Ace Attorney was actually my favourite game this year
Well, how about that
It's worth noting that if I had more time/money this list would likely be radically different, I imagine TitanFall and Uncharted would have figured heavily and FFXV would probably have ranked
Titanfall 2 is great though, I'm excited to try the multiplayer after that great SP campaign. I need to get a PS+ sub again but someone was asking for a cheap gift for christmas so I told em to get me a month mostly so I can play Titanfall.
Titanfall 2's SP is super fun. I think they could've done better with some of the narrative aspects, especially its rogue's gallery. (Like what the hell is Ash's deal with that face? Is she some sort of robot? Oops, who cares, smack her up go to the next boss in line, ho-hum.) But that's probably expecting too much from the game and bro-bot makes up for all of that anyway.
After finishing the campaign, I played exactly one round of domination online, made exactly zero kills, and then uninstalled the game, contrasting to TF1, which I've put dozens of hours in online. Didn't feel it all for some reason.
I liked Eternal Crusade. It's a much better war-themed hats pants simulator than TF2. For the single reason that ALL BULLETS KILL YOU, EVEN THE FRIENDLY ONES.
I mean, it only got really fun in the last week or so, or maybe my brain's improved enough that I can handle all that fun, but I would easily call EC my GOTY, if only because it's the only game I played that came out this year.
It's always weird cause this was a really good year for games but I didn't actually play a shit ton so...
Games I played/finished and can say are definitely fantastic: The Witness, Inside, Civ 6, Witcher 3 Blood and Wine, Dark Souls 3, Doom (even though I've barely played it), Furi
I feel like I quit paying attention to Dark Souls news and stuff a couple months ago and now all of a sudden everyone hates 3.
I think with most games once people stop playing it the only people still talking about it are the ones who are really passionate about it. And on the internet that mostly means people who hate it. The people who thought it was fine to pretty good aren't going to have much to say that they haven't already said.
uncharted 4 is the best uncharted game and I quite enjoyed playing through it at the time but I can't seem to muster up much feeling for it now in december
uncharted 4 is the best uncharted game and I quite enjoyed playing through it at the time but I can't seem to muster up much feeling for it now in december
This is the exact same feeling I had for most of the year
It took me diving in on Chip Cheezum's LP of it recently to go "oh yeah Uncharted 4 was incredibly good"
I was out of work for 7 months this year, so I found myself relying heavily on mobile games and replaying older titles to help keep my mental state steady. As such, not a lot of "new" games on my list. I'll probably do a deeper dive later on the mobile games themselves, but Granblue Fantasy is my overall game of the year, despite not being a 2016 release.
Note: Amplitude was technically a 2016 release, but I played it first in 2015 so I'm excluding it.
7. Final Fantasy Explorers
6. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
5. The Division
4. Final Fantasy XV
3. Overwatch
2. Stardew Valley
1. NHL 17
DS3 probably rates a bit higher for me because I bought it on release, after being years late on 1&2.
Those games are more fun when the netcode works properly, there's tons of players.
It's a very good game that lacks the great sense of exploration I had in 1 or the struggles I had in 2. Just a bit friendlier enemy and bonfire placement, fewer tougher bosses and easier coop. I finished in 36h or so which is way faster than my first clears of 1 or 2.
I placed it like #8 in my GB GOTY predictions a few months back because a few of the GB folk did seem to enjoy it at the time, and even if it is not the best Souls game ever after like 6 years so many other games have tried, and none have been able to come close to the experience.
it really falls apart in the last third, i've literally never seen a localisation feel rushed but there you have it

i played uh. overwatch and fire emblems this year and that was it for new games. Beat dark souls one, and i guess i'll probably play a few hours of pokemon before the year rolls over? Assuming i get some time to myself, at least
so overall, pretty happy with it! and also in keeping with my general trend of playing less than five games a year, haaaaaa
I am very sure it didn't come out this year though.

It was gonna end up being Uncharted 4 or Firewatch more or less by default
And then when I went to actually make the list it was "oh, duh
It's Hitman
It's always been Hitman"
Beyond that, I don't really know. It was a crap year for video games.

DOOM was great from what I played of it; I should probably go back and finish that.
Civ 6 was good too
Let It Die is hilarious

I mean it's still a solid ass action rpg though
But is it a solid ass-action RPG? How are DS3's butts?
My top 5 in no particular order: DS3, Overwatch, Uncharted 4, The Witness, FFXV

NHL 17 is really good, you guys
if the localisation had remained this consistent throughout I would 10000% agree with you but it was outright Trash about 40% of the time
2. Titanfall 2
3. Doom
4. The Witness
5. Dishonored 2
6. King's Quest
7. The Division
8. Xcom 2
9. Civ VI
10. Job Simulator
bloodborne was such a perfectly encapsulated thing, it felt like it touched on everything that needed to be touched in that universe
I much rather hope that the next game they develop is actually armored souls
