What does FFVI 100% entail? Can't be all items. For one, there's some mutually exclusive gear, and the paladin shield would take way too long to get. All bosses and all characters, perhaps? That would definitely mean no Kutan glitch.

the run is glitchless regardless of what % gets run.

For games that don't have actual % counters it's down to the community to just decide what 100% is. For FF6 I'd guess all characters and sidequests, all bosses, all magicite?

my definition of 100% would include transforming the cursed shield into the paladin shield.

Well now I know what Bionic Commando and Serious Sam have in common.

That would put a pretty hard floor on speedrun time.

oh and there's now an incentive to upgrade the Final Fantasy VI run from glitchless any% to glitchless 100%. the run is already due to be 7 hours long, no idea how much that's gonna jump by if it switches to 100%. they're wanting $100,000 to upgrade it, already got around $7K. i fully expect the incentive to be met.
The run is scheduled to be done by 10pm - 11pm PST last I looked, which is kinda weird because most of these events deliberately run into Sunday hours (before sunrise though). They probably gave those couple hours' worth of buffer for this incentive.
currently its down to end around 7am UK time which seems about on par with other GDQs. imagine a 100% run as to had 2-3 hours onto that, easy.
Here's the first google result I got for ff6 glitchless 100%, which just so happens to be by puwexil (who is running the game at GDQ this year):
Speedrun.com doesn't have a leaderboard for glitchless 100%, but does for any%, and puwexil's PB is 2nd at 5 hours, 13 minutes, and 24 seconds. So it'll add 1.5-2 hours to the run

Puwexil's WR for 100% Glitchless is 6:17:38.

I will never understand Kingdom Hearts hype. I mean, I'm happy it's popular for events like this (bring in that donation money), but everything about it is just not for me.

i can understand the mash up of Square* and Disney being attractive to people that are fans of both, but i struggle with how those can overcome the seemingly baffling and incomprehensible story. all a matter of taste i suppose.
*have any Enix properties made it into the series? i know the first game was pre-merger but not sure about after that.

The kingdom hearts games are a lot of fun to play. On top of that, they bring Disney to video games in a way that is consumable for adults and children both; they're basically the only games in existence that do that (for Disney specifically). For adults like me who were grown up when the games first came out, they represent a game series that has been reliably great game-wise, and also integrates the childhood nostalgia of the Disney movies of our youth. For younger players, the game is their nostalgia. Not only that, they have beautiful art, and some of the best music in the industry.
I think they make for pretty good speedrunning too, now that they have skippable cutscenes and things like zero xp mode.
I'd actually like to see a 100% run of KH1. There's a lot of interesting stuff in the optional content added in the Final Mix and 1.5 FM versions, and I'd like to see how they tackle things like gathering the Ultima Weapon materials in a speedrun.
+1

Did anyone else spot that just now with Sumichu and Sent on the couch just now? When their names came up, Sumi had "Seeking Employment" underneath it.

edit: also, it's "glitchless" so some glitches are used, but others aren't

"What grades did Spencer get at school?" *runner, couch and announcer all burst out laughing in expectation of the punchline*
oh and these are the donations during the Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 run for context.

They've been doing singalongs for just about every KH1 and KH2 run over the last year. AGDQ, SGDQ and RPG Limit Break are the big ones.

Also I heard Aqua got norted.
I just kinda feel we're retreading the same ground.
I'll admit, it feels like the year's been pretty dense with Kingdom Hearts stuff.

There's a lot of really great KH games, and the ps3/4 re-releases have new speedrun friendly game modes.

>couch peoples stand up and carry the couch off one side
>they bring another one in from the side
This event is gonna have an awesome highlight reel.
