Man, Nep games go really really fast once you've figured out the formula. Slot highest hit count Rush Combo, spam until gauge is full, unleash. Heal with Compa as required. Will probably do a NG+ run of 3 at some point to get True End - got Good End and figured that was enough for the BL Challenge.

Also ran through Press X To Not Die. Was amusing for the twenty minutes or so the run lasted. I'd say it was worth the buck or so I paid for it.

Eventide: Slavic Fable is your basic hidden object game. Parts of it are beautiful and parts of it are really just odd. Bonus points for including some Slavic folklore, which you don't see as much of. Characters and story were pretty bad though (not that they're normally great in HOGs). I feel like this image sums it up pretty well. (Heads-up: It's super spoilery, from the end of the game, if you care about the story in this one.)

Team Centurion-Phalanx (And-Also-Two-Other-Guys) continued heisting halfway through the Pickpocket storyline. I think we're over halfway through with our expected levels at this point and they're definitely a lot more challenging than they used to be!

Ugh.. hit a snag on my first backlog game. It's a small indy game called Shiny; I've been fighting with it for awhile now (I'll eventually put up a more detailed review if I ever finish it) until I got to a level that was entirely pitch black. I figured it was just another bad design decision, and that I was supposed to try to complete the level essentially blindfolded (there's a low enough amount of collectibles that it seemed possible, but I eventually got stuck) Looking online and it turns out that it is a bug in the game. Unfortunately the last time the devs talked about an update that would fix it was October.

EDIT: Tried it on my laptop and got the same problem. I'm tempted to just post a screenshot of the black screen and count that as the "ending"

...Goodness neppin' gracious, did you fast-forward through all the dialogue? I've spent 55 hours in Re;Birth 3 and only got the Normal End. (Then again I do play at quite a leisurely pace sooo)

Just started playing ABZU. It's real pretty, but the controls took some fiddling to get used to (inverted swimming controls I'm fine with, but inverted camera? No thanks)

Also I took a screenshot and it worked fine, so the people who were having issues with that earlier, it might just be you? The game also is forcing itself into 1080P when I'm running Windows at 720P, so little things on the corners like the FPS counter are getting cut off. Still pretty, though.

Mugen Souls has some fun dialogue and characters but I am really starting to hate this Moe Kill dialogue mini game to unlock Master Points on the map. Because there's only a couple correct dialogue combos and it's random which ones you'll even get.

Oh, and the main character has this special attack called a Peon Ball. It will randomly choose to arm itself and, if the protagonist's turn comes around again, it will explode automatically. What this means tends to be instant, unavoidable, unblockable Game Over if you don't end the fight in that round. It is complete and utter bullshit and cost me an hour's worth of progress because you can only prevent it by playing the stupid dialogue minigame in battle (not advised because Charm levels are so low in the first go-around) or turn on Peon Commands and enact them as they come up. Only, if you CAN'T do what it wants it'll penalize you by increasing the chance for said random explosion. Because that is just so fucking fun.

This whole backlog challenge isn't working for me. I took two weeks of vacation after Christmas, which combined with illness turned into a whole lot of gaming and reading time. The backlog competition instead involves the two weekends with NFL games on both Saturday and Sunday. At my house, that means potluck dinners with the host expected to outperform any incoming dishes. Today we succeeded. Fortunately, tomorrow the bar is a bit lower with the 10am start time and poached eggs on toast with bacon is enough.

I've played a few of the shortest games in my collection so I can contribute to my team. Thirty Flights of Loving was a trip. Thanks @shdwcaster for that one. I don't buy that being weird is inherently artistic, but it was both weird and incredibly interesting. Sword of Asumi was something I thought was more than a VN, but I was mistaken. Highschool Possession was something I expected to be a porn game. Well, it was pretty much a porn game, but it had an unexpected amount of empathy.

I have a few more shorter VNs queued up along with Wolfentein. There are also a bunch of RPGs on the list, but I assume most of them would take me far longer than the official time to complete.

Also, I'm pretty sure the timing of this competition was deliberate. Obviously @CorriganX is trying to distract people from the national sport of America. Why does he want people to skip the NFL playoffs? What does he have gain? Who benefits? We will continue to instigate.

As a Bears fan, screw the NFL, Backlog Challenge uber alles! Or something. I don't think I've seen a full game's worth of football this entire season. A far cry from 4 years ago when I was still into it enough that I paid for Sunday Ticket so I could watch the Bears while living out of state.

Also, baseball is still the national pastime.

Anybody have any idea what would constitute completion for Mini Metro? I hadn't played it before and it looked relaxing, so I dove into it after seeing it listed as 4 hours to complete. After sinking a couple of hours into it though, I'm really not sure what completion would actually mean for this game.

Baseball is the national pastime, but football is the national sport. However, @CorriganX could be a Bears fan, upset at both the inability of the Bears to make the playoffs as well as the Packers tying the oldest NFL rivalry at 94 wins each. #CorriganConspiracy #CorriganIsABearsFan #Corrigan<3Bears

Also, I'm really not sure what counts as finishing Mini Metro anymore than one could finish a game of footie with an unending clock. There's no finish line; one is done when one is done. #CorriganIsResponsible

Baseball is about as much fun to play as it is to watch, bleh.

If it's anything like last years backlog challenge, completion is getting to the credits screen or the ending vid without clicking credits from the main menu. For a game that doesn't have an ending along that sense it's probably a better idea to play something else for the challenge. It's all in fun and maybe you could get some credit for saying you're done with it after spending 4 hours playing it?

