Is there any way to completely wipe the album art from my iTunes library? Now that I have a new Nano I finally realized how low res most of my album art is and I wanna go through and get higher res album art for my music.
Command-A to select all of your music > Get Info > check the 'album art' box, it should be blank, that would delete album art for every song.
be careful not to select any other fields when you do this, or your collection will go blanky blankerson
So, I will switch from my 4 year old toshiba to a MacBook in october (the student promotion with the Ipod runs until the end of october around here) - let's say I want to run office 2007 within Mac OS (so no bootcamp, just takes to long to switch). Which virtualization software would be good for such a task. Will I still be able to use bootcamp? If yes, can I access my files then from the virtualization software and from bootcamp?

Hey, does anyone have experience playing Baldur's Gate 2 in Bootcamp on a Macbook? Or any Mac that didn't have a two-button mouse? I can't get the game to recognize ctrl click or windows click or any click as a right click, and I'm wondering if there is a trick to it.

IIRC, you right click in Boot Camp by holding two fingers on the trackpad while clicking the mouse button. Is that not working in the game?

What's a good product to watch TV on my Macbook with?
I think I saw a product where you could hook up a cable connection, and receiver over the air broadcasts (in HD). Does anyone know what it's called and if it's any good? I don't want to spend more than $100.
This is a list of pretty much every TV tuner product available for the Mac. OWC is fine to order from, but I would shop around a bit to make sure you're getting the best price. The eyeTV hybrid will do S-video/composite, analog cable and OTA HDTV, so it's probably your best bang for the buck, and the refurbished one even comes in under $100.
Just keep in mind the lower-end El Gato products are going to be very CPU heavy when you record, so if you intend on doing a lot of recording in the background, the 250 plus might be a bet better.
I'm curious about purchasing the eyeTV thing so I can plug my PS3 into my 15" macbook pro. Right now my TV is a 19 inch SDTV. That thing will display much better than an SDTV right? Anyone have any experience with that?
The eyeTV can't accept HD input over component - it can only tune in over-the-air HDTV. A high-def HDMI/component capture card will run you about $350, and will only work in a tower.
You could use it with the standard-def output of the PS3, but then it really wouldn't look any better then your TV...
Basically, there's no good way to do what you want for now.
Oh well, that's why I asked. I kind of thought that would be the answer. I guess I'll have to continue saving up for an HDTV while using my shitty SD one.
I'm using Neo Office, and am loving it. It's built off of Open Office, meaning it's free and works with all filetypes, plus, it was built for OSX, meaning no shitty X11.
I bought pages but let's be clear, Pages is more of a layout type program (think Adobe Indesign) than a word processor (Though the latest version has a WP-only mode...not sure how well it works).
Frankly, I stick to Microsoft Word. I find the Mac version of Word superior to the PC version, actually...

My iPod photos hard drive is freaking out, and its warranty ended this past summer, so I'm in the market for a new iPod. I've had my eye on the iPod touch, but the fact that it's $400 and only 16 gigs makes me a bit wary, as my current library is 12 gigs. On the other hand, the classic is way too fucking big at 80 gigs. My question to you folks is this: what is the likelihood of Apple releasing a bigger iPod touch before the end of this year?
By the end of this year? Unlikely. Earliest would be Macworld in January..., and I actually doubt that...
I just got my Touch today, actually, and I have over 15 gigs of music, so it won't all fit. But I've found it's forced me to sit and look at my music and see what I actually listen to and only sync that...which cut out nearly 2gigs of music...

Agreed. I'm still utterly baffled as to why Apple think we all need a DTP program again; there is a reason they died out in the late 90s (ie. they suck). I would have liked to have seen them have a proper run at the word processor, take what Word does and make it better. But they haven't.
Numbers, on the other hand, is an excellent re-imagining of the spreadsheet.
Hmmm.... that's a good point. What video formats does it support for video playback?
Also, this isn't really mac related, but do you guys think I would be better off buying an iPod touch through the Apple Store (and trading in my current iPod to get it at $420, or getting it through Best Buy and spending $460, but getting a three year warranty from Best Buy instead of Apples maximum two?
Hm, Pages '08 is still not sufficient for use as a word processor? Bummer.
I'm using OpenOffice, which is awkward because the most-supported version seems to be the one that runs in X11. And it can't display Greek letters in Word documents -- lame!

I just find it a pain in the ass that it doesn't do little things that Word does; superscripting dates when you write 12th or 23rd, or bullet pointing lists. YMMV. The Inspector interface is also a pain, and I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to edit a template to my liking and failing dismally.
Keynote remains much better than Powerpoint, and Numbers is a very strong contender for replacing Excel, but Pages doesn't stand up to Word as a word processor.

I haven't tried the Pages Word Processing mode - really, TextEdit is plenty good enough for the stuff I need - but I've heard very good things about it. I think it's supposed to completely cut the DTP stuff out and just let you type.
Go get the iWork trial and try it out yourself, though. Better then listening to us blather on about it :-)
NeoOffice is more mac-like - doesn't require X11 and has a vaguely mac-like interface. It's worth downloading and trying if you're frustrated with OpenOffice's limitations.
There are lotsofother word processor-esque apps out there for the Mac, though, and most of them have trials, so I'd give them a shot.

Now I hadn't heard about the Word Processing mode... I just tried it.
Oh man. It's so much better.
For all-purpose work, it seems fine. I would have to use it for an extended period of time to know if it stacks up to Word for bigger documents, but I seem to spend most of my time using LaTeX for that stuff now.
I think Office is still the better purchase (especially at student prices), but if iWork came on my Mac, I wouldn't be rushing out to get Office.
We'll have to see what the new Office suite looks like.

And I think all the MBP have the OLED now.

Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
Select your drive, and it's self explanatory from there.
Actually, I pretty sure none of them do.
Seeing as how its just plain old LED screen.
And, yes, its a big difference
ilounge says their 160GB Classic played music for 58 hours at 50% volume
goddaaaaamn
just you watch, it'll dip down to just 30 hours right when you're out of warranty!
Teleport if you're just interested in Macs, or Synergy if you want to throw Windows / Linux into the mix too.
Doesn't work quite how I wanted but loads better than having to switch to the trackpad all the time.
Of course, if you're getting 07 Windows for free, I guess its a moot point.
Out of curiosity, what functionality are you after that it doesn't supply?

Oh. Sheesh; thanks. I was doing it wrong. ><

It was the just the Nano's that got 24 hours I think... Not the hard drive iPods
