talent coming up is pretty high now. It also allows for gimmick testing and stuff like themes.
4) It gives WWE a place to train staff, which no doubt pays off.
I was pondering early today that WWE is probably in the best state it has been in for a long time, from a wrestling fans perspective.
The amount of amazing matches is through the roof, the amount of amazing talent under contract is through the roof, and they're actively searching for new content. (Brand split, Dusty tournament, CW tournament, 205 live) The Womens division has been a revolution, even if the start was rocky and the brand split is probably hurting it. The average quality is also through the roof, I started watching again 5 years ago, when there was so many mediocre PPVs, with Big Show, Kane, Mark Henry, Ryback lumbering around, the tail end of the Nexus, endless Orton vs Cena matches and nothing Divas matches. The worst on the average PPV card in 2016 is probably upper half on a card 5 years ago.
The current champions are Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, Reigns and Miz, Charlotte and Bliss, Swans, AA and Cesaro/Sheamus. Of those, only Sheamus and Miz have been with the company for 5 years, and most shorter than 2. Nakamura, Asuka and #DIY are NXT champions and they are all great.
Reigns is often maligned and he is a mediocre promo with a limited wrestling style but if it wasn't for his booking he'd be a fine big man. And he is probably the worst of the whole bunch.
If the WWE was able to bring better writing, evoke more consistent emotion, and engage better with its crowds, it would be hailed as the third golden era of wrestling. They have everything in place.
NXT has brought back fans who stopped watching, including myself and friends of mine I talked to about it. There are friends of mine who have Network subs to watch NXT because word of mouth convinced them.
stop speculating as to what vince mcmahon is thinking like anyone has any fucking idea
A former WWE writer was asked about why he likes to have home town guys lose in their home towns a lot now and he speculated that because Vince has "done it all" due to being in the business since 1982 he's pretty much bored and wants to do things against the grain even if they don't make sense.
Yeah, I watched the Attitude Era, dropped out after the Ruthless Aggression Era and came back at the start of 2015, and right now I think this is better than either of those Eras. Just the match quality itself is astounding, almost unprecedented in how even at its worst it still manages to be decent. I watched a list about the worst PPV matches of 2016 and I saw Nia Jax v Alicia Fox, and then I remembered Sable v Tori and Nicole Bass and B.B. and thought "shit, that crappy preshow match is still better than the Title Matches from back in the day.
And now with Talking Smack, it feels like they've finally figured out how do still do kayfabe in the age of the Internet.
Of all the things that sucked in 2016, wrestling did just the opposite. It's been a pretty good refuge from the madness outside the doors.
A couple of WWE legends appear to be headed to Raw on January 9th. Wrestling Inc reports that localized Facebook ads in the New Orleans area are advertising a “special appearance” by Shawn Michaels and Undertaker’s Raw return.
Michaels could be promoting his new film The Resurrection of Gavin Stone, which releases on January 20th. It is worth noting that as of this writing, neither WWE.com nor the Smoothie King Center website are advertising the two.

It's because it's free mega heat and the face loses nothing for it, If anything the fans love the face even more.
Anyone who thinks NXT is supposed to be turning a profit is missing the point; it's not a revenue stream, it's an investment.
It's investing in the future of the company and making sure that they have a steady pool of talent to pull from so that Raws and Smackdowns and PPVs can keep making profits.
The fact that NXT does well enough on its own to tour and have merchandise is just a bonus, one that helps recoup some of the costs of doing business.

NXT probably also does a lot for locker room morale. It's a good way to filter out locker room cancers before they can poison the talent pool. A friendlier locker room is a locker room that doesn't lose the company money by chasing off scores of talent with toxic behavior and physical violence.
Yeah, there are still assholes in the main roster, but those numbers are way down from previous WWE eras. Some of the stories from the 80s to the 00s are a horror show.

Undertaker making his first appearance since his big I'M NOT FADING AWAY promo being on the completely other show than the one he is actually drafted to is hilarious
The whole point of the draft is making the shows distinct entities
It's the reason they treated Survivor Series like a huge WORLDS COLLIDE type deal
If Undertaker is drafted to Smackdown, he should be showing up on Smackdown otherwise why even do the draft
Cena hasn't been showing up on Raw since the draft and he's just as big of a star
