Also is it normal that when I tried to play this last, it stuttered itself to death? Was gonna gawk at planets, but couldn't even open the map. This was on a 6 core i7 with a 1070, mind.

Yeah, that was my experience with lesser specs (i5, 1060). I think it's more tied to the networking aspect than graphical horsepower. I did the Cheat Engine thing to load a single person instance and the framerate was much better, but I spawned across the system from where my ship was so I only got to run around the mining base. A minimum of 16GB of RAM is currently the requirement.
Latest video, also; in the court case it seems that CIG filed a motion for a protective order because they felt Cry was not being reasonable in their discovery demands and Cry opposed the motion for the protective order. pdfs are around on redit and other places, I don't really think I need to link them here.

Still unplayable on 8gb then? Right, back into hibernation I go...
Yeah, 16GB is going to become the norm for gaming over the next few years. Star Citizen is really pushing the envelope, so will definitely fall under that category. Unless they pull some insane optimisation out of the bag.
I've upgraded my computer twice while they've been making the game, and one of those upgrades replaced everything but the hard drive (i did later get a SD for some games that really need it).
I expect to do atleast one more major upgrade (hopefully not because my graphics card dies) before the game is out.

I think I had 16GB of RAM on my gaming PC from like... 3 years ago. It wasn't even that expensive, and I built that system, I dunno, 7years ago?
Dunno why 16GB of RAM would be any kind of big deal in terms of expectations. Yeah, RAM prices are up right now, but high-end RAM is a lot less important than CPU and GPU power, and still a lot less of a cost than either of those (especially GPUs, which are massively overinflated in cost right now).

If you want to have a crash free existence, having more than 16 GIGS of RAM is the way to go. Personally I'm running 32.
If you want to load things quickly, install on an SSD.
If you want blazing fast framerates and pretty graphics, get a nice GPU and a CPU that can let it go to its full potential.
But no matter how you slice it, all of these components work together to give you a great gaming experience.

I have 12 gigs of ram. 2 4 gig sticks and 2 2 gig sticks. I look forward to upgrading, once I can shake loose the money for it. Times are tight. And what is more important than that is getting Red a processor better than the i3 she is using.

HMM, my RSI launcher just pinged me about an update to version 3.1.0-LIVE.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

I feel sorry for anyone that would take this seriously.

Fired this up to take a look at my Reclaimer, all the nonpilot consoles I encountered and tried using were placeholder'd and nonfunctional, unless there's some sort of idiot check to make them do things. I figured it was a big ship, but the scale of it doesn't really hit you until you hop out and float in front of the thing.
You can see the pilot/claw seats there in the cockpit.
Also the thing looks to have plenty for people to do, poking through its equipment before firing up arena commander gives the thing a fair few turrets, plus in my incomplete blind wanderings I found control points for tractor beams, scanners, and drones. Wouldn't surprise me if there was more I didn't come across. Did find the mess hall and captain/crew quarters at least.
Anyway what I'm saying is that if people wanna join my crew you'd best be willing to work. Also dibs on THE CLAW.

Ah good, I was worried my Alien mess hall scene reenactor's guild would have to find new accommodations.

When it comes to Derek Smart, at least you can say he’s good at inspiring nearsighted colon gazing. Guess the degree he bought online wasn’t for nothing.
Derek Smart didn't make that website. The guy who did is a friend of a friend actually, he made it for html practice mostly but he's been really invested in the project for a long time and he's a good dude. If you have issues with it other than weird sideways scoffed I'd be interested to hear

The nice thing about that site the granularity of salt it offers. Nobody has to say something as generic as "CIG is all liars because they didn't put in detail X!", they can instead say "CIG is 0.03% liars by not including detail X!"
i mean, the site isn't really editorializing. it states a feature that has been slated for inclusion by the developers (with citation), and has the status of that feature. the closest you could get to accusing the site of salt is the rather subjective nature of the "comprised" category but you can't argue that "ingame pets" "procedural alien wildlife" "visual limb damage" or a variety of other features are not in the game yet, regardless of how positive or negative your feelings on the project are
Probably the main thing I would suggest would be to maybe rename "Not Implemented" to "Not Yet Implemented". Maybe it's just me, but the latter indicates that the feature is still being planned but not in the alpha yet...the former sounds like the feature is dropped.
| Origin/R*SC: Ein7919 | Battle.net: Erlkonig#1448 | XBL: Lexicanum | Steam: Der Erlkönig (the umlaut is important) |
they could use more differentiation there yeah, along with one for canned or heavily altered features like the whole stealing ships/fake id's/whathaveyou
anyways, 3.1 just came out right? has anyone tried the mining out yet, i was always pretty curious on that one because mining in space games has always been hit or miss for me.

I'm not ripping on the site in the slightest, it's a pretty ambitious tracker if it's even 30% right.
I was just making something that vaguely resembles a joke with the fact that the game is pushing the envelope of hardware and game development, and has a corresponding tracking site on a scale that I've never seen for any other game.
The site itself seems pretty neutral to me. Yeah, it's misleading that all the items are sort of lumped together for completeness, but considering the detail for the site, I wouldn't put it on the people running it to explain things like the netcode getting completed is a lot more of a big deal than a given ship being done. It could be 100% accurate (which would be impossible), and anybody with a grudge would still be able to twist the numbers to make it look like SC is a failure.

So there has been a several hour live stream going on today about procedural food.

I’m going to have my character sit on the toilet whenever I go AFK. Actually, it would be cool if CIG extended the AFK timer when your character is in the bathroom.
I still think the best use for in game bathrooms to bring up the help documentation and instructional materials.
Captain: We need to dock with that derelict ship.
Engineer: uh, I gotta hit the head first.

They're being added in with 3.1, yeah. Apparently, they'll be the largest live-ship in the game to date.
