Golden Ticket here too. And I would much rather have this development model than say... Cyberpunk 2077. How much do we know or have we seen about that game eh?

revealing PU elements is no big deal because we're all going to play it soon enough. Revealing SQ42 elements early however ruins the story. They've given us snippets though.
We've talked about this time and time again. With traditional development, you don't even know the game is being made until it's probably got less than a year to go. Because of the crowdfunding, we've been aware of it EVERY. STEP. OF. THE. WAY.

Looking at that link, it does seem like SQ42 videos kind of dried up. There's just two videos from 1Q 2016, the ones with Gillian Anderson and Andy Serkis, and everything else is 2015 or earlier. Do they talk about it still being worked on in the backers stuff?

It could also mean that they're done with the story elements that require a cast and can't talk about the rest because it would be story spoilers (also, outside of that, there's just gameplay to talk about which is what we're already seeing from their Star Citizen/Star Marine stuff).

Heh...that's why I highlighted the bit where HT said "Just to show it's even being worked on". I figured that seeing the actors in mo-cap suits and being recorded satisfies that request :P

And if you watch the weekly videos they are constantly talking about how the scheduled this or that for mocap or some department to work on assets for squadron 42, but they are clear that they can't tell us what it is because spoilers.

Is S42 open world or very much linear mission based?
I'd assume branching missions, like Wing Commander. That might be what you meant, though when I read 'linear' I thought more of X-Wing or Freespace where the missions are basically pass/fail, and you replay until you pass.
Shut up, Mr. Burton! You were not brought upon this world to get it!

oh please, that was a silly reply. The link practically shows nothing relevant to my question.
Show a campaign mission, or 5 minutes from it, that is done, or near done, or even a target of what the single player gameplay will look like when done, in the last 12 months. We've never gotten anything like that before, and washing it away as "well they don't want to show spoilers" is not a good enough answer. At this point all I know of recent information (and this is recent as in over a year ago!) is that they hired some big actors for some CG cutscenes.

And the link I provided showed that they did, in fact, work on it. Since the systems that are needed for SQ42 are the same systems needed for Star Citizen, if/when they're done recording mocap and VO work, there's nothing more to show that it's currently being worked on other than what's being worked on for Star Citizen. To ask for more SQ42 specific stuff that's completely separate from Star Citizen will be delving into spoiler territory...which I don't think anybody here wants.

So since they shot mocap, depending on their pipeline. Transferring Mocap to Animation tools takes probably a week depending on how efficient their pipeline is, two weeks at max. Then they'll do cutscene cameras, some animation adjustments, get it approved by big man Roberts, then it'll go back to animation tools to export the cutscene into the game.
Then once it's in the game, it'll be up to the scripters to hook it up to mission flow, most likely address a bajillion bugs, and then finally polish it enough that it's good to go.
I'm willing to bet there's tons of cutscenes sitting in the game right now, but the bug the list to make sure the missions play back properly will be huge. This may include: janky character animations, missing props, invisible enemies, insta-fail mission conditions, crashes, etc.
Pretty sure nothing is going to look pretty or playable until mo-cap is done shooting and crunch time goes live. Or as Miyamoto would say, "Mario time."

They can show lots of stuff for SC without, at this point, people worrying too much about things looking rough. It's mostly independent modules being developed in parallel at this point, and none of it is anywhere near finalized.
But I'd bet real money that people would flip their shit if they showed S42 footage in development stages, nevermind that development looks ugly for quite a while. Even aside from spoilers, I would not show campaign development footage for the most part, it would not be worth the doomsaying because it doesn't look release-perfect in every video.

Yeah, campaign footage can get pretty ugly. Missing heads, floating eye balls and mouths, ships flying backwards, flickering textures, placeholder VO, missing lights, the list of why they shouldn't show any campaign footage is enormous.
Not to mention:
1.) Spoilers
2.) People will rage seeing the bugs early in development and claims of the game never getting finished will get even more overblown.
3.) Demo'd mission may possibly get cut from the game.
There's also the whole hype factor. "Okay we've shown you a slice of the campaign?" "When is it coming out?" "Soon" *Riot.*
Or "Okay and that's a slice of our campaign." "When is it coming out?" "Friday June 23rd." *Cheers*

Pretty sure that there's SQ42 functionality that they could demo that wouldn't spoil anything. Squad AI and wing commands, launching from and recovering to a ship, hell even a fully working frigate or destroyer would demonstrate that the whole walking around on a big ass ship thing is coming along. Unless we've seen some of that since the last time I dared launch the beta?

