Heyyyyyyyy man the Riftstalker is a really shitty fight. The amount of damage he does, and the speed with which he charges (or warp spins or whatever) is absolutely insane. Easily 10x harder than any fight leading up to it, for me.
When he goes into the phase where he spams his spinning attack out of portals if you hop up onto a ledge or rock he can't hit you.

For the warp spin you just put your weapon away and start running in a big circle. If a portal opens that looks like it's facing you tap dodge and he misses. Since your weapon isn't out you don't spend stamina running, so you can do this all day.
The reason the fight is awful is because it constantly does things you just can't hit it during (the warp spin and the shadow world thing).
So I fought my first heroic boreas and I figured out why I hated dire boreas in the first place - for whatever reason every time I’d fought the dire version I ended up being alone, and the number of adds doesn’t scale with people on the hunt. Which is super obnoxious. In a full 4 man it was much, much easier, even on heroic.
Does anyone know if elemental weapons are actually weaker against that element, or if they just don't get the bonus damage? It's sort of unclear to me because armor is pretty explicit about having bonuses and negatives, whereas weapons don't. Some guy on a scorchstone hellion just gave me no end of shit for not switching out my weapon. I didn't, partly out of spite and partly because I figured my 460 hellion spear was probably better than my 380 electric spear.
It didn't matter anyway, because that guy and his friends just kept dying until they stayed dead. Which I said must have been because of my blaze weapon.
I just had a fight against sparkle beetle guy. Me (guns), two chain blades, and a sword. Someone goes down almost instantly, and a second not long after. The three are mostly keeping each other up, but it's not great. We hit 100% before it moves on to the next area. Two go down, can't get up, and leave the game. Me and the other guy get him to move on. The next phase is going better, the melee guy is being more careful and breaks a couple legs. I jump in and charge up when I can and otherwise just keep plonking away. Guy goes down, out of revives, but doesn't leave. I keep at it, but it's taking too long. I start taking risks and getting hit. I run out of healing and am downed twice. I blow up its face, but have less then 5 minutes left. The other player is still there and sends me a friend request. Tick tick. Plonk plonk. It goes down a with 20 seconds left.

I seem to recall in early release it was the case that bad elemental match-ups gave you reduced damage, but in live it appears as if you just don't get the bonuses. Also, that's a great story.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but the way I read it, you absolutely do less damage against a Blaze behemoth with a Blaze weapon (or whatever element).
That said, I think a weak 460 is still better than a 380 with no bonus. So @Grundlestiltskin still made the best choice, I think. I'm not 100% sure on the math.
Also, who is the Guild Master? I'm really looking for dudes to play with that aren't randos.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those stats in crafting. They really ought to add those to the hunt screen.
Correct, there's one line of gear per behemoth type. As you level it you'll need parts from the more dangerous versions of those behemoths.
Neutral gear isn't weak to anything, it's a nice set to dump your orbs into early since you can wear it to any fight without a penalty.
Flowers and rocks are used to craft consumables, potions, pylons, and grenades. I'm not sure if you can see the flower picking animation on other players.
I don't remember that exact pistol quest but basically the pistols have 4 different parts and you can mix and match the different versions. Barrels determine damage type, cylinders give you your x ability, grip gives you your y ability, and prisms are like the extra effect some weapons have

I should note that it just randomly gives you a level 11 prism at mastery... 8 or so? Like, that has to have been a typo somewhere - you'll get that way before you can normally upgrade anything that high.
I know I suddenly got a gunpart +10 which shoots piercing lightning instead of the (3) charged missile(s).
I don’t dare to use it as it may be considered cheating.
In the mastery it says that I crafted it (I don’t recall), but I haven’t got the +6 and +10 checked, while the +10 is in my inventory.
So there must be something buggy there.
The cool thing about repeaters is that you can mix it up; you are not bound to having an ice weapon in order to have the dodge-ice-mines. Or you can have a fire gun which does the radiant charge.
The disadvantage is, when you complete a regular weapon mastery card, you have a new xp bar that gives you a reward after 4500 xp. However, a mastered gun part only gets a reward after 18000 xp, because a gun is actually 4 weapons at the same time. It takes 4 times longer.
Every piece of armor has a different innate bonus, and different cell slots. So every piece can be useful in the right build.
Galaxy brain: Not giving a crap about what the resistances are (other that being sure you’re not just guttering a weak element), going all on perks/cell setup.
I still haven't found the kind of endgame armor I want to stick with, but I'm happy with my current look. Also just saving most of my transmogs right now due to how they work. BEHOLD! The color, purple!

I'm not familiar with other Monster Hunter type games, but I wonder if Dauntless might benefit from some kind of trade/barter shop? Like, I have all my Gnasher gear built and upgraded, so every time I get a random Gnasher on a hunt, I'm getting all these claws and snouts I just don't have a use for any longer. You can't really view your inventory, but it's probably overflowing with Gnasher snouts going to waste. I wouldn't mind being able to trade, like, 5 snouts for an Arcstone or something.

Ugh, hit a grinding wall. I can't kill a Bloodfire Embermane to get materials to upgrade my fire weapon, without a better fire weapon I can't kill a Dreadfrost Boreus to get materials to upgrade my ice weapon to kill the Embermane. Same with upgrading armor to survive the fights.

Have you tried crafting up a different elemental weapon (or neutral) to use as a stopgap?
At a minimum, you should be able to kill him in a group even with the fire weapon.

Yeah I was using my radiant weapon (which I upgraded to +7 pretty easily because Valomyr is a pushover), and off-element armor that's also +7. I usually switch to the appropriate element of armor because it has burning/freeze protection, but it's still at +5. I can't tell which is better to use.

I really don't understand the guild interface, is it just bugged?
I see "PaxArcadia, Members 38/100." Then below that I see "24 guild members," and then I have the ability to scroll through about 7 of them. What gives?
Shrowd and Rezakiri down, and got my radiant axe to +13. I think I finally figured out the mastery system; I had been stuck at level 26 forever. Maybe it's obvious to everyone else, but you only progress in levels by finishing off the miniquests (ie fight embermane wearing embermane gear, stagger nayzaga 10 times, etc). So just grinding patrols while using the same gear and same weapon like I was doing does great on orbs, but doesn't progress you in levels, which is important because all the mastery rewards are locked behind those. The good news is once you complete a weapons mastery card, further xp you earn with it unlocks cores periodically even though it doesn't progress you on the mastery scale.
I really need to make a Godhand though. I randomed into a Rezakiri fight where the other three people all had one, and they basically just spread out and lasered him to death. Getting more neutral skullgems is a pain though (break the head within 2 minutes on 8+ threat).

Hellion vs. Terra beast should be just “regular” damage. It’s outside the “terra/lightning” pair, so doesn’t matter. You made the right call.

I've gotta learn the axe
between this post and a gif I saw of a guy booping a behemoth charging his teammate with an axe thrown from across the field

I got the revive based helmet, but am now a bit sad that it wasn't the hammer or spear.
It seems like there's a single set of gear of each type and then you just upgrade them?
What's the point on Neutral gear? Elemental gear seems to have the same neutral stat.
The gun guy is asking me to pick parts but I don't know what they mean.
edit: What is the stuff you can pickup in the open world for? I almost never see people pick flowers/rocks, they just beeline for the boss.
It’s not a very important country most of the time
