Warpike also feels really weak. Doesn't help that I can't reliably trigger the repeating stab at the end of the basic combo.
oh god yes, that stab is hard to do. And the big numbers of fully charged shots are neat but the regular combos probably need some love. The wounding mechanic of it is probably to blame. What I've been able to find out about it makes it sound like it should just be removed completely.
I don't think this'll be a game I go hard on like monster hunter, but I'll like having it handy to knock out a few games a month over the course of a year
Played this for a bit today and it's enjoyable but seems tamer than I was expecting at least as far as things like weapon variety and upgrading and all that good stuff. I was expecting way more in the way of crafting stuff via monster parts. On the other hand, I've never played a MH style game before so as an introduction to the genre I'm digging on this! I'm just not sure if it's gonna have legs once MH:W finally drops for PC.
In the meantime, though, I am rather enjoying the fact that they combined a giant god damn hammer with a giant god damn shotgun. It's like they knew I was gonna try this game and crafted a weapon specifically designed to appeal to me. The only way this could get any better is if it was somehow a flamethrower too.
Chain scythes are fun but absolutely underpowered for dps compared to hammer. They want to be dual blades in close with a ranged poke option that burns stamina. But they animation lock way too much.
I dunno, maybe I'm just bad with the hammer but I'm finding I can be WAAAAAY more aggressive with the chainblades letting me really get in and shred things. The dodge is super fast and spammy, the Q ability is amazing, and the long range attacks give me something to do when normally everyone else would need to back off. I've got to be way more measured with the hammer causing me to feel like I'm not pulling my weight while the Chain Blades just clicked the second I started using them. Every fight has become an episode of Will It Blend.

A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
At high level play, Chainblade builds with either apply a debuff on hit or they'll spec Medic and take responsibility for all the rezzing. (I'm still newb, I've just been watching YouTube videos)
I'm really trying to like the war pike, but I spend way too much time just trying to get into position to do my piddly 80-90-damage hits and get 2-3 hits in before I have to reposition.
edit: this was against Embermane though, got a lot more damage in once the other three scrubs were downed at 100% danger. 8->
...however, if you can fill your war pike meter and are fighing something slow like a Skarn or Charrogg, you can just stay glued to it and spam your heavy attack until the cows come home.
@Echo I’m Konphujun in game as well, I would like a clan invite when you have a chance.
Also, even watching videos, I cannot get axe to work for me. I keep getting hung up wanting to charge the attack and eating a hit right before I let it go. Even knowing this, I can’t stop doing it. I think it’s just not for me. Meanwhile, the hammer is the best thing running. Hits hard, easy boops, interrupts for days when you can focus the head. Just so good.

I can't get over how long the heavy attack animations are. Coming from sword, it feels kinda useless.

It also has a deceptive range. I frequently feel that I'm in range and then whiff the attack.
...yeah, I'll just not do Embermane in groups. There's just 25% chance he'll stick on me, and as soon as his tail is off I can just stay at his rear legs and keep poking him forever. Not so much if he keeps running off to someone else.
Is there a way to get cores besides leveling? I have a stack of mods but I'm super hesitant to play with these things cause I don't wanna waste them experimenting.

Mods as in the Cells? They can be safely removed from gear for 50 Notes.
That is, removed and reused.

Err..yeah, the Cells. Sorry, my Warframe soaked brain filtered that into mods haha. Thanks!
I'm Sejarki in game, and would love a guild invite.
I've been deep in this game for the past week. The hooks dig so deep. The learning and difficulty curve is so good. It's delicious.

I’ve been using the hammer (cause it’s bitch’n) and I thought I had a pretty good handle on it. Then I watched a video guide on the hammer and was all, “That’s fucking awesome!”
So much to practice now.

Yeah, I think I'm starting to "get" this game today. I ran the Skarn last night for the first time with some randos and we barely pulled it off. I ran him solo today to try and figure the boss out without other shit distracting me and whomped the Skarn like it was nothing since I was able to focus better and finally figured all the tells out. Now I'm that guy as I run this fight with randos again who just seems to magically know wtf is going on and barely gets hit.
My shiny new max upgraded Skarn armor sure is pretty ^_^

Also, remember to check your daily/weekly quests in the journal. Some of them award cores that will break open into cells
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

The hammer's reload hit does NOT have to be perfectly timed! After you start your swing just start smashing Q and you'll still get it. I don't think anything on this weapon needs to be timed tbh cause I'm smashing out the shot charge and the reload hit and chaining things pretty reliably and landing the full Charge Hit -> Reload hit X4 -> Super Shotgun thing now. Basically Left Click, mash right click, mash reload, repeat.
Finally got my gear up to 350 level to unlock the heroic hunts and final two bosses. The drops are starting to get real hard to farm, hoping to get a specific color drop from a part is amusing. I had a friend getting angry because he couldnt get a drop, then when it finally dropped it was purple instead of blue that he needed.
All in all, I am thoroughly enjoying the game for what it is. I am still super excited for MHW but this is doing a good job of keeping me entertained.

I noticed that the open beta patch notes say that improvements are coming to chain blades in the future.

Especially when I'm convinced that I'd hit with the sword at the same range.

Actually ended up in a random group with some PA players!
Very importantly: Rarer ones cost more.