Literally all of that is going to fall under the videos for Star Citizen and not SQ42, though. So people who are only looking for SQ42 materials are still going to be disappointed because they're going to find nothing but Star Citizen production videos. And, considering that all the systems for Star Citizen are going to be used for SQ42, it would help if people bore in mind that the lack of SQ42-specific production videos doesn't mean that RSI isn't working on SQ42 elements...since work on Star Citizen is also work that applies to SQ42.

Aye. I would be very surprised if SQ42 even had loading screens - if I had that kind of seamless star system tech, and event-driven missions and shit, I'd use that for my single player campaign too.
So many of the things that have come up in this thread as information that people wish for has been explained, shown, or demo'ed in videos from RSI, or any of the uncountable commentary videos from people like boredgamer or STLyoungblood. At this point if you lament (or complain) that RSI isn't being forthcoming about exactly what the plan is, the current development roadmap is, or what progress that they have in a state fit enough to show then you are effectively screwing shut your eyes, plugging your ears with your fingers, and shouting LALALALA at anyone who tries to educate you otherwise.
RSI has given and continues to provide more information about the product than any developer has ever provided in the history of video games.

I believe they said they were going to show off a piece of one of the SQ42 missions at the last CitizenCon but scrapped it at the last minute because they supposedly didn't think it was polished enough. Kinda figured since it's been a few months they've probably got it ready so dunno if they're just waiting for another convention or something.
You know what...when I'm wrong I can admit I'm wrong. RSI just released an AtV where they talk about some of the tech they're working on for SQ42 (new facial mocap for rendering models during dialog sequences.
(around the 11:11 mark, and it's only about 15 seconds long...they also briefly talk about the Javelin and how it's "integral" to SQ42 around the 22:45 mark)
Personally, i continue to be exited about Star Citizen and Squadron 42.
Even though i hate the UI.
I get the idea of immersion and minimalist UI's, but i prefer easy to use robust user interfaces myself, and trying to constantly remember what button did what (and trying to hit just the right angle to press a button or buy a shirt). is way more immersion breaking for me than more in your face UI.
I'm working on a cute little video game! Here's a link for you.

Man, they've been saying the 300i is scheduled for an update pass for over 2 years now, and it's not even on the 2017 schedule. I'm gonna have to CCU it into something flyable, I guess.
Basically, if it isn't in Squadron 42 it isn't a priority. I know that's going to annoy or upset some people but it's the right call if they want to ever launch the single player. I suspect the 300i won't get any love until after SQ42 launches.

I'm hoping S42 trends closer to Privateer than Wing Commander proper; but, if the PU isn't Eve-like in its accessibility, I'll be happy to ignore the MP and just toil away as if it were a Privateer in which the "AI" occasionally accuses me of hacking or calls me a shitcock.

Wait...hang on there...
You actually want EVE-like "accessibility"? And, I know it's been a whiles since I last played EVE...but I was under the impression (from the last day that I had chat enabled) that being EVE-like would entail the MP population accusing you of hacking and calling you a shitcock.

I mean the ability (or lack thereof) to just play solo at a casual pace. Go trade some goods, mine, smuggle, and fight in a way that is actually productive. My impression of Eve is that this is not possible without some offline grind and politics.
My impression of the internet is that chat wll always be awful; so I'm not going hold RSI to fixing that.

Pick one (or however many you want to watch).

Could be. The videos in the link just don't seem particularly informative unless Hardtarget was wondering if SQ42 had ever been worked on.
Heh...that's why I highlighted the bit where HT said "Just to show it's even being worked on". I figured that seeing the actors in mo-cap suits and being recorded satisfies that request :P

I'd assume branching missions, like Wing Commander. That might be what you meant, though when I read 'linear' I thought more of X-Wing or Freespace where the missions are basically pass/fail, and you replay until you pass.
Branching missions, from my understanding.

oh please, that was a silly reply.
Hey, you asked to be shown that they worked on it. I provided a link showing that they worked on it. It doesn't get more relevant than that, silly or not.
He asked if it's being worked on.

My impression of the internet is that chat wll always be awful; so I'm not going hold RSI to fixing that.
