I've also noticed that occasionally when you're viewing a dish it'll have a character sprite in the corner and a word bubble with a heart. Does that mean they get an extra bonus when you cook it?

I suck at using guns.
Also man I hope they patch in a move list for the weapons.

It means they crit more and get bonus XP for whatever technique is equipped.
Also, holy shit the dungeons you guys. I just did an optional one with enemies mostly around my level, and it was tense as hell. Seems like there's lots of enemies with some scary attacks you need to dodge well.

Also if Noctis eats his favorite dish instead of boosting his tech learn rate, as he doesn't have techniques, he just boosts the rate at which the tech bar fills.
Asked before, but is there ever a sidequest that prompts you to enter a dungeon, or are they purely "stumble onto one, try your luck at your own peril" type things?

Not that I've seen.

When it crits, it buffs the whole party with Regen, and it counts for the Recovery Ascension bonuses and buffs your attack and defense and whatever else you have learned in the way of stat bonuses for taking someone out of danger or refilling their health.

I don't think I've seen it crit yet, or seen it give regen. I wonder if those bonus effects are tied to the level of the skill? I need to feed Ignis his favorite dish more often.
I really appreciate the thought and effort they put into fishing in this game. Honestly, the fishing in this game is good enough to be in some sort of Bass Masters game. It's pretty good.
I mean, granted I haven't played a fishing game since like the Super Nintendo era, so I honestly don't know what the good fishing games are doing these days. But the fishing in FFXV is pretty solid. It's certainly a lot more interesting and fleshed out than most games with fishing, where the entire mini-game is "Wait for exclamation mark and then hit X."
if you just started fishing, take a break then camp/rest. the first level makes your lines last longer, which is huge. I also assume there's a better version of the same perk later in the tree
I think I'm a bit biased because the ps3 pre-order gives you better fishing gear, which also really helps you jump into it right away without feeling like it's too close.
Yeah I've been enjoying the fishing. Nice way to take a little break ingame.
It's also very endearing that noctis is pretty apathetic about everything, but mention fishing and he is IN. And all his friends seem to know this and give him grief about it.

I'm a sucker for a good fishing game, as simple as stardew valleys one I enjoyed that so much. This is kinda like sega bsss fishing without the depth. I think it's the line tension constant movement that makes it a bit much. It's not great but it's playable. The lures are a nice touch.
As mentioned before, the link up animations are great and certainly make the combat feel more dynamic.
Yeah I think the fish stamina being bigger but less left and right movement would be a better balance I think. It feels like I barely have time to reel
I think that your level versus the fish helps give more reel time. I'm level 4 at fishing now and I've noticed that many fish are much easier to handle now.
Yeah I would say that would be a thing, I'm only level 2 fishing and haven't played around with location, time and lures yet.
It would make sense as the level in skill increases that would happen less. I did snag a monster and it jumped lots with very little stamina damage, and shredded my line in no time.
Had my first "oh that's some bullshit" moment in this game.
I'm in chapter 3, travelling around during the day. While I'm walking back to my car a bunch of soldiers drop down right in front of my car and proceed to annihilate my team (dudes with guns are maybe the least fun thing to fight in this game).
I end up having to retreat several times and slowly pick away at them just to start driving again.
Speaking of fishing, when/where can I buy a better rod and reel? Just a chapter number or city/outpost name is fine if it's in any way spoilerish.
I'm not sure about the chapter number or location but there's a few side-quests with a fisherman where he'll ask you to catch a specific fish. On the second one of those, he'll give you a better rod.
There's a lot going in which is good thing. When it was pitched as open world I was definitely expecting smaller I'm so happy it's larger. Which if I may say looks bloody fantastic in places.
You can put it in spoilers, but I'd like to know how far you got into the game and what was the final straw for this determination. I'm curious if you got to the final chapters or it was something earlier.

Oh it's huge and absolutely gorgeous. There is just so much filled in that finding it all is daunting.
I like this game but there are a lot of little things that annoy the crap out of me
I'm not really in love with the battle system. It isn't *bad* but very often I just lose total grasp of what the fuck is going on. Very often I'll be fighting and a bush or shrub gets in the way of the camera. The control scheme is weird and unintuitive (I started on control scheme "A" and moved to "C", which is better but still not great). I don't really know how to describe it but it feels like the "tightness" of the battle system is lacking.
I dunno maybe I just need to get better at the game. I am enjoying it despite these criticisms and will continue to play it. I don't regret getting it by any means.

Permanent lock on helps. I had trouble before that.

The ingredients are also expensive and of course all of Ignis' favorite dishes are super fancy.
Luckily you get tons of money from hunts.
Also...gonna get this super charger for my car cause gotta go fast.
Noct jumped up in the air, Ignis threw his javelin to him, and Noct came crashing down with a spear in each hand.
Love this game.

Not that I've seen.
Man, I'm fucked aren't I? I bet something really awesome is tied to Fishing. But ugh I still haven't seen a game with a decent/fun fishing minigame.
It's so much easier getting infinite sprint timing down using the animation instead of the bar.

There's actually nothing tied to it sadly.
It's really fun though for a fishing game once you get the hang of it.

I don't care how mess of a story this game is, it's won me on these friends taking a road trip.
