Watched the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. Pretty much from the get go you could tell the movie was made by people with a real love of the source materials. Lots of fun easter eggs and shout outs to the games and anime. Kinda funny to say, but I really loved the end credits. They listed the major actors and had the character they played done up in the Pokemon art style with what is now my favorite rendition of the Pokemon theme playing. Seriously if you guys come across that song before I do please link it!
It did have the somewhat unfortunate side-effect of making me crave a Breath of the Wild Pokemon all the more though.
Someday, maybe, but probably not.
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
There's just so much awesome stuff you can do within the Pokemon universe, and I love how the new movie (and also the TV show) really calls that out.
Like... Pokemon is so much more than just battling. Yes, at it's core Pokemon battling is like a pillar foundational tenet of the franchise and it is certainly important. But there's just so much more there.
I love watching the newer anime series and seeing the other side characters strive for and complete goals and dreams outside of just battling. Serena from the X/Y series is pretty much my all time favorite side character / companion character and I loved her own personal character arc because it was so very different from what Ash was doing.
And anyway, I was glad to see a movie that wasn't just about battles.
By the way, is the Detective Pikachu video game worth playing? I never picked it up.

I said this before I saw Detective Pikachu and having seen it I am even more on board with the idea, but I would love to see a Rocky styled Pokemon trainer movie.
They could also do an Indiana Jones styled Pokemon movie that culminates in the appearance of a Legendary.
Maybe a Pokemon Ranger story about Pokemon poachers or something.
The setting isn't limiting, you can tell just about any story you want in it. Hell, the anime/movies/games pretty much have.
I know WB is hungry for a cinematic universe and I think they could pull it off with this Pokemon setting. The movies wouldn't have to be as intertwined as the MCU or anything, just simply take place in the same world Detective Pikachu established. Which oddly enough kinda fits with the games/anime IMHO.
Point is, I WANT MORE!

I'm already eagerly anticipating the sequel to Detective Pikachu.
I want...
Justice Smith to get his own Pokemon. For some reason he seems like a grass type would be really fitting for him. I'm envisioning him with either a Treeko or a Rowlett specifically.

It's pretty cute and charming, but the puzzles/mysteries are all pretty mindless, "go around and talk to everybody" fest. It's clearly designed with kids in mind. But the dialogue is fun and there are tons of cute animations that Pikachu and other Pokemon do. I can't give it a blanket recommendation but if you like the idea then its worth a go.
Pokemon Ranger would be the perfect side-property to make into a Hollywood movie next, there's a bunch of different movie-length stories you could tell with that framework.
I'm torn on whether or not I want to watch the direct. I wanna know more about the gameplay and gimmick and whatnot, but I don't want to see any more new Pokemon. The past few generations I've gone in blind and constrained myself to only using new Pokemon, which has really heightened my enjoyment of the past few games. I want to keep that going.

While that's a fun idea, that would have also made it basically impossible to have gotten Mareanie in Gen VII and that's a tough sell.

I'm expecting we'll get a concrete release date along with some version exclusives and some new mechanic deets (like Sun/Moon had 4-way battles)

Wasn't that hard, actually. I encountered Mareanie fighting a trainer and then just followed my 'dex to grab one.
I keep hoping for another gen like B&W where it was nothing but new Pokemon until the post game, so you are forced to use new stuff even if you haven't constrained yourself in the way I do.
I ended up using a lot of Alolan forms in my first playthrough of Sun/Moon. Do those count as new?
Alolan Muk is one of my new favs. So is Alolan Ninetails.
Heck, I might have had a main party of entirely new ones, and that wasn't because of any sort of constraint I placed on myself, but moreso just because I loved a lot of the new Pokemon from this gen.
Let's see. My main party was Rowlett, Chargabug, Alolan Vulpix, Alolan Grimer, Pikipek, and Mudsdale in the early game - replaced with Jangmo-o once I got far enough in the game to get one.

I accidentally did this for X&Y - I was just busy and didn't pay attention to the game pre-release. Ended up being one of my favourite Pokemon experiences. Seeing Greninja for the first time when mine evolved was awesome.
But I also realise that I got a bit lucky with my starter pick, as I don't overly like Chestnaught and Delphox. And I ignored Fletchling originally, not realising it was going to gain Fire typing.
Also, I missed Honedge. (Which I wouldn't have, if they hadn't taken out the goddamn Habitat List from B/W2.)

Oh god.. I am listening to the Gamexplain discussion on this and they're suggesting Pokemon Masters is probably a gacha game. NO PLEASE DEAR GOD STOPPPPPPPPPP...
They better be wrong. Because if not, God dammit. (and seriously, if not fuck that game. I refuse)

I mean, of course it'll be. It's DeNA, so it's highly likely it'll be a game in the vein of Granblue Fantasy and Fire Emblem Heroes, with a big focus on collecting characters via gacha. I'm really excited for it - the art looks super clean and it seems like every character is voiced, which is kinda crazy.

Pikachu Libre movie please!
I didn't come up with it, but: a BotW-style Pokemon Snap would be the ultimate Switch game.
Shit, have that be an optional thing to do in the BotWP game!

It's a new game at least. They was not explicit whether the original will also be there or not
No I think you're reading that right. One way from Go/Bank/Let's Go and two way to Sword and Shield.

A real Pokémon mmo still makes all the gameplay sense. The DP movie shows off a lot of the potential.