Yeah, that's definitely my bad. Since the How Long to Beat site gave an actual number for completion, I thought there would be some recognizable point that I could consider done. I realized a bit too late that there wouldn't really be such a thing. And since I have less free time than I originally expected for the challenge, I'd rather not have to throw the time I've put in aside. It isn't time wasted, since playing has been fun, but I'd like it to count if at all possible.

    Also, I am a bunny :P

9 Clues 2: The Ward down. This was a key I nabbed out of a keydump a few days ago, and I TRY to put games I've been gifted or nabbed from the forum nearish to the top of the stack.

For a hidden object / puzzle game, it was kind of light on both and took less than four hours to play. Short or no, however, it was one of the more fun HOGs I've played recently; being set in an asylum let them really turn up the creepy factor and there's a surprising amount of murder & mayhem.

Also I've taken two other games off my backlog after roughly 90 minutes of playtime each, so that's one way to take a couple of bricks out of the impenetrable wall of shame.

Possibly bad metaphor. It's 4:45 AM, what you get is what you get.

I actually started playing it last night too, except I was pleasantly surprised that the default controls were inverted camera and inverted swimming!

That being said, I saw there was an option to change those settings in the pause menu. I found it weird that they didn't put it in the options on the title screen.

So that's 4 games completed over the weekend, with a 5th soon to be done hopefully tommorrow.
Just some quick Reviews I guess before I kill over for hours of sleep.

    1. Oxenfree
Goddamn. this game was amazing. The characters are wonderful and the gameplay was quite smooth as well. It has enough spooky moments that it's a little spooky but not so much that you should be put off from playing it. if anything the spooky moments draw you in and make you want to find out what is going on.
If you haven't played it, Put it at the top of your list.

    2. To The Moon
The first game in quite some time that made me genuinely mad at something one of the main characters was doing. Not because it was something bad either story or mechanical wise but because I was genuinely invested. The story had me hooked completely and the characters are well developed. It's not too long so it's definitely worth picking up and playing if you are into a great narrative. My only issue was the controls could be a little janky sometimes but it wasn't that much of a problem that I wouldn't recommend it.

    3. Broken Sword 1
I LOVE POINT AND CLICKS. <3 And this series is one of the best. I have played the later editions but haven't played a lot of the earlier ones. Everything was still excellent. The story holds up and even back at the beginning of the series the characters were the same. Witty and sarcastic, this game had it all. In some ways it is a lot like the uncharted series except if it was a point and click adventure. Highly recommend picking all of them up. the earlier ones visually can feel a bit dated but there is no harm jumping in at the later series as each game is fairly self contained story wise.

    4. Morphopolis
Another point and click. This one was ok. To be honest it was a bit boring. The visuals were great but the controls felt sluggish and overly convoluted sometimes. Tracking was a bit poor.
It just frustrated me a little too much to really get into it. If you like point and clicks and arty styles it might be worth grabbing in a bundle or on sale but I find it hard to justify going out of your way to grab it.

Steam overlay/screenshots aren't working for Shadow Warrior 2 either, which is a pissed because I came across two bunnies doing what bunnies do and there were lots of little hearts and that would have been bloody awesome for "Does that make this home?" :(

if you're having problems with the steam overlay, just hit prntscreen and paste it into imgur and i'll accept that. Keeping it on steam is just easier, but its more important to get credit for the stuff you find. If anyone is having problems with steam or anything, just send me any other links (Imgur is a great site for small links, hinthint) and we'll get it sorted.

I want to remind our Backlog Warriors group members that when you send your screenshots to Corrigan, take an extra moment to past that link into the Player of the Week thread over in the discussions for our group as well. Bery skated in under the wire with five game shots last night, and got player of the week. Note, the numbers reset today, so from now until the 14th, the Backlog Warriors beaten game counts start anew (i.e. being clear that this is tangential to the backlog battle currently running). And you can totally wait until the 11th hour and post all the games you beat that week, if you want, just remember to post!

I'm trying to whittle my way through the shortest games I have first, and to that point, yesterday I took an hour and beat 404Sight, a simple little runner game made to promote net neutrality.

    ABZU complete!

There were a few niggles. It took me a while to get used to the controls. There isn't a ton of bare-knuckled 'gameplay.' And it's not super long (which is a plus for me, but a consideration for folks considering plunking down $20 for it.)

On the plus side, it is crazy beautiful. Colorful and vivid and alive (except where it's not, which is effective for the absence.) It's basically an underwater wallpaper generator. Also the soundtrack is amazing. It creeps up on you, but then you hit a point in the game where it kicks into gear and you're like, holy cow this is a John Williams moment right here. And the 'story' is pretty cool, and enough to keep you moving along from underwater venue to another.

Big thanks to @Berylline for this back at the start of the last Winter Dale! <3

KR0 is different in a lot of ways but similar in some ways as well.

I could write a lot of rambling about it but I think it'd be better for you to experience it for yourself. Just... don't play it all in one go. Play one episode, then take a week off. It's a game that actually benefits from not remembering every detail precisely.

It's sort of in the same vein where you choose dialogue to give details to the story. It's less supernatural horror and more modern life horror though.

Still it is amazing but unfinished and there is at least one additional free game on their website you can try out but it has some minor spoilers.

See, thats why we have Backlog Challenges. The rest of the year we're playing games without ends, these 2 1/2 weeks are the only time we actually make progress towards beating games.

I also just beat Oxenfree last night (CorriganX, I'll PM the screenshot at some point today).

That ending went from like a 3 to a 9 in 10 seconds. That was great.

As a sidenote, is there any good way to take a screenshot with Steam Link/Controller? I happened to have a wireless keyboard plugged in too, so I could take the shot, but I couldn't figure that out.
