Do ads just interrupt the stream? I don't have prime and my ad-blocker is turned off, and I just get an ad when I load the stream and that's it.
It's an annoying 15 second delay before I can start watching, but I've never had ads interrupt it once it's got going.
The more annoying thing is the huge lack of variety of ads, so if I watch a stream a day (or more), I get a week of the same Cloak & Dagger trailer.
Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

It depends on how the streamer has it setup I think. Some people have it on first load, some have it at will (like GDQ), and some have it on ads showing up once in a while.
I always have to re-parse the game's title in my head at least once to remind myself that it's about a character named Jack who has a Mohawk and Headphones, and not about two separate characters named "Mohawk" and "Headphone Jack".

Wow I was not expecting the game list to be selected already. I would've expected next month. But okay.
8-bit Bloodstained is in there, that's good.
I like the Castlevania block (is Bloodstained a part of it?). AoS, Chronicles, 3, 2, and SotN.
Dead Cells I didn't think would be in given that it's a very fresh game release but maybe its early access status let them give the go-ahead?
Donkey Kong Country appears to be a race, all stages, fuck yeah. On that note, Tropical Freeze is in too.
I think I'm going insane because it appears there's a Final Fantasy 9 race? Am I like sleep deprived and fucking this read up?
Hollow Knight has a good category; true ending glitchless. That's going to be an amazing show of skill.
Jackal, an NES game I grew up with, is being co-op'd. Hooray! I think everyone will like it even though it'll be a few minutes.
Mega Man has a block, of course, but part of it is a relay race of X1, X2, and X3. Mega Man 10 run by usedpizza makes me happy.
Nier: Automata is getting an ending E run. SPOILER ALERT ON THIS ONE, if you intend to play the game, play it now before this, or skip watching it.
Sonic Forces is in somehow, god help us all. On the plus side, Mania Plus is in, and I think it's also a race.
Super Mario RPG doesn't stand out to me aside from maybe being the finale for the event. Calling it now.
Warcraft 3 Orc Campaign is in, I like that. They've been going through this game one segment at a time for the last couple GDQs.
There's some Sega Genesis love up and down the list in general, hooray!

I need to catch one from the start, but I am super confused by "inverted" mode for LttP.
Also, they seem to have allowed for different music files in V30 based on some of what I've caught. Heard Secret of Mana and Mario RPG so far. I would imagine there's an FF6 option based on those two.

There's a thing going on with Nintendo doing music-based copyright claims and destroying peoples' videos. So alternate music tracks are being made a function and I'm glad because FUCK YOU Nintendo.
As for Inverted LTTP Randomizer, it's got some inconsistency. What it's supposed to be is you start in Dark World and need the Moon Pearl to be able to do things in the Light World. The shared dungeon entrances are swapped, I think, and SOME of the shared cave / building entrances are also swapped but not all of them are. Which is to say, when you go to the Eastern Palace in the Light World, you're going to enter the Dark Palace in the Dark World.
The schedule has been announced. Hollow Knight is the opening run, Super Metroid RBO as the last run (with SMO Darker Side right before it).
Friday in general seems like it's gonna be great. Diablo 2 Amazon%, Pokemon Gold glitchless race, FFIV Free Enterprise Race, TAS Block, Sunshine Lockout Bingo, and then FF9 overnight.

The people who put that list together missed a huge opportunity not having Nier be the closer. Honestly, Super Metroid Reverse Boss Order isn't the strongest closer to have. Ouch.
Unless there's a mystery game that will become the new last run.
Anything Super Metroid related drives views and donations. Even if there isn't the usual Kill/Save competition, I'm not surprised they'd end on a fan favourite (yes, even one that some complain as having run its course).
I'm sure Nier is amazing, but I don't know anything about it (really other than Zero Punctuation's video on it) that sells me on it being a hard lock closer over 'has directly raised like a couple million dollars since we started showing it' that is Super Metroid.
I am a bit surprised that they don't have some fairly epic 6+ hour closer, admittedly. I feel like there's usually a Final Fantasy or other RPG that takes up a hefty chunk of time for or near the finale, but maybe it's all subject to change and there'll be a surprise after all.
Edit: hell, there might be logistical reasons for that particular lineup. I'm sure most of the runners/attendees are there for as long as possible, but if some runners have to jet early due to work or other obligations, that probably puts a limit on who gets slotted where. Unless participating requires the runners to guarantee availability for the entire thing (or to at least aim for it, I know there have been travel delays in the past).

i'll take Super Metroid as the closer over yet another 9 hour RPG run that's all about counting steps and RNG manipulation. those tend to be dull at the best of times, and when it starts pushing 4-5am over here it gets really hard maintain interest.
this isn't a comment in Nier specifically, rather some of the games that have been picked to close out the week in previous events.
I never really understand what some racing games are doing on the list. I've seen some stuff like Diddy Kong Racing and some of the more broken shit they can do in Mario Kart 64, by glitching barriers, but looking at the start of the event and seeing Mario Kart DS and just "32 tracks"... is it there as a performance showcase or just filler?

Nintendo franchises tend to do well with fundraising and the runners there usually have a following.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
RPG speed runs seem super weird, since the dialogue is like the whole point
Yeah they are interesting from a technical point in like "Oh I had no idea you could skip all of that" but if you wanted to see the game you kind of don't get to do that. But speed runs in general are bad at seeing the whole game outside of a mario platformer.

I dunno, I've gotten some hot tips in casual play for Mario/Donkey Kong/Metroid/Castlevania/Megaman by watching the 100% speed runs

I'm not in on the drama, but is there some terrible stuff going on with the GDQ staff?

Not that I've heard. Vulajin left because of general stress and wanting to do some self-care. PMG has only disclosed today that she's not interview staff anymore, but it's by her choice and I'm sure in time she'll talk about it when she wants to.

I was thinking FF9 as the finale since they've been doing that lately (putting an hours long run at the end)
FF9 is a co op run per their submissions.

Really hyped for Mario Odyssey Darker Side.
Yeah, they probably are each gonna run 3 hours of it.
i pulled up the first video i could find on youtube and it looks like the estimates are something like:
mission 1: ~5:30
mission 2: ~10:00 (caravan)
mission 3: ~6:00
mission 4: ~6:00
mission 5: ~4:00
mission 6: ~12:00
mission 7: ~8:00
mission 8: ~3:30
