Update: For a series of reasons, Apoc and I and our +2 won't be able to make it to the group dinner. I'll let The Local Taphouse know, and I'm happy to still be the contact for the booking.

We'll still be seeing you folks for other social things at PAX time, though!

I have arrived in the Sunshine Coast. There is no Sunshine to speak of. In fact, it only stopped raining for about half an hour. I feel like I should register some sort of protest somewhere, but when I left I drove to the airport in a hailstorm that left about a half inch of ice slush on the road, so I'm not sure I have much grounds for complaint.

Hey gang. Just a heads up, given the change in our circumstances.

We are still planning on going to PAX but apart from the group dinner will not be committing to too many group activities at this stage. We will mostly be seeing how we go and updating the group via WhatsApp re our whereabouts.

Right now I’m not sure how much time we will spend at the actual con because that depends on how we feel... Blake and I are wanting to spend quality time together while away. I return to work the following week as well so I’ll be prioritizing us and how we are feeling at the time.

It may be that we arrive at PAX and we are able to handle the usual level of socialization, but I just didn’t want to promise anything at this stage.

I would also like to kindly request that we revisit the group dinner venue if possible. If the noise level isn’t as significant an issue anymore, can we maybe swap back to the Stomping Ground? Maybe with a table off to the side instead of in the main bar area?

The Local Taphouse is a bit far and I for one know that I will not be keen to go so far with our very limited days in Melbourne. I also know the Stomping Ground and would like to stick to familiar places where possible.

If this isn’t doable then that’s fine. Sorry to be difficult, I’m honestly making sure I look after Blake and myself during this trip, and with the attendee list changing I’m comfortable asking for this request to be considered.

I know I said I'd be happy to be main contact for the booking, but I need to take a few things of my plate/mind rn - any of you feel like being main contact and contacting them about the location change?

Okay I’ve booked the Stomping Ground for 26/10 at 18:30. It is under my name. Thank goodness for Email, making things nice and easy and impersonal.

I did not bother contacting the Taphouse because I didn’t want to call. Phones are hard at present. I would also not like to worry about much more than we’ve got on at present, so if someone else could call and cancel the Taphouse thing that’d be great.

Having spoken to my therapist, and to avoid any of my BPD symptoms flaring up after a lot of recent work in preparation for PAX, I’ll be around to say hello to people on the Sat, and maybe drop by for that photo, but I won’t be as present this year. Enjoy the hangs that happen, and if we cross paths I’ll definitely say hi and hug.

On the one hand I think this 'increase' is kinda overhyped

OTOH what the fuck is happening with the 30-34 y/o bracket

Past 12 years have been notable, in my view, in the lack of being able to accomplish much, despite turning to both major parties.
This would be roughly the entire voting period for 30-34 year olds.

Rudd slammed through a hell of a lot before he got shit-canned. Gillard actually got quite a lot done too, though it was more wonkish and less obviously progressive. Blame the murdoch press maybe for playing up the dysfunction and playing down the accomplishments, but 2007-2012 was actually a period of fairly dynamic government.

    Yep, probably.
I was and am continuing to be more impressed by Gillard since she left office than I was at the time, and that probably has a lot to do with Murdoch's news filters.

If you consume Murdoch-owned (a lot of Fairfax stuff too, let's be honest) media, then you'd have no idea the scope and depth of what Labor has managed to achieve at any time in the last 30+ years. Hell, they're still desperately slagging off Gough Whitlam every chance they get, and he was one of the greatest economic leaders we've ever had.

PAX is getting pretty close, my vacation starts tomorrow and I'll hit your fair country in about a week. I look forward to meeting some of you, seeing if cherry ripes are worth the hype, and having LS's face photoshopped over mine.

I know chris is generally a big fan of LS swaps but this seems a bit extreme.

found a website that does pollen forecasts

thought i'd share it with you all, since last year's storm was real bad for me.

Apparently the worst it's gonna get is a "moderate" for thursday, which is good.

We have our eye on a place near Vic Street markets for breakfast that morning.

Yep! I am basically invulnerable to hayfever, but Amy and I walked up Lygon and damn near died. The pollen was so thick it was like a dust storm.

I don't think it counts if the two readings are synonymous.
