I decided I'm going to try my hand at arena a little bit more. I drafted what seems like a decent but probably not great deck. Some solid minions all the way up the curve, almost no spells except for x1 Backstab, x1 Deadly Poison, x1 Journey Below. I figure I can probably get four wins out of this.
First game is against a warrior. With two Bloodhoof Braves, a Death's Bite, and on turn 8 he plays a Gorehowl. Gorehowl!
At least on ladder you know when you'll be outclassed.
I have been playing a lot of Renolock and just playing the long value game since I don't have Leeroy. Tech'ed Brewmaster to be able to grab Reno, Kazakus, Kabal Courier and Peddler back in hand to keep the good times rolling. I also have that epic 6/6 which gives you a random Demon after each turn.
However with 2400 dust in hand, I wonder if I should just bite the bullet and craft Leeroy so I can play the Leeroy/PO + Faceless combo. Is that the best iteration of Renolock right now?
I'll hang up and listen.
Leeroy will always be relevant. He's even been nerfed and he's still relevant.
When I started playing around Blackrock Mountain I never saw Leeroy. He only started popping back up around Old Gods, at least in my experience.
That was before they nerfed arcane golem, I don't think they're ever going to print another card as good as arcane golem.
Did you mean molten giant?
And if Patches has proved anything its that Blizzard is not shy about printing powerful potentially game warping cards.
Patches is dumb but it's not OTK dumb, which seems to be pretty much the only thing they care about. So we're not getting another burst card better than Leeroy.
I jsut beat a jade druid because i accidentally put moroes in my mage deck instead of the other one from kara that summons a creature from the deck as a 1/1... turns out a free 1/1 every turn is too much value

Also what are the odds they really knew how strong patches was when they made him, they just thought it be funny to see a minion shoot out of your deck

Given what happened with Grim Patron and Mysterious Challenger I rate the chances of this at EIGHT THOUSAND PERCENT.

They knew, he's mostly contained. They wanted to push pirate decks a bit, and while he is a broken card - he's not super unhealthy for the game the way Tunnel Trogg or Spirit Claws are.

wasn't patches also originally a dragon? Which would have made it way stronger since you can casually include Azure Drake in most decks a lot easier than you can pirates.
so... using most of my resources to present lethal next turn has turned into 3 consecutive reno's for me today. One match i could get through because he was a mage that used all his burn early. The other two were just too ridiculous to handle. i lost the last one probably by not just c'thuning him the turn before reno and hoping enough hit him for the attack to be over the top

Yeah, learning to play around reno is a hard part of getting used to the game, especially since Renolock seems to be the deck to beat right now according to some pros (Reynad stormed to rank 1 legend with it and asserts it has no bad matchups).
i hit 20 on mage and threw all my deathrattle cards onto a hunter and won my first brawl... then it gave me a tutorial for standard. Seemed a little odd that it triggers off winning your first brawl

Well, it has bad matchups they just aren't popular at the moment. If aviana druid combo takes off, that is a deck that wins every game that goes to turn 10 against reno lock.
Sjow is playing Aviana right now and summoned a 2/2 off mire keeper instead of going for mana by accidentally misclicking.
Grr, I don't like how minions that spawn from other minions get buffed from Sword of Justice before the original. I had 2 charges left on my sword when I dropped Dopplegangster, which spawns two copies. I think the original should get the +1/+1 buff first, making the copies equally strong, and then further buffs apply for the copies.
OMFG WHAT A FUCKING COMBO
YES ALL THESE CARDS WERE PLAYED AT THE SAME TIME. ON LADDER. YES. TWO. BRANNED. CTHUNS. I HAD A FULL BOARD AND 30 HEALTH...
wait, what? how? i thought aviana cost 9.
innervates?
aye, there's two innervates in the history bar.

Hm. I feel like dragon paladin is aaaaalmost a thing. Like, it's sort of close to being good.
Since you're typically holding a lot of cards, x2 Grimestreet Outfitter and x1 Smuggler's Run can create a ton of value with minions that already have strong stats to begin with. I think the hand buffing thing is really good with dragons but the key is finding the right mix. Can't be too much but a little bit goes a long way.
I'm gonna keep toying with it and see what I can do.
Say I have around 1700-2400 dust and I want to craft a legend from the new set (and epics). What would you choose?
Legendaries from the set are mostly tied to their respective decks. What deck do you feel like playing, or what style of decks do you prefer?
I like Rogue even though I might not be great at it. I keep seeing that Druid is ridiculous with Jade Golems, so that makes me interested. Shaman and Mage are interesting too.
Patches was originally going to be in GvG, they know how good the card is. Now why they also printed a 1 mana 3/2 pirate is beyond me.
Someone needs to have a giant inflatable hammer materialize out of thin air whenever a designer begins a thought with, "How about a 1 mana 3/2..." (or scaling attack).

TGT, not GVG.
I don't even mind Patches, I do feel the 1 mana 3/2 needs to change though.
Some people will compare it to Cogmaster who is also a 1 mana 1/2 with conditional +2 attack, the problem is that Cogmaster's conditional is based on other minions, for which we have plenty of removal options (it's basically the entire point of the game). There are very few weapon removal options and therefore the +2 attack bonus on Small-Time Buccaneer is going to be active too much of the time to be balanced in my opinion. It also removes the ability to just execute a well ordered minion trading to reduce it's attack to 1 as could be the case with Cogmaster.

Man. Reno lock isjust so good. They have answers for everything. Seems like the deck to beat.

On the one hand, this is awesome, because it means fewer warriors. On the other hand, getting oozed while holding a Doomhammer is THE WORST THING.
But a guy did Harrison Jones my fresh Doomhammer when he was at 9 cards, so that was pretty great

Druid is a hard class guys.
The art of Patches was originally in GvG. What the card did varied a lot between now and then.

edit: I really want Panda girl lady, but I am always hesitant crafting legends.

man, that is such a broken card. they need to just dump it.
Wth Kun, you don't even need the innervates!

The attack into a Hunter Secret at 3 HP when you have THREE RAGS ON THE BOARD just made me so very sad.
