so what does it mean when a damage number has an exclamation point on it? I thought my Riftstrike was dealing like 2k damage but now that I look closely it looks more like 215! damage or something.
I mean granted I really like the hammer so maybe I shouldn't talk
Hammer is only boring if you're not using its mechanics.
EDIT: Stop putting apostrophes in the word 'its' when it's not a contraction dummy! /self
Oh I’m using them
It’s just that for a lot of fights this means I use exactly one combo, end with the big slam, get boosted ammo, and then use the same combo again, end with the big slam, repeat repeat repeat
It’s satisfying as hell, especially with the sound design and the stagger boosting cells I’ve got, but it’s also not requiring me to think as much as like, the charge blade or the switch axe, y’know
Wait, there are other ways to use the hammer than "light light light heavy" over and over?
Hmm, not sure I believe you.
There are different lights depending on how you hold direction though, uppercuts vs spins that can matter for how many hits you get as well as where those hits are.

Critical hit. Double damage. Riftstrike does less total than the base special overall because the base one tends to hit multiple hitboxes. Pretty sure it always crits.
With hammer, you can also boost each swing, and instant reload in-between each hit of the combo. This way you get boosted hits and still have 4 phials for the big explosion, one of which is still overcharged. No idea if this is good for your damage though.
If you know you don't have time for a full combo, you can sneak in some damage with a single boosted swing and the explosion dodge to get out

The rocket jump>swing is also good for quick hits since you can close in fast with it.

Even more useful once you have Impulse Crown to slot in there. Starting to think I like it more than weighted crown with the right cell setup
So for anyone who has been playing since beta, what's been the pace of content additions to this point? The stuff that's here is great, but I'm working through it pretty quickly even at just an hour or two a day. I saw the roadmap on the site but it doesn't mention anything about new behemoths or new weapons, which isn't super encouraging? Or maybe they just don't put that there because it's an always in progress thing?

Just looking at their patch notes and going from my shotty memory, i think the last weapon they added was about 8 months back, the behemoths have been kind of scattered usually 2-3 months apart.
I really wish people could be a bit smarter about self rezzes. Like yes, wasting them is bad, but if someone isn't going to be able to get to you for 15+ seconds (you're under the monster/in a bad spot/your team is on target and doing a lot of damage) all you're doing is wasting dps and jacking up the danger meter. It just seems like my parties have gone from "self rez all the time even if someone is already getting you up" to "never rez yourself ever" in the span of about a week.
I played back in beta and they've, like, doubled the number of monsters and weapons. It was originally sword, chainblades, hammer.
The content is pretty quick when you stop wanting because you want and compare it to other games instead. I feel like this can pretty reliably hit at least a Warframe model.
What is this I don't even.

Most monsters have at least one interruptable attack. They'll have lines over their head during it. Hitting them with a heavy enough blow will knock them out of it they'll tumble to the ground for a beating.
Usually this means an axe charge, hammer discharge, or war pike shot, though other attacks can work and there's a skill to make many more attacks work.
You stun a behemoth out of certain moves using the hammer, Pike, and sword. Each uses a different move but basically during certain attacks you can hit the monster and not only interrupt the attack but stun or knock down the monster.

The most obvious attacks that can be booped (that I can think of) are Embermane's long charge, where he runs a long ass ways away, then charges at you, and Shrike's very similar attack, just while flying. In both of these, if you can connect various attacks before they hit you, they'll go flopping off and lay there stunned for a bit. This is usually pretty easy with hammer, just hit RMB/Triangle/Y as they come in, and they fall over (I'm always super bad with the timing on this, and is way harder for me than it should be).
"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
Skarn setting up for the tornado move is also a really good tell
Gotta let him get setup, spin for a second or so, then you can get the boop off on him
It's currently the only one I'm having a hard time consistently booping. Most of the time I still do it too late and am met with a boulder's loving embrace

Also its big "look at what i can do pose" when it gets up on its hind legs before stomping the ground. It requires a bit more precision as you have boop it straight in the face, but a simple over hand swing with the sword/axe/hammer does the trick.
I used to panic and try to search faster when I saw my team had engaged a behemoth (due to health bars dropping) without any flares, now i'm just like "y'know what? fuck y'all" and i start leisurely gathering every plant I see until i stumble upon them. If they can't be bothered to send up a flare I can't be bothered to stumble around for them...this happens a depressingly large amount of times

You CAN do this with things like the chainblades too, but it requires +6 in weighted strikes or whatever it's called to get you over the threshold for the boop hit.

Seriously. Its not that hard to flare.

It's probably unfair for me to expect people to micromanage their cells between every fight, but does anyone else sigh a bit whenever they see molten cells drop against any non-fire behemoth? Have some pride in what you do people

You can also boop him in the stomach when he stands up. It might be harder to aim, I’ve only done it with the pike blast. Sometimes it looks more like I shot him straight in the dick.

The pike special can do it. If you’re a bit away and start charging it up (holding down the button), the tornado helpfully turns you right into line and you can just BLAST.
He’s the only one I can reliably boop, cuz I don’t gotta aim or time anything.

On the one hand, it's more like monster hunter
On the other hand, it's a mechanic I wouldn't know existed without internet guides, since the visual indicator is non-existent on my PS4

It's just 3 or 4 red lines above the head which depending on your angle/camera can be difficult to see, also not all staggerable attacks have them either.

Yeah, this game has serious trouble running on PS4. Charrog and hellion fights turn into slideshows once the lava starts coming out.
My apologies if there's a backlog of guild invites. I ended up not logging into Dauntless last night; to be honest I might not be able to give out invites tonight either. At worst, it'll be Friday night.
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

I think Charogg might be my second least favorite fight in the game right now after Boreas. He’s not particularly hard, it just feels like kind of a slog for some reason.

I heard people in the subreddit complaining about Valomyr and was expecting him to be a really tough fight. Then when I show up it turns out he has one of the most hammerable faces I've ever seen plus he poops out buffs pretty regularly? Wut?

The main thing with him is the swirly light orbs. If you're careful about those he's a chump. If not... human pinball game!
